The size of MP Grimlock honestly doesn't bother me. Anyway, here's some comparative shots showing the size difference between original G1 Grimlock and Optimus Prime, and between MP Grimlock and Convoy.

Those are some interesting shots Goki, I was actually considering doing something similar when I eventually pick MP Grimlock up.

It's an interesting coincidence that MP Grimlock is roughly the the same (scale) height compared to MP Optimus as G1 Grimlock is to G1 Optimus, do you think that there was any intention behind it? or that it just happened to work out that way?

Doubt it. It was probably a budget thing

Most likely. The figure was pretty expensive as it was, I hate to see what the price would have been if they made him bigger.

That's exactly what I heard.

I'm more than happy with his size.

But it's such a simplistic design (by MP standards) and smaller toy and sold at a higher than average RRP*. If they reduced the size to save money, then why was this saving not passed onto consumers?

------------------------------
*I'm talking about the Japanese RRP - MP Grimlock's 13650JPY RRP is higher than any other Masterpiece (except for MP04 Convoy w/ trailer of course).

Perhaps raw material costs had increased over time.

He also comes off feeling bulkier then the others, as if more has gone into him

Theres no incentive to lower their prices. They already have contracts in place with retailers&resellers which will bring in a guaranteed revenue. Any cost savings they have from the simplified manufacturing process will just go into boosting their own profit margin (or more realistically: offset rising costs of labour/materials etc)

However if retailers and resellers are unhappy with sales figures because of the high RRP they can choose to drop or reduce their contract with Hasbro. This of course would result in a very substantial loss of potential revenue for the retailer unless he can find some other product that will sell just as well to replace TFs with.
