S250 (IIRC) also posted this prototype image of its vehicle mode during the Cybertron Con a few weeks ago.

and their "coming soon" advertisement thing from last year. Weird that it seems to be saying he's 30cm tall, considering this component looks Deluxe sized (suggesting he's a lot taller than 30cm.) Then again, I can't read chinese.

That's very impressive but do the individual parts have robot modes?

FFN
19th August 2010, 05:47 PM
I would hope so, otherwise he has a lot of joints for nothing, given the arm mode is more or less just the vehicle mode with the treads folded into his lower arm. If you look at where the guy is holding him, you can see what looks like "Scavenger's" shoulder, mid-bicep rotation and elbow joints.

EDIT: Looks like it uses the same socket and plug system from the Energon/Universe combiner teams.

It would probably be too big to be an upgrade for the Energon combiner. I am interested to see the overall finished product. I had a view of the socket and it is similar but it appears to have a 'locking' mechanism which is good since Energon limbs can be very unstable.

Assuming it's a Deluxe class, and judging by past trends, I think this will cost $50-70USD, assuming a similar production run to something like Fansprojects Bruticus crossfire sets which are Scouts with a load of parts.

What is this? Is it an upgrade or is it a brand new fanmade combiner team? If so, me wantee.

Awh mah gorsh. Totally getting this. I was always wondering how go would be able to make an upgrade to the energon set to make it more devastator like complete with a sixth component but at this point this kind of looks like they don't have to... BUT sizewise this may be a bit too big compared to the other combiners.. So if fp release one of their own as an upgrade I know I'm picking that up too! Heh.

Judging by size, it will be damn expensive. But I will buy one, or three :D

... that thing is massive!!

Cant even imagine how much its going to cost for the full set of constructicons.. even at 50usd a piece- that would be 300 exclusive of shipping.. whoa

Having said that... yes, I cant imagine many a collector not wanting one of these.

We still need menasor, defensor and computron + others!!

I'm curious, though everyone seems to think this is gonna be big, how do you guys know how big it is? I ask because I've got a feeling it's not going to be as big as what we may think.

I dunno, I've got this feeling that the entire gestalt is going to be big but I reckon it's going to be more to scale with the classics gestalts but just a little taller IMO.

Still, who isn't gonna want this?

Well considering the guy is holding it, his hand looks kinda smaller than the figure he is holding. As well as that, Devs hand is uber articulated. Like maybe a bit bigger than MP Primes hands. But we won't know for sure just yet. But it def looks bigger than Bruticus and Superion.

kup
20th August 2010, 12:31 PM
The arm alone looks to be the same size as an Energon combiner. I guess this Devastator would most certainly be large enough to look good with Classics but would not look out of place standing next to MP Prime either.

If it's released in sequence one figure at a time every couple of months or so, it could be manageable financially.

hmm they should really sell em one piece at a time , coz all in one go might be cost prohibitive if they price it like how FP prices their stuff. Plus the fact that Im sure BBTS and other online stores will be bulk buying like mad, leaving very little to no stock left for us interested in it without the middle man:( It's good if indeed they size it for deluxe. IMO Devastator holds first rank always when it comes to Gestalts, being the first and most unique and distinct looking combiner (non interchangeable parts)

Tetsuwan Convoy
23rd December 2010, 02:31 PM
Hmm, yeh, it would be a bit tricky to rpice it all. If we assume theyare about deluxe size, and considering how the run would be smaller than a Hasbro run, I could easily imagine about $40 a figure. $40 x 6 = $240.. A bit more than I am willing to pay I guess...

Could even put it up to $300 for Devs, which is pushing too many $$.

True, but for me it also comes down to the officiality of the toy as well. It is easier to justify money spent on real Transformers rather than an inspired robot.

My main concern is the stability of the combined form.

I think I know what you mean ;), it will no doubt end up very articulated in combined-mode and that is where the problem 'may' lie. :o
I reckon they'll probably do some weight testing and such and if required, certain joints may require stronger ratcheting but we'll just have to wait and see. :)

My only gripe so far is that, whilst I'm aware they're trying to attempt 'Kibble-Free' figures, the chest area just looks... I don't know, empty? - Devy really needs his Chestplate IMO and then that 3rd Party figure would be 'The Tits!' - (by Eric Cartman). :D

Agree with both points, he really does need that winged chestplate thing. I'm still intrigued by it (and the Reflector), anyone know what the best way to get a hold of the figures would be? Robot Kingdom? Gonna be pricey...

