View Full Version : BotCon Hasbro toy display

The Display seems to be a lot smaller this year, with only a couple future waves being shown, instead of 6 odd months like normal.

PowerCore Combiners (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tfw2005-botcon-2010-coverage--power-core-combiners-170050/)- only first 2 waves.

Hunt for the Decepticons (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tfw2005-botcon-2010-coverage-generations-and-hunt-for-the-decepticons-figures-170049/)- looks like some 3rd wave, but mostly 2nd wave on each size class.

Generations (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tfw2005-botcon-2010-coverage-generations-and-hunt-for-the-decepticons-figures-170049/) - up to wave 4, but that only equates to 10 figures.

RPMs (now Speed Stars) (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tfw2005-botcon-2010-coverage-rpms-and-speed-stars-170046/) - seem to be the biggest display there, and still at the same prices, so won't be around for much longer...

Assorted pics (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tfw2005-botcon-2010-coverage--toys-toys-and-more-toys-170043/).

Store exclusives, including Animated Rodimus and Ironhide (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tfw2005-botcon-2010-coverage-animated-rodimus-minor-and-ironhide-170047/), SDCC Blaster reissue and Mighty Muggs Prowl, Seacons (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tfw2005-botcon-2010-coverage-g1-colored-seacons-box-set-170045/).

Apart from some exclusives, there isn't much on display that isn't already known or revealed by Hasbro. Ignoring the Speed Stars, I don't think there are any new moulds on display this year.

I will be taking my own pics and posting them up in the next week, but unless Hasbro adds a few new items into the display case after their panel tomorrow (like they sometimes do each year), my coverage won't be all that interesting either.

Not sold on the PCC Wave 2 at the moment. Need to study pictures closely.

More Generations is indead awesome. Can't wait for these to be released, in fact they can't get here fast enough at all.

HFTD has some nice new toys and some good redecos. Shall be interesting how long this keeps up.

Aside from the reissue Seacons (which I'm pretty won't make it to Tassie with our lack of Toys R Us), Icepick and maybe Axor I'm pretty underwhelmed...Good for my budget I guess.

Oh it's just me fantasising. There was news a year ago of a new Rhinox but that was the end of it. I'm holding on to hope but it's a fools dream.

Mmmm, pcc seems to be getting worse.

Rpms definilty worse. Bumblebee looks very lazy and horrid. At least a $2 hotwheel would have a painted or even chromed grill. Those things with the big wheels, what? But the stealth force is sorta growing on me for one reason, reminds me of mask. They look like mask rip offs. You can't look at them without the mask theme song starting to play.....

That legends green devastator looks horrid compared to the Japanese version. I'm aware that the physical toy in the box looks unpainted but even the photos look shit.

Oh yea, forgot that one, and for a good reason. It's all frigging green. Very lazy repaint there.

As for the rest

1. What's the deal with that brightly coloured Brawl? Is that some kind of homage that I've missed or was it just a bad day at the office for the designers?

2. As much as I've had no desire to get the mold yet that blue Fallen looks really nice.

3. That Soundwave is looking a better proposition every time I see it.

4. Darkmount. Meh. Whats the big deal? It looks like Universe Galvatron all over again - except that mold was boosted by having a realistic (cannon aside) alt mode that hid all the purple and snapped together well. As opposed to this bright blue gappy monstrosity.

5. HA Jazz - DEAR GOD YES.

6. HFTD - All the new mold stuff looks amazing. Stop releasing Bumblebees and Ravages for crying out loud. (Rescue) Ratchet actually looks really really nice - the paint job is much better than the original on that mold (too much green, not enough detail).

7. Is Animated Hot Rod setting some kind of record for consecutive appearances at Botcon of a completely finished and painted toy that is still unreleased?

8. Seacons - Why has everyone been really excited about these for about half a decade now? I don't get it.

9. New packaging - paper twine and slimline boxes for voyagers - I like it a lot.

And finally

10. The lack of anything new (except the repaints of the Fallen and Ratchet) - getting me down a bit. We've known about everything on display here (hell most of us now own everything on display here) for a while. I'm hoping that the Hasbro presentation has the same wow factor that last years one did (with all the new RotF molds being unveiled - Dirge, Ratchet, Scattorshot etc etc).

MV75
26th June 2010, 07:49 PM
4. I don't get the hype around screaming miner joe either. Feet look spastic.

8. If you don't get it, don't worry, you never will. Not totally a bad thing, if you love them, you'd get it, you don't get it, so nothing will get you to get it. Got it? ;)

Dirge is the winner in the generations line. Now all we need is thundercracker.

