I'm cheering for the West as the East is irrelevant. Hoping the Celtics can turf out the Cavaliers and the Bucks beat the Bulls, but the Bulls will have a 1-0 series lead in about 10 minutes.
I love my Rockets, but there is no way they can beat the Spurs or Warriors in a 7 game series. We should beat the Mavs.
Best series in the first round should be Washington vs. Raptors in the east and Clippers vs Spurs in the West.

Hmm I can't tell if the Steve was an auto correct for Steph Curry or are you acknowledging that his game is a lot like Nash in his mvp seasons? Either way go Dubs!

As a devoted Rockets fan, I can't believe they beat the Clippers after the drubbings they received.
I'm also tipping Golden State in 5.
Not so sure in the East, Cavs seem to improve every time they lose a player...

Underwhelming performance from the Bulls. They lost to a team who had their two best players not playing well in Game 6. They had their best chance to get to the finals in the weak East.
A good shooting percentage is difficult to keep up every series. I hope that Golden State is able to keep it up all throughout.

The Dubs have been the stand out team all season, they deserve to win and it has been a long time coming.
Never liked the Cavs, even though lebron is a brilliant player and decent guy, it still feels like ever since he joined Miami he has been about buying titles, not crafting them.
Plus Bogut is far better than Delladova, even with all the injuries! :p

Thankfully e team that built and crafted a championship team won over the team that tried to buy one.
The better team did win, but the Cavs fans and bandwagoners will always wonder what could have been had Love and Irving not gone down injured!

Being a Dubs supporter since the run TMC days this win doesn't quite feel real yet after all the times we spent as being a cellar dweller. Cue up that song Freddie Mercury! :D

Warriors beat the Grizzlies by 50 today!!
OK I'm a devoted Trail Blazers fan, watch every game on League Pass. We're rebuilding but it's a fun, young, running and gunning team this year. Nice to see them get up over the T-Wolves in Minnesota today.
So what other teams are being followed by people here?
Anyone play 2K? I've been playing NBA games since NBA Live 95! Just recently got 2K16 and I'm finding it very hard on my usual Superstar difficulty, have yet to beat the computer yet. Once I get the hang of it I'll be playing online on the PS4. Anyone else have it that wants a game online?

I follow the Spurs and hope they can contend this year, the addition of Aldridge will help, just hope Parker, Duncan and Manu stay healthy come Finals time. Pop is a great coach and they play team basketball beautifully.
I don't have NBA 2K16 yet on PS4 but hope to get it and have the time to play it soon.

Curry is on another level at the moment. It's just not fair!
Yeh most Blazers fans are still raw about the way Aldridge left. He had his right to choose where he played but he did say last year that he wanted to be the best Blazer of all time and stay. Interesting to see how he fits in San Antonio. Amazing how the Spurs remain at the top all these years, that trade for Leonard for George Hill was masterful.
The controls on 2K16 are a little different than 2K15, that's the bit I'm struggling with.

Yeah be interesting when both teams meet in Rip city and the reaction LaMarcus will receive. At least he didn't have a TV broadcast about "The Decision" lol.
Portland has a young talented team but will see how they fare, the Western Conference is a tough place.
The Spurs are one of the top organisations in executive management in keeping their teams in contention and scouting talent in USA and abroad. Plus Coach Pop sets the tone and everyone follows, there are no egos, they recruit certain players with the right personalities and attitude.

Ha ha ha, so true. Wonder if DeAndre was just using Dallas as leverage to get a max deal.
I reckon Doc Rivers job is on the line this season, he's had enough time with the team and if they don't make the NBA Finals and win it, he's gone.
Was really disappointed in the way he dissed the new champs, expected more class from him. Came off as a petulant sore loser imho.

It's actually nice to have no expectations this year. If Portland is bad then we get a high draft pick (hopefully bad enough to get Ben Simmons!!). If they surprise people then it means Lillard, McCollum and the other youngsters are a good core and we have so much cap room to add players through lopsided trades or free agency. Whereas last year it was stressful because they had to be good to have a chance of resigning Aldridge.
Blazer fans generally despise the Rockettes, Thunder and the Lakers/Clippers. But we have utmost respect for the Spurs, Warriors and Grizzlies. The only thing that is starting to bug me is Pops interviews, he comes across now as being bigger than the game with his antics. But most people love him for the way he gives the media a hard time.

I saw Ben Simmons earlier this year playing in an exhibition game in Newcastle when LSU came to Australia. I was pretty impressed, the size, athleticism, court vision and ability to get to the rim. If he can get a deadly jumpshot, he'll be unstoppable in NCAA.
Yeah I hear you about Pop, sometimes he comes up with some witty zingers or be very dry with sarcasm. Other times he can seem really rude, he is a lot like Wayne Bennett in that way. Then again some of the questions he fields border on Captain Obvious ones to the downright stupid or vapid. If you had to do that for a decade, you might turn out the same ha ha.

