View Full Version : Would you buy a reissue Fortress Maximus?

If TakaraTOMY were to reissue Fortress Maximus, I estimate the retail price to be at about 16896JPY ($214).
This is based on:
G1 Metroflex sold in Japan for 4980JPY ($63) and Encore Metroflex retailed for 7350JPY ($93) -- and increase of about 32%. G1 Fortress Maximus sold in Japan for 12800JPY ($162) and 32% of that is 4096JPY ($52) -- so at a similar rate I estimate that an Encore Fortress Maximus would sell for 16896JPY ($214).
Even with the cost of postage (which would make it about $300) I think it's totally worth it for a complete and legit Fortress Maximus (even moreso if it comes with the Master Sword). I'd much rather pay this than for a knockoff.
I've just messaged a US contact of mine who has contacts with Hasbro USA to see what they think about reissuing Fortress Maximus, and I'm going to call TakaraTOMY myself during the upcoming school holidays in early July and have a talk to them about the idea. In the meantime I'm seeing how much interest people have in the possibility of giving us a legit Fortress Maximus reissue.
Feel free to repeat this poll on other TF boards -- the more interest we can generate the better. :)

Hasbro US can't reissue it for safety reasons as I understand. I read somewhere recently that either it wouldn't survive the modern drop test or is capable of seriously injuring an infant if it tips over on them.

I'd buy one for a cheaper alternative to complete my one. I can't seem to afford the guns and little things that I am missing. Got Spike though :p

Price would be a determining factor. If it was around 300 bucks (including shipping), I would prob have to pass. It's not worth that much too me.

This is very true.

I chose undecided as opposed to no for the reason most likely not, but maybe if it was Grand maximus.
I'd rather see scorponok, trypticon and other combiner 86/87 sets first. And definitely Piranacon.

gah yeah, I just remembered about the Drop Test shortly after posting this. Perhaps TakaraTOMY is our only hope?

Sharky is right. (gah, but which parent with a good amount of reasonable foreseeability would let their kid play with a toy the size of Fort Max unsupervised?)
That's the reason why it's very unlikely that Takara will reissue Fort Max. I think the Japanese market is probably too small to justify releasing it since it can't be exported to the US which I suppose is the place where demand is going to be highest in terms of numbers. I think though that a toy the size of Fort Max is still acceptable in many Asian countries where there is also a TF following
With that being said, and on the assumption that:
(i) the cost of getting one is around $300;
(ii) it comes with all its original US release parts (no Master Sword is okay); and
(iii) its released in a US style G1 box or Jap style G1 box like most Encores are,
I'd get 4-5 of these.
I'll transform them into city mode put them in a big room with the 4 Metroplexs, 3 Omega Supremes, 2 Gadeps, 3 Scorponoks and 2 Trypticons, which I have for this specific purpose, and call it transformer city. This is something I have been planning for years, which is why I have that many of the above, and also 4 Fort Max molds and counting, more Fort Maxes would be sweet because I think it has the best colour scheme among all the releases. :D

For myself personally I say no, but for the public in general who may have difficulties obtaining the original I say maybe. I have been able to justify buying an incomplete Fort Max recently on the grounds that the price was reasonable and it is now a fixer-upper-type project for me. Not everyone is willing to do this and this is where a reissue would come in handy.

An Encore reissue would open up the possibility of an Ehobby Grand Max and I would most certainly go for that.

I'd buy a reissue Max, I'll never pay the going rate for vintage so its my only hope

Personally I would say no as it's too big, too expensive and postage would be killer.

Yeah I can't justify another Max for the same reason - However a Grand Max would change that totally!

For $300 with shipping? Would definitely want to, but it would depend on my financial situation at the time. I don't have as much disposable income I as used to and haven't bought Transformers regularly since MP Grimlock. Last purchase was Unicron, and I really didn't want to, but I knew I had to jump on the boat before it left. My wallet cried out in pain that day.
I would certainly be in full support of a reissue however.

I would not hesitate in buying a reissue Fort Max and if it came about a Grand Maximus. I am sort of lucky as I will be getting a Takara Fort Max soon but it is missing some minor stuff which is some of the most expensive items but yeah if they reissued this and the other bases I would get all of them.

I thought the limited release (only Takara japan) argument would mean I'd *NEVER* see Metroplex, let alone Omega Supreme and Skylynx.
There's no way that I'd let mere price stop me getting Fortress Maximus. With the shipping, I'd import a bunch and then onsell them - Maximus is way too cool for G1 fans to pass up, and look at how much a badly colored Korean reissue sells for. With all those accessories included, I'd kill for one to display, and one to keep MISB.
But I'd say the same thing would apply to Trypticon as well.

What happened to Trypticon anyway? They haven't reissue him at all and I assume they still have the mold since they retooled it for Beast Wars II.

+1 , I would buy it for I believe it will be more cheaper than the original ones. Plus it'll plummet the prices of them original I bet.

If they ever did reissue Fort Max I reckon Grand Max should be done as an e-Hobby exclusive.

If they ever did that.....I would buy at least two each of the buggers (one MISB and the other I would open). And I think at least another 2 westformers would do the same thing.

I'd definitely get a Fort Max - I can then take out my Brave Max out for proper play-n-display :)

Brave Maximus is really the best looking version of the Maximus mould IMO. Fortress Maximus is really quite dull. But he's G1 and I grew up with Fortress Maximus, and I just love the character... so my Fort Max gets played with lots too. :D Toywise I prefer Brave Max, but characterwise I prefer "Forky Maxiface" (as Grimlock calls him :p)

You are right about the colour schemes. I like Brave Max's lit up 'night' mode windows on his city mode stickers.
