Hi guys been a while. I do pop in time to time and its good to see some of the same crew still posting.I am 36 and would like to hear from some of you not so younger blokes about what keeps you inspired to collect. im not sure if its just life passing me by and im to old or if mr bay has saped any intrest in TFs out of me. Think my G1 collection is the only thing i stop and look at these days.Love to hear from any senior members.

Its normaly value for money that stops me buying anything- I look at stuff and think- well i could buy this or i could put it towards (insert lame purpose here).
Time has been a thing for me too- ive go around 3x50 litre tubs of stuff i havent even opened!
Now that ROTF stuff has slowed down ive slowed down on purchases. The realistic concept vehicles the movie stuff is based on is all but done with now i guess until the next movie is out.
I really enjoy TF's that are based on real vehicles.

Inspiriation is the next "classics/generations" remake, or the next encore type of release. :)

I'm in my mid-30's too and I guess I'm inspired by the thrill of the hunt and seeing how far the engineering has come since G1.
For instance, comparing most of the Classics / Universe / Generation toys to their G1 counterparts - now that's how they should have looked back in the day cause that's how I remember the characters to be.
I'm holding my breath now for the Takara Unicron release :D (somebody tap me on the shoulder if I look like I'm about to pass out)

38 is not senior is it!?!?!?
I like the modern engineering of the toys - compared to some of the "bricks" from the original series.
And playing with them with the kids.

I dont really know what you'd consider senior ... but i have asked myself the same question.
If you look around you everyone has their hobbies; women spend on clothes, shoes and bags with different colours (like repaints) . Others spend on cars etc...
fashion becomes out of date, and cars breakdown and depreciate (TFs however, have "opportunities" there). yet people still buy these things. Now i'm not saying i'm against buying clothes and cars etc... i'm a consumer myself. What i'm saying is that the whole toys thing can be off putting. We normally attribute toys to younger years and play things or have little value.
From what i can see however, people's toys/interest just evolve to a differnt form (no pun intended). Everyone needs to do what makes them smile or get through the day. So... maybe it's no just about the toy, but the feeling you get when you look, hold it or around it.
so unless collecting these figs has become detrimental to your health ... i say keep going (yes i'm biased).
Lastly ... there's no such thing as old .... just older ;)

I'm 35. Some of my reasons:
With Alternity, we have the greatest engineering to date.
With Animated and Disney, we have some of the most divergent lines ever.
With Classics, Universe, Henkei and Generations, we have modern G1 tributes.
With Encore, I can catch up on some of the G1 I'd otherwise be unable to acquire.
I'm also enthusiastic about indoctrinating the next generation.

Im 35 and I collect TFs. I obviously dont play with them. I love the engineering side of it. and pose them in certain ways. Though I grew up with G1 I dont collect them now as they look primitive and boxy these days. Collect mainly the Universe/Cybertron/movie realistic figures.

Been a while TP&E. Im 37, it took me up til this age just to complete ( as per my definition of complete) my G1 collection. Sometimes I do look at my collection and sigh, I do at times get that feeling am I getting too old for this, but then taht is why I have planned out from the beggining of my collecting to HAVE a collection / toy room..... and now I have one it keeps my mojo when Im down, when I feel like nah I had enough , all I need do is lie there in the middle of the room, take deep breathes and sigh, IM HOME :D:D:D every worry just fades away with all my "children" here, heheheh. G1 will always be my fave, so I make it a point now to take at least 1 toy and play , fiddle, transform, pose it. Its a very pleasant surprise to find some features on an old toy you never noticed before when you first played with it. I say ones never gets old for these fellas just more appreciative....:)

Yes it has been a while.I do pop in at times as a guest i think this site is great to see whats going on in the Tf world. I noticed i have even been demoted from a delux member to just a member.I find that in its self as a bit harsh but what can you do. Family kids worken many hours takes its toll and time is hard to come by to play a major roll on ozformers. This site has been good to me though. The G1 collection i have does hold a lot of centamentil value and brings back many fond memories as a kid especialy the tapes like ravage and lazerbeak.I could see my self selling my movie series but never my g1. My son doesnt understand and looks at me weird when i pick up a tf as if to say dad arnt you to old for that?

for me when i look over all my tfs i think to myself i could have left the money in the bank and have a few 1000 by now. its like a smoker with a 20 a day habit. could the money be better spent on other things? i know if i had a gf money would be spent on her, but then she may dump me and it would feel like maybe i wasted all that money on her, per my ex
i say if u get enjoyment from it thats all that matters. do what feels right to u

I've been collecting and playing with Transformers since 1984. They're just damn fun toys to play with and I love the lore. I had people tell me I was too old for Transformers as early as 1985 - I didn't listen to them then, I sure as hell wouldn't pay any attention to such comments now! :D
I have a room in my house that isn't just a collection room, it's my play room. I still do the whole fantasy play thing - story, voices, sound effects etc. :D Just yesterday I was playing around with WFC Optimus Prime, Drift, my PCC Commanders, moofie Scattorshot, Cybertron Scattorshot, Animated Cliffjumper, Animated Blitzwing, Animated Dirge, Animated Thundercracker and Crossovers Battle Droid/Tank. :) You can read about it later on the Toy Story thread. :D
I think I'd stop collecting Transformers if I ever stopped playing with them. Which thankfully I never have. Although I have stopped playing with some other toy lines, which I will be putting up for sale soon.

