The gold finish looks nice, but not nice enough to compel me to get another Predaking. The box looks nice too. :)

I hope this is not purely a TakaraTomy release....:rolleyes:
Takara reissued Predaking back in 2004 - this will be Takara(TOMY)'s second reissue of Predaking. In spite of this, to date Hasbro have never reissued Predaking. They also haven't reissued any of the other larger and more expensive reissues either (e.g. Metroplex, Omega Supreme, Bruticus etc.)... so I wouldn't wait for Hasbro.

Someone on TFW altered the brightness so you can see a bit clearer. I think that looks like a flap edge running down the centre?

I think it might just be the lighting for the extra gold.

Well back in the day, they were $20 a toy, that's 100$ for a plastic predaking. This one should be the same as the other reissue, diecast, so an extra ~$16 each toy sounds good enough.

I agree, $180 is a pretty good price considering what the original and the first reissue go for.

I'll be picking this up, I like what tt are doing with this promotion and cant wait to see whats next

I think the D-76 reissue of Predaking went for 14,250Y whereas this one is 15,750Y; perhaps that's the cost of metallic paints :D

I'm probably the only TF fan in the world that doesn't really like Predaking that much, always seemed to plasticy and weirdly proportioned to me, specially after the G1 Diaclone era.

However that gold really jazz's it up, I might have to get him now, though I still think he is an odd looking gestalt even if he is big.

Depends on:
1: If this reissue will be die-cast metal like the previous one (cos most original G1 Predacons are plastic.. die-cast G1s are hard to find)
2: If this reissue will be die-cast or plastic. I suspect the former.

Having said that... Headstrong is better in plastic. The die-cast makes him back heavy and difficult to stand in robot mode. Oh yeah, die-cast Predaking is heavy -- so be prepared to pay for it in shipping. Group orders definitely recommended for this big boy. :)

I reckon it will be about $300 including shipping which is going to be a deal-breaker for me. A group order will definitely soften the blow, but still... it's a damn expensive purchase.

I am not sure this guy is Die Cast metal. Metal Predakings have a tendency to lean when the arms are pointing forward like in the pic due to the weight of the metal. This Predaking looks pretty straight.

yes, but the trend so far for 2010 releases (Unicron, Cyb Primus, Seacons and now Predaking) have shown improvement.

so im curious to know if they will continue the trend and make sixshot even more awesome than the previous versions.. (dare i say it, even better then drift :eek:)

BBTS put the price up it seems from its first listing. It was $180.
$200 isn't that bad based on the exchange rate of the yen price. And it does cost $$ to ship them across to the USA.

This means Amiami or Toy Wholesaler is likely to be most people in Australia's best bet - As you can see Robocris had him (preorder sold out now) for 12,600Y (vs 15,750Y retail).

One thing I hope will not be an issue is GPS, because he sure does have alot of gold on him.

I think GPS is now a thing of the past so people buying this toy or any other modern Gold toy should be ok. I think only the plastic with gold that 'spirals' on the surface are the ones one should worry about.

HLJ is about 160-odd usd before shipping, and I don't see this as a light parcel.

Wow, really?

It was always cheaper for me to get encores from hlj because robot kingdom charged anywhere from 16-32usd to post stuff to me when hlj was doing it for between 800 and 1500 yen. :) Plus I couldn't fault their packaging, really top quality. I havn't had anything yet sent directly from RK, but I'll find out when I get my seacons. :)

Oh yea, as been discussed about the gps thing, that would have been from too much of the colour material being added to the mix.

Japan Post is expensive with smaller packages. The best way to get cheaper postage from Japan is to order in bulk cos they charge less with bigger and heavier packages. :)

It's not HLJ's fault that former-PM Koizumi Junichirou privatised Japan Post during his administration. (-_-) Postage from Japan was a lot cheaper (albeit slower) before privatisation.

There are several personal factors involved but it all basically just boils down to money / priorities. I don't want to get to a point where I've over-spent and have to part with my collection. I'm in a good place right now with everything I want. I'm sure I'll be tempted by some of your sale items though :p

I almost bought the previous Predaking re-issue a few years ago but by the time I decided to buy one it had sold out on-line. I believe they've just used the DVD Masterpiece Optimus Prime stand as a prototype; I'm assuming that it will be retooled for Predaking. Those tech spec cards also look the same as the ones from the 2004 reissue - so it wouldn't surprise me if they're just stand ins until they finalise what the 2010 reissue tech specs will look like, possibly with the "2010" logo on it. Or maybe they will look the same, who knows.

