Seriously, this looks so incredible just from the pic- man oh man. I will definitely pick this up over the Has/Tak version if the cost is reasonable- nothing beats the original altmode. I hope they do the same for perceptor aswell.

Too much good stuff next year- Dunno if I can afford all of em'.

I wonder if they'll modernize the detailing to make it a digital camera. That would be cool.

Hmm.. I have never bought a Perfect Effect product before. Hopefully the quality will be half decent. What is the quality/size of the R/F? I was planning on getting them also.

Qulity IMO is not bad, considering they are a smaller scale operation than Has/Tak. Overall, I think they are great little figures, and they are quite small. Can't seem to find the pictures I have atm, but I will try to get on the computer when I get home and post it for you, if someone else doesn't do it before me :p

Personally, I don't find the quality to be that bad. Only problem I have with one of my Shadow Warriors is the gun peg doesn't fit in his hand. Other than that, they are fine.

Anyway onto Shield. I like how you can store his weapons in the riot shield, nice touch. Love the tripod mode. And by the look of things, you can look through Edge like a camera :p

I can't wait to get my hands on him.

Between the pair me and Kup ordered, we had two left arms on one, an adapter plug that didn't fit well, and a few minor paint app issues.

I suppose it could be worse, but it detracted from my enjoyment of them a bit. It's taken some time but FP have set the standard high now.

While I don't own any PE stuff, the stated QC issues made me rethink and not get the R/F no matter how awesome they looked considering the cost and that Has/Tak have come out with their own versions.

With this, I'll probably have to wait for a few reviews before I bite...

I don't think the official one properly represents the character(s) since it's just a repaint pr Perceptor. This toy is a very good effort in modernizing the original G1 toy but PerfectEffect do have a history of bad QC.

It's to my understanding that when combined for the Camera Alt Mode, this set is roughly the size of a Deluxe class figure, i.e say the size of Universe 2.0 Hound (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=9488&page=2). :)

Although the tfclub release is prob gona be a repaint of a real camera, or the 2007 movie real gear bots...and cost about $100 to ship to Australia.

I gota say, this third party release by PE is fairly awesome. Coupled together with a decent pricetag, is gona be a juggernaut against anything tfclub can hope to muster.

Guys, I have seen the mold in person yesterday at hobbybase in Mong Kok (www.hobbybase.com)

Costs $529HKD pre-order ( $67AUD).

First comment - its BLOODY small. How small? About the size of reveal the shield windcharger. So $67 is ALOT of money for it. Articulation is great though.

Personally I think the TFclub version is better.

The size was to be expected as I remember a comparison pic with the PerfectEffect Not-Rumble/Frenzy. They did look about the same size as RTS Windcharger but it is taller than their Shadow Warrior figure.

they might struggle to get good QC on a figure that size and that complex.

the TFC one looks interesting though...a very modern upgrade...
i wonder if the lens will look that good on the finished product?

I think that the design is sound - It's pretty awesome but like it has been said already, PE's manufacturing quality has been less than satisfactory, specially when it comes to QC issues.

I hope that PE has improved on this as they already have a bit of a rep for bad QC even if their products are really nicely designed with very good 'classic' sculpting.

Not Rumble and Frenzy have a fair bit of bad QC. It is often with the paint applications and assembly. I bought my set and sadly, one of the figures came with two left fists. Fortunately RK was able to send me a replacement so it's all good now but it seems that my experience was not isolated.

Well in my experience, all the stuff I got from them has been tip top. I have 2 Shadow Warriors and a pair of Not-Frumbles, and they are all pretty good. Though the gun for Not-Rumble (blue one) won't stay plugged onto his leg, that's a minor/non inconvenience for me.

Not saying the QC is perfect, but I have yet to have a major problem.

Just seen a review for these - distinctly unimpressed.

For me they were actually better than expected but it seems that FR couldn't transform one of the robots properly for some reason and that's what caused some instability, the other two robots were fine.

The biggest shocker would probably be the size but I was fully expecting that since the Shadow Warrior mold is pretty small.

SharkyMcShark
29th April 2011, 01:57 PM
My issue was that basically its just three little robots that transform into cubes.

Then you plug the cubes together and stick on accessories until it looks something like a camera.

That's not a lot of bang for the buck they're asking

What are your thoughts on the original Reflector then dude?

The toy that became reflector was made ~30 years ago, as such I don't find such comparisons useful.

It's like comparing MP Prime or RotF Leader Prime to the original Optimus Prime toy.

I was merely highlighting the fact that 3 bots turning into blocks isn't a new thing is all, but each to their own - I just think these are better than a retooled Perceptor but obviously that isn't an option for Official Only collectors huh? :o
I reckon they do a decent job of paying homage to the original figures as well as incorporating a degree of cartoon likeness - They're better then a Shell-former anyway, IMO. :p

kaiden
29th April 2011, 02:45 PM
they're fun to play and pose and mess around with the accessories but camera mode is a huge let down - one of their heads is still visible.

i like th tripod and lens? but the three 'reflectors' dont hold together well and must rely on the shield and its 3 tabs to hold them i place.

its certainly quite pricey for what i got in the end but i would have to say its better than their previous stuff which i hopeful for the future products they make.