I think I've said this before, but I'll be surprised if they don't release a chestplate, considering how they seem to be adhering pretty strongly to how the original G1 Devy looked.

But even if they don't, I can guarantee that another third party company will release one for it. You can't swing a cat without hitting a new third party company nowadays :p

not headmasters (http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac134/scorer24/TF/06022011027.jpg)

imo this thing is even more impressive in person. the molded detailing esp. on the head is great. and the sheer size of this thing is awesome. tfc's past products had pretty solid paint jobs and good qc as well so i personally really look forward to getting this, although this would definitely cost a fortune.

the head masters look great in head modes. but the vehicles mode seems to be just a little bit a stretch.

God damn it!

Couldn't they have made the Headmasters new characters instead of yet more Primes. Who the hell wants OP head and targetmasters?

It would have been far better if they had made the head transform into a roller type vehicle like this prototype for Powermaster Prime:

I generally believe once there is a final product (probably later this year) it will sell like hot cakes. Everyone wants a devastator, and especially if the scale is real time with Classics then it will be a must buy. I can see them firstly making the entire toy, and then selling 6 pieces each.

Yeah oddly enough the idea of an Op headmaster is kind of appealing to me, if it can be used on a exsisting Optimus toy like Powermaster Prime or MP Optimus, seems kinda like an upgrade for Hiq, or Action master prime, who in the comic is HiQ anyway, Not sure about a target master though.

Agreed.

Personally I am comfortable paying $400 max for the set. Any amount over that will require serious contemplation and will most likely result in the figs not being purchased.

Personally, I think the $100 price per fig was leaked out to test the market and see reactions. And TFC better pay attention because if it is anywhere near that price... I think this project will be devastated.

Indeed these figures are coming along quite awesomely, I'd be very surprised though if they charged $100 each for them.
I don't think anyone would be prepared to fork out that sort of money for a 3rd party product and hence I believe that their production wouldn't have even commenced at all if this was the intent from the beginning. ;)

The $100 each figure is pure speculation and most likely started by over-the-top skiddish Americans, take no notice of this amount until an Official word is handed down.

This. This project is Highly significant in the realm of 3rd party releases- it is such an ambitious project because of all these factors of design, pricing, distribution and scalpers. It will affect whether other gestalts will even be produced by 3rd parties. Even if I don't end up getting it, will still be interesting to see how they distribute the product and what results from that.

ITS NOT $100 a figure!!!! That was some dimwit yank that said that and guesstimated.
TFC have not specified the price, but if thousands of ppl buy it, it will help reduce the manufacturing costs incredibly and save costs going forward.

I expect a 2000-3000 piece run.
They need to make 1500 at least to cover costs before they even factor in wages.

Either way, third party products have been in general great. I look at City Commander/Not-Springer/Bruticus/Superion and I am in awe of them....

Having said that, Hasbro/Takara have delivered some magnificent figures this year... (Jazz/Tracks/Wheeljack/Warpath/Scourge/Blurr/Drift...)

Overall - its been a great year for classics...

Damn yanks!!! Looks to me he/she was subliminally trying to influence the makers into money mongering dudes from the feel of it

I do hope they make more than 1000 coz US customers alone will surely dominate in buying these out leaving us nothing of the original run except fro the overinflated ones they will sell off to ebay and such. (read: Scalpers)

There is no way it would be $100. Someone puts a price to it and people fly off the handle about it haha. It's unlikely that it will be that price.

Now I am only speculating here so don't fly off the handle :p but I would put an estimate at $60 a figure tops. Any more than that and mot people would not fork out for it.

If there deluxe size were looking at minimum the cost of Rodimus or and MP for a set then. Which is still going to be a leap of faith considering they are untested when it comes to stability and QC.

That's great - would you say around Sideswipe deluxe? A little bit bigger is fine (makes for a bigger combiner figure too) Also, hopefully the plastic quality and paintjob is superb too as it would be a shame if such nice molds be ruined by poor QC of material and paint. the $480 plus shipping for me is wel acceptable, not totally agreeable but hey Im still hoping there would be enough supply...and I have enough ,oolah when the time comes.

Yeah, apparently the original pre-order was for the ENTIRE thing for $77.90.
On their FB page some people are whinging about it being changed to one part(about half an hour after), Po is just stating that they will be refunding the difference in shipping and sending the individual figure.