What an odd and tough to pick opening week! My rockets have been abysmal and with how tough the west is, they need to improve fast or they'll be only competing for 5-8th.
Looks like injuries are the he only thing that will stop the Warriors and Cavs getting through to the finals again, Curry is posting near impossible to maintain figures, but he is just in that good touch at he moment.
Could be the last year for he Clippers, Rockets, OKC and Spurs to truly contend as well, their stars are getting older and more expensive, and other than he Clippers, I'd be happy if any of the other teams won it. If I was only new to the NBA the Spurs would be my team (Hakeem the Dream ensured I was a rocket fan since the 91-92 season) but I cannot see how anyone cannot say that the Warriors are not their second or third team, they are just playing entertaining, tough basketball.
Nice to see the Lakers and Brooklyn where they deserve to be as well. I think the Knicks and Jazz might be some dark horses, the Jazz have rebuilt well and the Knicks can only improve.
Let's see if the 8th seed in the East is better than the 12th in the West for the first time in years come finals time.

I understand with Brooklyn, they used money to build that team and self-destructed and couldn't win a championship. Miami did the same and probably worse (big three connived/conspired to build that team).
But with the lakers, the problem was Jim Buss, his bad decisions(not choosing Phil, etc), and injuries and had to rebuild. As far as money, are you referring to paying Kobe less? They offered the same amount of money to Pau (if not more than the Bulls) and other players but they turned down the franchise because of ring chasing. I don't think money is the problem for the lakers. It's still the roster. If the Lakers focused on continuity the way the Spurs did, they would still dominate the league. If that team with Pau, Dwight, Steve, Kobe, and others were fully healthy, anything's possible. If Kobe and Phil stayed together like Duncan and Pop, who knows what the lakers could've accomplished. But then, it would be boring if they were always the teams that reached the top.
Sure, Harden is great for the Rockets but they have their own issues and I don't see them really going all the way. Kobe is retiring soon and Dwight didn't want to wait to be the man or didn't want to have that pressure of winning for the lakers (2nd coming of Shaq). But he's still second fiddle to Harden now :)

Kobe needs to retire after this season so they can do the full on rebuild properly. I think they may have reached for Russell with their No.2 draft pick, why didn't they take Okafor?

Kobe can still come off the bench in a limited role if he wanted to ring chase. But with a big paycut of course. This last contract was more of a thank you for all the years. They offered max contract to Dwight.
The management and teams are changing the way the game is played. Big man is no longer priority. Just like how Harden is more impt than Dwight and Curry to Bogut or Greene.
A really good guard is now being valued higher than a solid big man.

I feel Howard is overrated, yes he is a premier centre in the league but that's not saying much.
His offensive moves are limited even under the tutelage of Hakeem, but most grating of all is his inexplicable capacity to brain fart and give away countless technicals at the most critical times in a game or get himself tossed. It's a category that he's led year after year.
He's able to dish out the elbows but can't take it back and ends up getting T'd up when he retaliates.
I'd be more worried if Harden was out for a long spell or the season than if Howard was lost to the Rockets.

Yeah the Grizzlies lack of outside shooting doesn't keep defences honest on Z-Bo or Gasol so they get double or triple teamed a lot.

He's a cheap vet so I doubt that would have been the issue. Chalmers is also a FA at the end of this season I believe. I just think they were looking for more 3pt shooting to improve spacing. Udrih is a killer in the mid range but not as good further out.
Lamarcus Aldridge's first return visit to Portland today. Will be interesting to see the reception from the crowd. He was a great player but after saying he wanted to be the best Blazer ever and then leaving 12 months later you have to imagine it will be luke warm at best. There goes the Rockets Playoff run. No McHale to try and keep the egos of three prima donnas means a splintered locker room and the terrible play will continue. I know we beat the Blazers but it needed a Harden powerplay in overtime to get there.
Another sub 40% FG night, Ty Lawson 1/8 in another insipid performance. Lawson was always a bad idea but Rockets Management wanted to relieve some burden off Harden, who doesn't like to share, and Lawson is just ice cold now.
The Rockets may slip into 7 or 8, but what is the point of going down 4-0 in the first round to the Warriors, Spurs or Thunder?

Its become very clear post all star game as to how much stronger the West is than the East, even more so than the last half a dozen years.
I was hopeful that someone would've taken Howard from the Rockets, but alas, it was not to be.
So do we think the Lakers will end up winning the Simmons sweepstakes? Philly with the worst record get pipped at the the ballot is my prediction. Harden may carry the Rockets to one win but I agree it's most likely to be a Warriors sweep. Houston and Chicago were the big under performers this year.
Actually Portland finished all the way up at the 5th seed! Incredible performance in a rebuilding year. They are matched up with the Clippers, the worst of the top 4 seeds. If they can push them to 6 games that will be a huge success.
But yes, it should be Warriors vs Spurs in the WCF. And I think whoever wins that will take the title barring injuries to their top players. Cleveland just don't look like a championship team to me.

It was marvellous wasn't it? Cleveland deserves a title. For as incredible as the Warriors were in the regular season, they have not looked like a 73 win regular season team in the playoffs. What a nail biter of a game at Golden State. When the Cavs scored that 3 pointer near the end I thought to myself, " Play it smart and they can't take this cup from you. " And then King James scores the 1 pointer with seconds left and the deal is sealed. What a well deserved, record breaking victory that stands alongside the awesome victory that happened on today's episode of Game of Thrones.:D

I wish Green didn't get suspended or Bogut injured in game 5. Congrats, Cavs!
I actually prefer the OKC series to this one.