Sky Shadow
29th April 2011, 03:03 PM
That is a useless comparison.

Of course, because the technology to make toys unenjoyable has improved so much in the past thirty years that it's unfair to a 2009 toy for it to be judged against one from the 1980s.

Picked up mine yesterday from Oilspill. Gotta say i'm lovin these guys!

Some minor possible quality issues were found though: one of the 'arm guard panels' doesn't fit into the 'lens barrel' perfectly when it's stuffed full of weapons and SFX-03 Bullet doesnt quite lock into place happily in camera mode.

These could both be the result of non-perfect-part-positioning on my part but it is annoying if you have to be spot on because the tolerances for getting it all the snap together perfectly are so tight.

I still wish they were bigger. Their small size and complexity makes them extremely fiddly, even for my small girly hands. A larger size would have made them far more wieldy and allow for greater tolerances in the transformation.

Gotta say, love the faces on these guys. So mean!

Oilspill
11th May 2011, 11:35 PM
Yeah, these guys are really awesome! I love how everything stores away, and the posability is top-notch, and the minigun even spins :)

Lint, I don' know if it's the same issue but it took me ages to work out how to get everything to line up right when storing the weapons for camera mode. I had problems with the arm guard too until I switched the part that holds the knife the other way around or something (can't quite recall now). Plus there were a couple of tiny bits of flash that I had to remove with a scalpel on mine.

But overall an awesome set, so tiny and so much detail. :D

Thanks for the tip man, lens fits together nicely now. :D Turns out I had the knife stored the wrong way around last night, only just noticed that there is an outline on the inside of the arm guard showing you which way to park the knife.

I havent directly tried but I don't think so. Especially in a holding-a-camera-properly sort of way.

I did so happen to try to get Rts Lugnut to hold Reflector today but the camera is a little oversize and the weight is somewhat toppling.

I just received my set, courtesy of KillingSpoon, today and I've got to say they are far and beyond the Shadow Warrior/Frenzy/Rumble mold in every way!
I intend on doing a bit of a review of them later in the week, along with some more photos but in the mean time, here are some initial thoughts:

Colour Scheme/Paint Apps are brilliant. :D
Accessory count is crazy!
Well thought out and executed accessories. :D
Figure construction and execution is superb. :D
Figure articulation and poseability is insane! :D
Transformation and parts integration is truly ingenious.

Their size I'm perfectly fine with because even at this size, they out-do quite a few official deluxe figures and set a damn high standard for any future 3rd party reflector and/or 3rd party figures of this size. ;)
The plastic quality is quite acceptable to me, but I can see where some are a little irked by it but at any rate, one has to admit that Perfect Effect have come a hell of along way. :D

I really hope to see some more varied Alt mode designs come from PE, which are stand alone figures and not accessories for other figures as SFX - Scouting Force X clearly demonstrates PE's ability to pull this sort of thing off. ;)

I want Blaster tapes like Steeljaw and Ramhorn. After that combiner tapes and the more obscure Soundwave tapes like Overkill and Slugfest. However they should pull away from the targetmaster alt modes into something a bit more inventive; they have already shown that they can be creative.

Finally got this set in my hands today.

Just transformed them into camera mode and back. Very nice.

I don't care for the knives or the extra weapons... I just prefer to display them as 3 bots. But I will need em for camera mode. So the knives will stay in the box.

Overall I don't have many complaints. While Reflector is cool, generally, PE stuff just doesn't wow me as the FansProject stuff does.

Hopefully they do Ramhorn/steeljaw soon.

Logically it would either have a red Spectro and blue Spyglass or be recoloured to look like a 'real' camera.

Which means they'll probably do something completely different, like Nemesis Reflector. Then again, since a real camera could be black, maybe it is Nemesis Reflector.

I wondered if they'd go for a more Diaclone/Microchange or G1 Figure accurate colour scheme, because if they've done their research then they'd know that the set would sell like crack to an addict. :p
It is also possible that they'd go for some obscure scheme as you said, like a 'real' camera, I guess we'll just have to wait until Botcon to see what these look like. :o

I'll second - or third or fourth or fifth or whatever - the PE not-Reflector love.

I've got the black redeco, and while I paid too much for them (Japanese hobby shop prices :( ) they're a great set.
My only criticism is that they're kind of small in 'bot mode, but to be be fair that makes for a nice compact camera mode. That and the way that having the accessories numbered makes it hard to set them up the way you want weapons-wise if you're not into the suggested set-up.

But still, definitely the best Reflector set out there.:)