So the more interesting question is, has anyone ordered this guy/anyone will order or intends to order or considering ordering?

I'm still undecided at this point. The total price of $480 is about $80 more than what I original stated I would be willing to spend (excluding shipping).. and I am certainly more keen to purchase. But I am so apprehensive about it as to the many factors that could go wrong for an expense this large.

i.e. the quality, finish and QC of the final product has yet to be shown. Also ordering from RK is cheaper, yet they don't have a POL.... I hate that fact.. as shipping will be damn pricey for all 6 figures. I am also kind of hoping they do a giftset of the 6 after everyone has been released. I mean, logically, it would make sense as they've put so much into the 6 moulds, they would want to recoup as much profit by doing as much runs as possible...aso many uncertainties alongside huge down payment.

So the more interesting question is, has anyone ordered this guy/anyone will order or intends to order or considering ordering?

i just preordered this along with some other figures and the shipping was only 52.99USD for 6 items.

nuff said? :D

its way too expensive for something that has no guaranteed quality control.
c'mon... you know you want it...;)
besides theres no 100% guarantee on quality control even with the legit HasTakTom stuff that are being released these days...ermm encore bruticus and MP-09 anyone? :p

we were thinking that we'll buy the first figure and see what its like. if its shiet, then consider it as a learning experience. but if its brilliant... well fark yeah. worse case covered.
with regards to the cost, 480 to 500 posted spread over 6 months is well less than what a keen DOTM/ROTF/Movie2007 collector will spend in even a shorter period (thats like 5 leader class figures or 10 voyagers etc...). i know that i'll definitely wont be going nuts on the DOTM line so my money's gotta go somewhere else right?:p hehehe

but seriously, it all boils down in the end to your own circumstances and what you enjoy collecting/buying. fair enough if you dont want to get these bad boys....

Preorder up on bbts for $98 (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=tfc10014&mode=retail) of course. Releasing July.

ITS NOT $100 a figure!!!! That was some dimwit yank that said that and guesstimated.

Pretty good dimwit guesstimation then. Particularly since BBTS is selling 'Collectors Grade' for $99.99. I could buy a complete Overlord for the price they'll be selling this whole thing for.

why is there a big markup between BBTS and TFsource's price compared to RK's 77.9USD price?

"Is your character from a cartoon?" Reminds me of Akinator in that pose! Nice! ;)

Considering RK's recent string of missing and messed up orders, I'd pay extra for the securtiy of bbts. Although I'm anticipating a gradual price increase on each figure as they're released. "Oh I've got the other five, what's another $150 US?" At least you can get them shipped together.

Hmm... RK, including shipping is cheaper than the cost of the item from BBTS, although RK missing orders... I dunno, personally never had any problem myself. I will risk it.

I am leaning on getting it now. Ill just get the first one to see the quality. The EV on buying is okay. Worse comes to worse, can sell it for a minor loss, or at cost of what I paid if it doesnt live to expectations. If not getting in on it, the increased secondary market price will be too much if the fig is a hit, after the fact.

As for price increase, I can accept a few dollars difference between some of the releases.. that is all I would tolerate. Man if they jack up the last few...I don't think that would be good business to alienate their customers.

Before I decide, I need to see more on Maketoys' Devastator which so far is more to my liking in both design and scale but I need to see more to make the call.

If you order from RBK, theyre about $95AUD with postage- with the current exchange rate. edit:

after a small play- simple transformation, gun only just fits into his hand so can pop out pretty easily, head isnt on a balljoint, better articulation for his arms would of been nice. His robot mode does look cool but out of the 3 released so far i would say this is the weakest one.

So I finally opened up my Exgraver this weekend past. I had intended on getting the set of these JUST IN CASE my initial preference of Maketoys didn't work out, and also because regardless this looked to be a pretty unique and pretty massive Transformer.

However, I have decided to cancel that entire plan.

The QC on this thing is atrocious. The feet were missassembled. There is somewhat of an automorph in that when you pull the front of the foot down, the back comes down equidistantly. These were completely misaligned. After taking out the four screws and realigning the feet, i noticed most of the screws simply did not grip on the way back in. Mind you, I wasn't the slightest bit forceful, but regardless, they were mostly threaded. Additionally, one of the screws holding the codpiece together was screwed in so tightly, the plastic around it had cracked. And that's just the QC.

The transformation is incredibly simple. There's too much disassembling/reassembling, and the robot aesthetically simply does not fit in in any line I can think of.