No. I'm not at all thrilled by this reissue and prefer the look of the original yellow. But I'm weird that way - if they'd entirely changed Predaking's colours to fluorescent green, cyan and magenta then I'd be all over it. Merely turn the yellow gold and I'm all... meh.

Just a couple pages ago guys! The stand just happens to be in Predaking's vicinity - it doesn't come with him
It's intended for use with Rodimus Prime so the Autobot symbol makes sense.

I feel the same as Paulbot. While this reissue doesn't thrill me, I wouldn't say no to it if I didn't already have Predaking. But given a choice, I do prefer the original colours. These new colours aren't bad though, but I prefer the original colours.

I don't know if it's my imagination, but i could have sworn virtually everyone was talking like they'd buy this reissue when the rumours were rampant, but now it seems like only a few are really interested.

I've been hiding in the shadows but this is easily my most anticipated release this year. Predaking has always been a magnificent specimen but in gold it takes him to the next level imo. He just looks so goddamn majestic. :cool:

The gold Predaking compared to the regular yellow Predaking, is like the JP Animated shiny toys compared to the regular anime coloured Hasbro Animated - people prefer both for different reasons. I like the JP Animated toys because they are pretty, and like the Hasbro ones because they are cartoon accurate. The same goes for the Predacons for me, as the combined mode deserves to look regal.

Just an FYI guys - RK have expectantly jacked up their price before the 27th of November release date to US$164.50. I would suggest pre-ordering soon to secure it at this price as TakTom Unicron had three price increases before his eventual release.

their prices are much better than hlj's. typically selling things 20% off rrp.

I haven't heard of amiami before - certainly not in 2004 when I bought my Predaking reissue from HLJ for 14000JPY. I'm not interested in getting another Predaking reissue, but I'll consider amiami next time I think of getting a Japanese TF. :)

I actually would have prefered the new one to be plastic, to have the variation from the last reissue... and to save on shipping costs. But for those yet to have Predaking, the (heavy) metal version and shiny colours will make this one worth getting.
Just be aware that Tantrum (or Headstrong) has trouble standing up in robot mode, from all the weight on its back.

While I can see it being an issue for collectors importing this (long term), it also works in the favour of anyone who pre-ordered it as postage is already paid for. It will be interesting to see if online stores jack up the postage now that we know he's made of die cast...

Indeed, I have just pre-ordered this beauty via AmiAmi, thanks to the advice of Kaiden, at a great price - though I've yet to pay postage. :o

Could anyone bring to light how much the original Die-Cast G1 Predaking weighs?

I too am sharing your joy 5FDP, as I too have yearned for this team for years but could never afford the insane reissue and secondary market prices! :eek:
The Box art looks sweet, to point out a statement from a poster on TFW2005 - It's retro, yet modern! ;)
Add to the fact that this reissue is also going to be the Die-Cast variant and an extremely beautiful new paint job - I am very, very glad I waited for these Ancient Predacons! :D:D:D

Strange as it may sound, only the vintage Takara release of the Predacons were all plastic. The US vintage, and early 2000s reissue had die cast parts.

It was confirmed by Automaton Toys on Cybertron.CA and reported on TFW also.

Going back to my previous post (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=203969&postcount=147), I should have added 'as well' in reference to the die cast and 2004 version. I think I may have caused some confusion there :o

My only complaint about the die-cast Predacons is that Headstrong becomes way too back heavy in robot mode and is tricky to stand. The 2004 reissue had a slight mould variation in Predaking's head... I'm curious to know if this variation still exists in the 2010 version or if they've retooled it to be more G1 toy-accurate.

I've not long finished reading TFWiki's article on the set but don't remember that being mentioned.
No, TFwiki doesn't mention it - it's like a really minor mould difference somewhere on the head... I think around the antennae? It's been 6 years since I compared the reissue with the original and the difference is really minor, so my memory of it isn't super sharp. Does anyone here have both the original and reissue Predaking? If so, would they be able to post comparative close-up photos of the heads?

