This guy has been near completion for weeks now... but here's a quick two snaps from today as I was giving him the last few touches...

Y'reckon I should give him red eyes? It took enough effort painting what's already there so that he still has lightpiping - painting the eyes red now would just kill that :(

What do ya'll think?

This time he was painted with Lacquers for the blue ( Tamiya spraycan), and most of the detail was done with enamels. :)

Don't paint the eyes. More specifically don't paint the eyes red.

You are very good at painting with the glossy paints. This and your Bludgeon are sweet!

Bet if they ever did a Pipes he would be allspark blue all over! :p

Colours look superb lcz, and the robot mode pose is fantastic.

Thanks Deonasis! I'm working very hard to get to gamblor916's level of glossy paints :) And thanks for the kind comments on Bludgeon too! :D

I just couldn't not do this - that said, I don't think I've seen this done elsewhere yet either :O An original custom by me for once :D

Thanks a lot iamtrunks!
And that's a very scary thought - allspark bluey pipes -_-; I'm sure they wouldnt mess his colours up thaaaat bad if they did him :)

Also, as a big thanks for the comments I thought I would also include images of what he looked like before being painted! Here it is:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/LJ/SP9_08.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/LJ/SP9_07.jpg

Yep - he's actually got Stockade's head on him :) Did anyone else pick it? :D He also required a bit of shaving inside the cavity where the head hides in to make it fit right. But otherwise, he's unchanged - just painted heaps :)

He was originally painted Tamiya Blue acrylics - but it just kept failing to cure properly and I kept touching it before curing so it caused lots of smudging... I ended up sanding like hell and repainting him with tamiya Mica Blue spray lacquer :)

Here's him drying:

I'm very happy with him now! :) Huzzah!!

That is indeed very cool. I wish Hasbro made a repaint but it wouldn't be anywhere as good as yours.

I think that 'visor' red eyes are needed to complete the tribute. Maybe try to stain the clear plastic red so that it maintains transparency?

That is awesome lcz128

In my humble opinion, I say don't paint the eyes... not red anyway; all Autobots have blue eyes (speaking from a strictly G1 POV) ;)

aye - and in the cartoon he had red eyes too - and the toy! if anything only the main picture on the tfwiki (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Pipes) page says otherwise... but like I said - I haven't done it cause of the light piping... :(

Can you remove the light piping from the head? It is possible on several other figures.

I have an idea on changing the eye color of the light pipe without having to paint or permanently change anything but I need to know if that is possible.

Nope. Not without splitting the head completely, from the GLUE that holds it together. So unfortunarely no easy way to get to it. What was your idea? (my guess is you don't own the toy?)

I don't own the toy, that is why I asked if it was possible.

The idea only would have worked only if it was possible to dissemble the head and remove the light pipe.

The idea was basically to stick a cut of red clear 'wrap' sheet on the visor and place it back into the head. That would have given the illusion of red eyes and retained the lightpipe. It is possible to do that with almost any toy that allows access to the light pipe.

Um... even if 5FDP was talking about the cartoon, that Pipes doesn't have blue eyes either. And it would also mean that these (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/a/a7/Fightorflee_Cyclonus_Scourge_Superion.jpg) guys (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/8/8d/FFOD5_Metroplex_Trypticon.JPG) aren't Autobots. Which is bad news for the good guys.

And this custom is awesome - looks much better than the original toy. Can the eyes/lightpiping just be coloured in with something like a red permanent marker?

Indeed. There are plenty of Autobots who don't have blue eyes and Decepticons who don't have red eyes in the G1 cartoon - including Pipes (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/b/bb/Pipes_with_widget.jpg). :)

Yeah but Misfire had red eyes in the cartoon (http://www.transformersnetwork.com/database/graphic/misfire.jpg), so I can understand why some stickler for show-likeness would want to paint the eyes in red. I don't agree with it at all, but I can understand it. Same with my original G1 Trailbreaker - the original owner painted the eye blue too. Freakin' annoying. Worse still, the reissue has blue eyes too.:mad: I should 'restore' my original Trailbreaker's eyes to red.

The stupid thing was that I got my SkyDasher from the same guy, and he'd also painted in his eyes in blue, despite the fact that NONE of the Powerdashers appeared in the cartoon -- so I see no reason why he did that!