I no longer have any intention to purchase the rest. I will contact TFC about repairing my current unit and put it up for sale. Maketoys or bust.

I was about to say that the feet were not broken or mis-assembled but simply out of alignment, push the toes all the way down and they come loose of each other allowing one to be moved independently of the other, but then you mentioned the screws. Ouch, sorry to hear about that.

I don't think you would like Heavy Labor either as there is a serious flaw in his waist. The plastic gears inside that worked the forward articulation would become stripped after too much use, much like how Exgravers original shovel stressed the black plastic to breaking point, this ground down the grey plastic teeth inside. All is not lost though as TFC are said to be packing a fix for HL with one of the last two.

The other two appear to be fine, for now. Time will tell. I am kinda disapointed with Cranks lack of string.

Also, I suggest at least glancing through the tfc toys hercules megathread (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/425742-tfc-toys-hercules-megathread.html) on TFW. It is the most active thread on these anywhere.

wait, so the Dump truck breaks if you try and play with it?

Well, all of a sudden I don't feel like spending 400 bucks on something that defective.

I am more convinced than ever that waiting for the Maketoys release was the way to go.

I agree. Aesthetically it's superior, and being smaller figures there's more of a reliance on ball joints rather than ratchet joints. So the worst case QC scenario is that some clear nail polish might be needed.

The QC on their Prime Battle Tanker is apparently pretty good too (head snapping aside).

The final coloured pictures of TFC Bonecrusher and Mixmaster only cement my decision further - neither of them looks anything like the characters they are referencing, which is true for 4 out of 6 of the TFC toys IMHO. Maketoys nails it with Hook, Scavenger, Mixmaster and Scrapper (although Scrapper is more an updated classics-verse reference rather than an out-and-out G1 copy). Neither company seems to have nailed Long Haul, being the middle joint that's forgiveable plus his G1 design wouldn't translate well anyway. Instead Maketoys is channeling the Bayverse Long Haul (not necessarily a bad thing), while TFC were channeling a stack of bricks. Not sure what was so hard to get right on Bonecrusher but 5 out of 6 isn't bad! :D

For me the figures HAVE to work individually and not just in combined mode. I've read a lot of posts from guys saying they don't care how accurate the smaller bots are since he'll just stay in combined mode. I personally don't see the point in a $600 statue.

The ONLY thing I can say against Maketoys is that they're yet to put up any proper pre-orders anywhere, and that we have to wait until later next year to get the G1 colouring. More time to save I guess.

It's more like $600 for this TFC release. $400 is the approx price for the maketoys version

Yeh people are no doubt getting antsy over some pre order news, but I'd rather wait a little longer and get something refined with few flaws inbetween - than what jayd had to endure :p

And that's before postage. Although all up you can get all 6 express delivered from Robot Kingdom for $550. So hopefully the Maketoys one is actually $400 all-told.

Maybe we should organise a group buy for Maketoys for different states to save on shipping? Could have done it on TFC's as well but too late now I guess?

I'm planning on doing a bulk buy of a few things at the same time. Can't see too many Tasmanians being up for the Giant! :-P

Another eventuality for the TFC figure will no doubt be another third party doing more G1-styled heads for all the figures...

Ooo got any links or photos to this new G1 visor look? Doubt it'll change my mind (mainly because of the price :p) but keen to see what it looks like anyway

I was uhm-ing and ah-ing as to which I want- MakeToys or TFC Toys... and decided to go with both...

Jay: Sorry to hear about your QC issues - that's poo - I think mine's the 2nd release so no issues with him...

That said, the rachet point for my Scrapper (when in combined mode) was completely useless.. Plastic tolerance-wise I lucked out in the opposite direction. That said, some 'ingenious' tinkering later and I don't think I'll ever have a problem with it again :) (I fixed it with a ... bulldog clip ... haha)

That said, when it comes down to it I got impatient waiting for Maketoys' Devy - but am glad I got this too - individual modes are OK, not great, and the heads really just could use some ball-joint action as the bots aren't as bad as I thought they'd be - just that they can't emote as well as the Maketoys ones without better articulated head/necks

I have to say they feel bloody sturdy though. Looks and feels great combined. My make-shift combined mode is NOT sturdy though :b

I reckon it's inevitable. The amount of money and the sheer demand for classics style combiners is probably too irresistable for our third party friends to ignore. Hoping for a Defensor next!