All the G1 Predacons I saw and played with as a child were plastic. Never saw any metal Predacons in the 1980s. I'm sure they existed, but they must've been pretty rare. Much like the metal-chested Hot Spot... never saw one of those as a kid either. I had metal-toed Hot Rod and a friend of mine had metal-wheeled Kup as a kid (he's since given me that Kup for free :D) - but every other Hot Rod and Kup I saw as a kid were the plastic versions. So it seems that a lot of the metal variants were rarer, probably because 1986 was the year they started phasing out the use of die-cast metal and moving toward more plastic.

I can certainly understand one's apprehension with the $60 postage cost, but for the size and weight - it is pretty much equal to what I had to pay to get Unicron over here from the States a couple of years ago. :o

With someting as large as Predaking, Japan post would only offer EMS as the only way to go overseas. They don't do SAL on larger packages.

Wonder if Predaking actually weighs 2.7 kg? My gut says it might be more...

In the email they also mention that they now have a Facebook page... means nothing to me cause I don't have FB, just thought I would mention it for those that are interested.

So it looks like only the parts that were yellow are golden? Which would mean 2 of the figures (Rampage and Tantrum) don't look as fancy...
I know it would ruin/change the colour scheme, but it would make all five look more 'commemorative' if they had shiny gold bits.
Actually, it looks a little tacky with 'half' of Predaking dipped in gold... perhaps having Divebomb and Headstrong on opposite sides could at least spread out the gold bits more, instead of just having one side golden, and one side 'plain'.

To put stickers on or not?

I did, all except for the red eye stickers for the Alt modes with the exception of Razorclaw.
As this was my first time putting stickers on G1 figures, I was naturally quite nervous but by the end, which took 3 hours to get to :eek:, I was pretty satisfied with my efforts:

The worst were the new Red eye stickers, trying to wrap them round the head and down into very narrow spaces whilst ensuring they're lined up correctly was truly nail biting! :D
I like how they look though as they help to give a very uniform look but when they catch the light they look awesome IMO. ;)

Also, this may be just my set, but the rub sign on my Headstrong came off really and ridiculously easy. :mad::(
I wasn't game enough to see if the others have the same problem but just so others know to look out for it - Be Careful When Handling The Factory Applied Stickers.

My 2004 reissue is still MISB, just didn't get around to opening 'em.

I'm pretty sold by the gold colours and also the eye stickers you keep mentioning (and saw your photos too). I love the consistency of Decepticons having red eyes... if I do get the set, these are the main reasons. heh.

annoyingly mine isnt stuck in customs but stuck with the lazy ass courier.

the normal austpost guy came and delivered my order from RK yesterday which i signed for. by the afternoon i checked my mailbox and there was a card saying they had missed me and i needed to go to my local post office to pick it up.
so when i got there the employee told me that its still with the courier and that he hadnt written what time i could pick it up.

lazy ass courier couldnt be bothered to carry it to my door.

Cheers guys! Yeah, hopefully it will arrive today because I rang Auspost yesterday and they said it arrived at their mail sorting center awaiting pickup by the courier.

Maybe it has a bit to do with the time of year, but whenever I order something (from RK or other online sellers) it spends the least amount of time coming from whichever country it's being shipped from. The delay is always when it hits our shores.

BTW Hursty - awesome pics :cool: It's not helping matters though as it makes me want mine now!

I received my Predaking in the mail yesterday too. :D My level of excitement when opening the box certainly went over 9000, in fact, my brain was struggling to process the sheer amounts of awesome I was taking in. Talk about Xmas coming early!

Hursti, with your rub-sign issue, did the whole thing come off or a thin layer of clear plastic? My Razorclaw had a thin clear plastic film which came off but the main rub-sign is still there. It can't be a protection thing as I swear the others didn't have it. Weird. Oh and how did you get your Rhino dude (lulz) to stand up in bot mode?? Mine always falls flat on his back!

If anyone's looking to not apply the stickers, would you please consider selling me Predaking's middle waist sticker from Razorclaw's set? I knew I shouldn't have tried applying the stickers after a long day at work yesterday, managed to botch that one sticker good 'n' proper. >_<*

Hursti, with your rub-sign issue, did the whole thing come off or a thin layer of clear plastic? My Razorclaw had a thin clear plastic film which came off but the main rub-sign is still there. It can't be a protection thing as I swear the others didn't have it. Weird. Oh and how did you get your Rhino dude (lulz) to stand up in bot mode?? Mine always falls flat on his back!

