Hi, just wondering for all the other G1 collectors - how do you store your boxes?
I have a couple in the display cabniet, more in drawers and more in boxes. Best to store them in other boxes or plastic containers? Or even fold them down?
Cheers

I myself only have 2 so I leave them un-flattened in my cupboard, i.e a dry & dust free (bout the only place in my room that is) environment.
Being that they are made of really destructible materials it would probably be ideal to store them in a display case, so long as you have access to one, to prevent moisture, dust and insects from wrecking them.
I reckon if you've got a lot of G1 boxes that to save on storage space, one might be inclined to flatten them out but I'd be concerned that I might run a risk of damaging them if un-careful.
A very interesting question, I wonder what others think?

I store the boxes in a cupboard and flatten them out. I find that they keep their shape better and there is little risk of getting a flap crease.
With cardbacks, I buy clear plastic sleeves from Big W (the hard plastic ones that restaurants use for menus).

Just out of interest, has anyone experimented with laminating card backs and/or tech specs?, Pros vs. Cons?

I keep most of my packaging in my TF room's wardrobe, with others spattered about the room like shoved between or under shelves. I'm thinking about getting rid of a lot of my boxes though as I just need more space for toys. I already did a massive box purge in 2005 where for months I was chucking out boxes after boxes in the recycling bin.

If you're considering chucking out any vintage boxes, please let me know as I'll be waiting by your bin :D

storage is the hardest problem with any collection, the old style boxes are so much easier to store then lets say armada or cybertron i have a cubboard that i stack most of mine in and they can stack rather neatly without sufferring from weights squashing them
card backs are kept in a plastic container
same with instructions
and accessories are in plastic draws
ill see if i can take some pics tonight......

I mostly chuck boxes immediately, though I do keep an odd "representative" box for a certain line sometimes. MOst of which are in the wardrobe of the collection room, At times when the boxes are pretty I keep em ( MPs box) and they might end up on top of the shelves of the collection. I got my G1 collection mostly loose, so the modern reissues that I get ( takara booktype) are the only boxes I keep but those that came with boxes ( usually not the best in condition) I just chuck away.

Some of mine are flattened in plastic tubs, and the non-flattened are wrapped in plastic in big cardboard boxes. I have silica gel packs in there with them as well.
Both methods seem to keep them stored ok.

I don't like keeping things in storage... kinda defeats the point of collecting something if I can't even see it. And that's what's been bugging me... most of my boxes I can't even see.
I'm not going to be getting rid of any of my original G1 or G2 packaging (which I don't have much of), but I may be looking at getting rid of some of my "Collectors Edition" G1 reissue boxes and a lot of my post-G2 stuff. Anyway, you'll see me post more info when it happens. :)

folding up cardboard boxes sounds straight forward enough, but what do other people do with the plastic inserts or plastic bubbles from cardbacks?
i have a fark load of 150L plastic containers at home. Each one is jam packed with packaging from all sorts of TF lines....it feels like playing tetris every time i pack something away just to try to make it all fit and optimise the space.
I've been wanting to flatten all the TF boxes but i cant bring myself to throw away the plastic!

Plastic Bubbles - Bin.
Inserts - catalogue - I keep a copy - they usually are the same anyways. Instructions sheets - kept in Accordion envelopes/expandable envelopes - per series
all other deco print inserts - bin
