Just a note in advance, 19 days to go.

This is the big one that has layby until christmas. My local is opening a 8am as well, earlier than usual, so you might want to check your stores too to avoid long queues.

liegeprime

Hmmm i know what you mean about long queues.... it snakes all around the sides of the store and its reaally reaaally long prolly longer due to all the prams of the mothers in line.:D

MV75
12th June 2010, 08:31 AM
And the trolly loads of stuff they have.

The trick is knowing what you want and getting it, then go straight to the counter. All the while everyone else is still milling about loading carts.

If the last Toy Sale and any major sale Big W does, head in there the night before and scan prices. From my experience the prices kick in late arvo on the eve of sales. I had the entire range to pick and choose for myself on a wednesday evening in my local Big W.

My local Big Wubbleyoo does a 24 hour hold, so it's worth checking with them. So you can go in Wednesday arvo, pick ur gear care free, 24-hour hold them, head to the lay-by counter at 8am Thursday, boom! =o)

And ty for the heeads-up =o)

If your lay-by counter is that free by 8am on the Thursday, you are very lucky.

If your lay-by counter is that free by 8am on the Thursday, you are very lucky.

I'm only saying 8am as an assumption that your stuff is already set aside, so you can instantly lay-by, where almost every other customer with lay-by i mind will spend at least 10-20 minutes getting their stuff together before they start queuing the lay-by counter. The least hassle method though would be to do the 24 hour hold at say 5pm Wednesday, then you have until 5pm Thursday to head in and put them on lay-by. But like mknell said, this is only really for people who want to lay-by to xmas.

They've moved Transformers from the island in front of the toy section to the action figure aisle, but from my observation, the overall total space for Transformers has increased (I've always found Big W's "little shelving island for promoted products" strategy to be pretty poor in terms of available space for products.)

I hope they'll have sale-specific items this year (like how Kmart had the Endor AT-AT for $50 back in 2008).

According to the staff member the prices are changing at staggered times, some items (such as the older TF stock) changed over at 2pm, but items like the lego sets and bigger items will change while stores are closed about 8-9pm tonight in time for when the store opens again at midnight.

Had heaps of the HFTD Deluxes at $18.66, they are located at the shelf near the cosmetics! A few walks around the store and Icy and I still could'nt find it, we had to ask the store person!

Also had TF2 Movie Shadow Megatron and Prime at $67 - with or without the free deluxe figure. Also had Leader Starscream but not on sale at $88. The FAB Skids and Mudflap is situated all the way the other side where the dog food is.

Also has the various scouts for $8.76, no FAB at $12.76 left except Blackout.

No generations deluxes nor were there any voyagers except Payload and Ratchet (Yellow box) which were still scanning up as $48..

Was at the midnight toy sale looking for Generations. The prices scanned at 24.66 and the guy from toys had to come out. (quoting myself, as it is easier to refer to)

Christalcase and I tried to get the BigW at Garden City to correct the price on a Generations toy, but wouldn't - they noted the different coloured packaging and product code (darn observant staff members).

If you have a TRU handy, use the BigW catalogue to get something like Generations price-matched, as they will only see the 'Deluxe' label on the BigW catalogue (and show them where it says it on the side of the Generations toy bubble). I've found TRU are the easiest to price-match, possibly because they make so much money on their regular prices, they aren't too fussed about the occasional loss of profit on a price-matched item.

Picked up my DRIFT today from Big W after having it unofficially on lay buy (which I'm glad I did because they had none left).

It scanned at $24.66 but I showed them the catalogue and they changed the price on the spot, was not a struggle at all, considering it's plain as day in the catalogue that the deluxe figures ARE $18.66 and it says right there on the toy that it's a deluxe.

Looking at the catalog and it says NEW TRANSFORMERS DELUXE VEHICLES# (Styles may vary by store)

I would tell them that unless they correct the catalog then the advertisement is misleading. The Generations Line is -Transformers -New and -A varied style.

finally got drift, thanks skywarp. TRU were all too happy to price-match and the girls working there today were not bad looking either :D

Ah well. I could have bought at least 2 bludgeons today. Noone wanted one though it seems. :)

I'd have to say though that the tf aisle was totally empty of people this morning, they were all in the lego or "girls stuff". :)

K mart on the other hand, a few people in the tfs, but most again, elsewhere. HA toys just sat there. I won't mention devastator or the other big toys. :) Suffice to say, they won't run out.