Glad everyone's enjoying this brilliant rendition of Predaking, and for those who don't have him yet be happy in the knowledge that the build quality is lightyears ahead of Hasbro re-issue Piranacon (as you'd expect, coming from Takara). All I need now is 5 Energon cages and I'll have my own private robot zoo...

Ill jump on this bandwagon. I actually think the box is really crap. It doesn't seal properly at the sides without stickytape to aid it.

It's exactly the same physical box design as the last Predaking box, only with different art. I threw mine out too.

If Headstrong is the Rhino, there is a little black tab at the middle back of his robot legs that needs to be pulled out and locked down to make him stand.

The early pics did seem like it had a window, but I don't think that was ever the case :(

I was also surprised that the box wasn't wrapped in plastic as per normal RK standards. It was just packed in the shipping box with a layer of foam.

I'm very surprised that RK didn't have bubblewrap wrapped around the box, but then I guess I suspected that AmiAmi would have the foam like RK but meh, I guess I'm just glad that they arrived safe and sound. :)

Really glad they went with the diecast version too, it just feels so solid and the clicking of joints is pure quality.

Wouldn't have happened here much considering that none of the G1 gestalt gift sets were ever sold in Australia. But even playing with the Predacons individually was pretty awesome as a kid - the only set of big boxed Transformers that could combine. But as awesome as that was, it was also its drawback as it was also the most expensive set to complete. Having a complete Devastator, Defensor, Menasor etc. wasn't uncommon during G1, but growing up I don't think I knew anyone who had the entire set. Maybe one kid... he had a pretty huge collection, although he sold it all in 1988 (I bought his complete Gnaw w/ box for $5!).

Just opeing and playing with mine now. pretty good articulation for a gestalt! Slight elbows, and wrist movement is the exception, not the rule for ye olde G1 combiners. Hefty!

Contemplating whether or not to give them all red-eye. The only one I think really needs it is Razorclaw due to yellow eyes and mane.

Anybody stickered the red eyes? If so, could you post a pic please?

I can tell you exactly what it was like to get these as a kid..... it was so horrible i CRIED!!!!!

No idea what year exactly it was, but for my January Birthday i got 1 from Dad, 1 from Mum, 1 from Brother, 1 from Grandma.... and then there was no more family.... but there was 5 on the box.... and then it was the Yellow Leg that was missing..... OH NO *Sniff sniff WATERWORKS!!!!*

Good thing my parents weren't stupid.... "Oh, there was this one as well, but we didn't know if you'd want it as well" and out it came from the wardrobe...

Even more surprising is the fact we lived 300kms in the country, and the only things i ever saw in stores were 2 of 3 insecticons in Coles

Like others, I've only Red Eye Stickered their Bot mode eyes and Razorclaw's Alt mode eyes.

Predaking is beautiful, but dare I take him out of the box? The box is a work of art, even with a handle to carry the case. I know we've seen enough Combaticon repaints to see a lifetime, but I'd love it if all future combiners were released like this, and we saw a Comabticons/Piranacons reissue.

I can understand why someone wouldn't get it but for me it's about the complete package. The best way I can explain it is that the toy and the box compliment each other because they both tell a story for the era that they were released in. For example, G1 box art is just as nostalgic for me as the toys they came packaged in. Some would argue "why don't you just open it and keep the box", however I consider them to be 'time capsules' in a way.

I hope I've made a little sense in my explanation. Of course everyone is different when it comes to their collecting habits and that's what makes it so great - every collection is individualised and personal.

Agree its a personal thing. If you want to open it, then you should go with you inclination and open it. Way I see it, its a reissue and I have no problems with opening reissues.

(5FDP, the only reason my 2004 reissue Predaking is still sealed is because I have the vintage Takara ones open and didn't need to open the 2004 ones... heh... but now it's become a 'vintage' in itself... and it gets confusing...) :D

Cool, just a shame about the dull hasbro grey coloring, maybe a prototype, it would look awesome in gold like the original pic. Suits grimmy though.