That's a good point. I always remind the wife that I could be going out to the pub every week and spending money on alcohol but instead I choose to spend my money elsewhere. You'd be surprised how effective this works :D

I have the feeling that I'll be giving up collecting, sooner rather than later. Me and the missus are currently shopping for a new home at the moment and in the past, one of my prerequisites was that I had to have a spare room to display my stuff. Now, I just want a games room for an air hockey/pool table instead. Also, in the past, whenever there was a sighting for a new toy, I'd be doing a mad dash to grab it whereas now I just wait until I'm out shopping to grab it and even if its out of stock, I just go "meh". I also find that I'm now concentrating on collecting toys, not necessarily TFs, that have more of a wow factor, something I can potentially display around my future home that guests can see and comment on (for this reason, I find valkyries awesome, particularly displayed in fighter mode). Plus, I find buying toys for my daughter rather than myself, brings a bigger smile to my face.

G'day Gok. You are a true TF fan that allways tells it how it is.You are a fountain of Tf knowledge, down to earth, happy to help and have a great sence of humor. I think you have helped make this website what it is today. Not sure why your not a mod! Perhaps you have turned it down. Good to hear from you.

I'm 34 soon and I have many toys and an understanding partner, eg massive diecast model car collection, TF, Macross and cars such as a modified FPV GT and Nissan 370Z.
Toys give you motivation to earn money to buy more toys! ;)
So just keep going and enjoy yourself!

Let me ask a question - when is the last time you did anything other than just stopping to look at? Actually picked some of them up, and did what they were designed to do - transform.
I can understand losing interest in the movieverse characters if you're not a fan of that look, but the classics are ideal for a child of G1, as are the encore reissues to complete your collection.
Or reading a transformer comic or graphic novel, or watching the cartoon. Or perhaps playing the new War For Cybertron game? Either you'll find it cool, and it'll refresh your interest, or you'll realise you're over it, and move on.

exactly, im 31, have a step son and a 6 month old baby, and a very understanding partner, and sometimes when people find out i collect transformers, i might get the odd rolled eyes or a 'hah?' from the non believers, but thats the scenario i put forward, some people collect bottles, some collect buttons, i collect transformers.:)

I let my daughter play with my PlaySkool Transformers like Mototron, Charlie Chopper, Beastbot, Policeman Pete etc. I let her play with My First Transformer Jet for a while, then she started scratching one of the stickers, so I took that off her! :p
I occasionally let her handle other Transformers under supervision. She started throwing Drift around. :p

Now, that's a smart girl.
The way I foresee it, I will be stopping TF collecting in 3 to 4 years. There're a few reasons of course. One is that I would have acquired all the G1 toys that I want (including Headmasters, Masterforce and Victory, I've less than 20 figures to go; I think I might even be finished before this year is over). Second, I have very little interest in the post G1 releases and that includes Classics/Henkei/Generations, the plastic quality is just crap and when I hold one, I want to throw it away in the thrash. As a result, I have also sold 90% of all the Classics and Henkei I own.
So, I will stop because there will be nothing that I want left to buy. By stopping in "3 or 4 years", I mean that I will very likely even have sold off all my G1 collection by then after I've had a chance to enjoy them in their entirety for a few years and maybe even have gone to Botcon 'secure' in the feeling that there is nothing I want to buy.
i think I'm getting burned out mentally because I'm too obsessive when collecting.
BUT, I will remain a Transformer fan for life.

Yeah but that's entirely different from actually quitting Transformers. If anything, it's stopping because you're collection is complete.

From the real old fart on this board(at least I think I am lol) you are never to old to be a TF collector. My enthusiasm did wain for about 8-12 months at one stage but I just reduced my interaction and buying, then all of a sudden BAM! I was getting all excited about TF's again and it was full steam ahead;):D

im 28 in a month and actually only started collecting last year after i turned 27. i really liked the masterpiece and henkei/classics line which is what i collect. i dont have the time and money for g1 so avoiding it as much as possible but the new g1 seacons has got me really interested.
the new war for cybertron toys are good too, so i will be collecting them as anyone here who has played against me online (ps3) will know how nuts i am in the game.