Always a couple of "what ifs" for each championship. Sad my team lost but the Cavs were the better team on the day. Go Dubs for next year then! :)

Why are the warriors the favorite to win next year? Shouldn't the Cavs be the favorite now?

Fluke for the Cavs :p
Maybe all the off-season talk about Durant and Dirk.

Watching that 4th quarter was surreal. So glad the Cavs won.
NBA Draft today - going to be crazy. Celtics will be wheeling and dealing - they won't keep all 8 draft picks.

Are you going for underdogs? Or a Cavs fan or a Lebron fan?

Sorry I missed this. I'm a Blazers fan which by nature implies I go for underdogs lol. Yes I always go underdog in the finals. Was also happy to see Cleveland win its first title.
And by the way, DURANT TO GSW????? I'll be backing Lebron big time to beat them next finals. If he does he is GOAT.

Anything the Cavs can do, Warriors can do better....
Cavs bought a championship, with the acquisition of Westbrook have shown they are willing to do the same. Not sure it's the best move as it'll mess up their team dynamic.
Also a bonus for the Mavs who get Barnes.
Some of these new contracts going out are insane, 40 million for Delladova? Ridiculous.

BOOMERS!!!
Real chance for the gold medal game now. Prettiest offence of the tournament. Been a nice way of getting through until the NBA starts back up.

Team USA can't play as a team to save their lives. I've been calling it from the start we're either gold or silver.
And yes prettiest offense for sure!

8am tomorrow is a perfect time to watch the game.
Debating whether I want to get up for the USA vs Spain game at 4:30am. Would love to see Spain beat them, a Spain v Australia final would be a great match up.

No words to describe that performance....USA will smash Serbia.

Insipid and scared. Serbia bashed up the Aussies and the Aussies did not respond. Refs put their whistles away, should have given Australia the freedom they need to bash Serbia right back.
Too many threes as the Serbians shut down the paint, well played to them.
If we play anything like that against Spain it'll be another disappointing team performance by the Aussies in Rio.

Preseason has just begun, finally!
Just renewed my NBA League Pass subscription through Canada yesterday. Was cheaper to do it in £ (strange?) Came out to ~A$145 before the currency conversion fee. Way better than the standard A$330 for Aussie subscribers!

It would be nice if the Knicks don't suck this year. (I only follow them by proxy because I'm a huge Rangers man).
Their off-season signings have me intrigued.

Went down to the hyper offensive rockets today but their
Lineup looks very solid if rose can stay fit to feed melo. Jennings is an awesome sixth man.
Clippers looked completely out of sorts, and the Warriors cruised past them without needing Durant and Curry to do much.

What a glorious start to the season. Blazers win. Warriors get run out of their own building. Lillard could really win MVP this year.
Edit: Sorry Dubs fans. Don't worry, you'll win plenty this year. ;)

Spurs aren't going away this year and the Knicks will get better as the season goes on, but the Cavs look like the season didn't end for them.
Hoping that the Rockets will be rejuvenated without Dwight, might take us 2-3 weeks to get into a good groove though. Sadly Howard will have gotten Atlanta fans hopes up with his decent pre-season, but he did that at the Lakers and the Rockets as well.
I think New Orleans and Denver will be the interesting match to see how much they've changed this offseason. Mavs should be fun to watch too.

Chris Paul and James Hadden in the same team... either a brilliant move or an absolutely horrible one. Some proficient scorers who can cover one another if one hits a slump or goes cold from beyond the arc but only if they both are happy to have fewer touches than last year. Harden does need someone to give him spells, no human body can last long the way he punishes his.
If they can somehow get George then they have to be the best chance we will see of pushing the Warriors to seven games. Cleveland aren't going to do it...

Houston gave so much to get Paul. Is it worth it?
Borgeman
30th June 2017, 10:03 AM
They gave a lot in quantity, but much of it was to clear cap space, it was only really 3 players of note. Having said that they lose on depth now but without a hard cap if the owners are happy to pay luxury tax it doesnt really matter

Phil is out of NY and I hope Magic can transform the lakers.
West is part of the change for the Clippers. Let's see if he can do for them what he contributed to the Warriors.

The whole NBL jersey debacle is a sham to get the CEO’s sons company some cash at the expense of good jerseys that might be worth the ridiculous price tag they go for. No wonder the NBL is a small time league that will struggle to succeed while the focus is on making money for the top end instead of growing he game and development of players.

Yeh we are massive underdogs but we play better when the experts write us off. Just unbelievable to get this far, I remember thinking when Nurkic broke his leg that our season was over. Hopefully we can push it to at least six games.
How about the Kawhi buzzer beater? I was watching it at home, just incredible! We got two amazing game 7s in one day.

You have no idea how badly i want GS to lose! In my eyes Durant is not a world champion yet. He needs to win without GS to get to championship status. Everyone is just running to GS to get a ring... (cough Durant/Cousins cough) i have nil respect for that!