I'd say the latter. :)

4. Darkmount. Meh. Whats the big deal?
It's a massive deal for those of us who grew up with G1.

6. HFTD - All the new mold stuff looks amazing. Stop releasing Bumblebees and Ravages for crying out loud.
Yeah, they're not gonna stop releasing Bumblebees any time soon. Just cast your mind back to pre-2007 _before_ people gave a crap about Bumblebee! :p

8. Seacons - Why has everyone been really excited about these for about half a decade now? I don't get it.
Because we all know that HasTak have the moulds (since they used it for Beast Wars (II)'s God Neptune in 1998)... then in 2008 they reissued Piranacon in non-G1 colours (IMO they're just awful - but like them or not, they're not G1 colours), and on top of that the reissue was a limited Club exclusive toy (which are prohibitively expensive for anyone outside North America). And in the last couple of years both Hasbro and TakaraTOMY keep reissuing G1 toys that have _already_ been reissued before (do we really need more Optimus Prime reissues?!?) and yet don't reissue stuff that we know they probably still have the moulds for like Piranacon.

So the news of a proper Piranacon reissue is exciting news for G1 fans.

It's exciting news for me because I've had all the Seacons for ages, but I've never had the gestalt parts for Piranacon (head, fists, feet etc.) - so I've never been able to form Piranacon. I can understand that G1 reissues are probably meaningless to people who didn't grow up with G1, but for those of us who did it's quite exciting. :)

I'm really disappointed with Dirge's wing deco :(
After keeping it simple for Thrust I didn't expect them to make Dirge's look like that...

Beyond that I'm looking forward to new toys announcements - like how last year had all those awesome announcements like bludgeon and skystalker/mindwipe etc...

Blurr - Guns instead of swords. Awesome. But I'm not digging that car mold still.

Tomahawk - "snapping fingers" What? Really? *oh SNAP* "Oh yous just a piece of trash girlfriend *snap snap*. :p

Oh yea, tfw also have this:

Loving the Generations figures, Dirge looks pretty good. Buying the others. Pirahnacon looks great, and will be buying him for a cheaper alternative to complete my G1 figure. Plus the sword is shiny :D

Blurr!! - impressed with his head sculpt
Dirge!! - feeling really good that I passed on the henkei version, this one looks just like he should and not a repaint of Ramjet

I'm also loving the P-38 lightning (modified by hasbro of course :p) - Highbrow???

Great news as well for the extra (final?) 300 P/CPs!

Yea, worth it just for the guns. Anyone know if drift is fist hole compatible with anyone else? I assume they'll use the same hands.

EG: Can cybertron blurr hold drifts swords?

I assume you're asking if Drift uses the universal 5mm post size (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/5mm_post). Smolder can hold Drift's knives so presumably Drift should be able to hold Chopster. And assuming that Chopster's handle is a 5mm post then both Smolder and Drift should be able to wield any other weapon with the 5mm post.

Highbrow looks really cool, so do the Seacons. I'm doubting that the latter will be released here-IIRC the Insecticons and Perceptor reissues last year didn't make it here, but it may be for the best considering that importing the Seacons may be cheaper than retail prices.

The possibility of a Dinobot PCC team being revealed later has driven all other thoughts of new toys from my brain. DO WANT.

Will get Blurr, waiting to see what they do for repaints for Terradive, Tomahawk, and Highbrow.
Also, apparently Hubcap is getting a Big Daddy repaint.

i think that highbrow is cool looking, but will have to see more pics or maybe a video. The wing and extended engine cowlings look a little flimsy when assembled maybe. but regardless the toy still has an overall solid appearance and it is awesome to have a WWII style prop plane in the line now.

Reminds me of an arcade SHMUP (1942) game style plane. :)

I am impressed with the look of Blurr.

The new flyers look cool.

Terradive looks more like a classics figure than a generations one, and I hope a Strafe repaint (or an Aerialbot) might come later.

As a lover of all propeller driven aircraft, Highbrow looks frigin' awesome!.

In bot mode Blurr looks really good, which is actually surprising, though I don't think the alt mode really suits Blurr but something is better than nothing.

I must say that I'm a bit annoyed with those photos though, it seems the photographer is far more interested in Blurr's alt mode than his bot mode. Would it of killed them to get some decent shots of his bot mode from the front?.

Some of those newly shown movie toys look awesome.
Part of me thinks that I need to change my display * the one that I still need to sort out * to be Movie toys and Movie tie in toys ... too many to just be Movie toys.