Looking at the catalog and it says NEW TRANSFORMERS DELUXE VEHICLES# (Styles may vary by store)

I would tell them that unless they correct the catalog then the advertisement is misleading. The Generations Line is -Transformers -New and -A varied style.

Yeah, I tried both of those reasons (pointing out 'Deluxe' and 'styles may vary'), but one of the managers was called over and refused to budge. She seemed to be well educated on the different Transformers products and their different product codes, and was determined that the sale was intentionally only relating to the Autobot Alliance Deluxes.

You win some, you lose some... :(

That's a bummer to hear Griffin. It's very rare when a manager is so clued in on a particular brand.

Maybe go in on the weekend when there's a different manager on shift?

i'd say she was just mean in general. you know how in catalogs they have those disclaimers saying 'does not include *item* in photo' if she insists Generations doesnt fit the criteria it should say so in the catalog instead of being vague and open to interpretation - luckily she doesnt work in america or she would be fired for all the complaints and temptation to sue.

But how is what s in the catalogue the managers fault? she didn't make the catalogue. she got sent an email from head office saying this is whats on sale. put it out. if you have an issue with a catalogue being misleading then contact the stores head office.

i never said its her fault - i said its the catalog advertising vaguely. all i said about the manager was she was being mean to griffin - being picky about what exactly is discounted.

I'm sorry but I don't see what the problem is. The catalogue clearly indicates that deluxe figures are $18.66. It does not exclude any particular range of deluxe figures. It simply states that they may vary store to store. To get picky however, the catalogue does state "deluxe vehicles" which could be interpreted as just vehicles only, which is pretty stupid really.

The pricing on the computer system is not matching that of the catalogue. Most likely because the catalogue is wrong, so either they will fix this by selling all deluxe figures at the advertised price or they will issue a notice regarding it.

My experience, find a check out chick who's been working all day and is ready to go home/doesn't give a shit. Chances are they will put the price through at the catalogue price after showing them.

Big W Kuraby (QLD) took the price of deluxe generations down to $18.66 after pointing out the catalogue issue no problem.

However they wouldn't do the same to the $48 HTFD Voyagers, even though the lady at the self serve registers was a bit confused herself by the pricing differerence.

*sigh* I guess with the price matching stuff, it all boils down to a bit of luck and whether or not the sales person is on a good mood that day. But I do agree that since the catalogue does say "Deluxes styles may vary", it certainly does apply to all types of deluxes.

In any case, for any melbournians still looking for Voyagers or WFC Generations to price match, Big W South Yarra as at 10pm last night still had:

Voyagers
- 2 Recon Ironhide, 2 Blue Primes, 1 Mindwipe, 2 Blundgeons $24.88
- WFC Generation deluxes 2 Bumbees, 2 Primes, 1 Drift scanned @ $24.88

They also had the deluxes wave of Ratchet, Dead End, Mud flap, bumblebee etc - which I didn't scan cause I was in a rush.

We have no Big Ws in Northwest Tassie, and with my injured mother housebound I can't make the trip to Hobart to try there - if any of you lovely, wonderful, generous, good-looking:D Melbournites or Sydneysiders were able to nab me a Recon Ironhide at the sale price and send it over I'd be most grateful.:)
I posted this in the Toy Scout section too, but nothing like casting a broad net.

Found a Generations Drift this morning and just for the hell of it went up and got its price corrected down to $18.66.

And geez, those Camshaft/Prime packs aren;t moving anywhere.

Yeah, saw heaps of them at a BigW up here, and didn't see any 'dents' in the wall (no boxes taken to be bought). I was surprised that it is just Optimus too, as Megatron was released as well with Camshaft, but we only seem to have the Autobot leader here.
I guess kids and parents have had enough of the Movie line, and the 'converted' (fans) would already have a version of Optimus by now (or know about the better Kmart 2-pack with Jetfire and spiffy gun/paintjob).
BigW looks to have got a really good deal on them, but will probably still have to discount them to get rid of them.

Has anyone sighted Leader class Megatron? I can't find him anywhere!

My local Big W restocked most of the toys today and noticed that they have the Generations deluxes again. 2-3 cases worth half in the toy area and the other half in the temporary sales section. Didn't scan for prices though.

Also saw they restocked with PCC 2 packs.

Same here. They typically restock Thursdays. But no Generations too. Just more deluxes, PCCs and scouts.
