View Full Version : To Blister or Not to Blister?

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a bind. :(

It's come to the point where my extraordinarily small amount of storage space for TF packaging, i.e. Deluxe figures and downwards in scale, is at breaking point. :(
Now, I've no intention of selling my figures any time soon but have been keeping the packaging in the belief that if I had to, they'd be able to fetch a little more. :o
(Packaging comprises of Classics, Universe 2.0, Generations and ROTF - Deluxe, Scout & Legends classes)

My question is should I:
1. Try to find alternative storage means?
2. Take the bubble and blister of the backing card and keep the card?
3. Turf the lot?
Thoughts and Opinions?

I myself tend to remove the blister and chuck it, keeping the backing cards and the name tag thingy, the store much better in a plastic box on a shelf

I chuck out the blisters and keep the cards. Cards don't take up too much space since they store flat. :) Also, keeping the blister wouldn't do much for resale value anyway since you've cut it open and it can't be repackaged. Some Takara/TOMY blisters might be worth keeping since they can be repackaged - but again, only if you want to resell the toy in future or if you want to display the loose toy on card. Otherwise I say chuck 'em.

Keep the cards, remove the blisters. That's what I have had to do. Haven't done the rest yet though.

Yeah, what everyone else has said - throw away the blister and keep the cardback. That's what I do for the ones I open.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, it's much appreciated because as you can see:

There's quite a few there (2 wide by 2 deep), plus non-TFs, and I haven't even added my 3 acquisitions from yesterday to that lot. :p

I do the same. The name tags I think are nice to keep too, particularly those with character art on them.

I think that having the box would attract a bit more money (but not much), but the difference between having the blister or not would not make much difference.

I went on a spree about a year ago or just earlier - I was keeping blister on card on everything. Then I decided to remove the blister and keep the card, instructions and the name tag thing on American items. A lot easier to store.

Can't do the same for Japanese items though.

Yeah, turf the unremarkable plastic prison. Backing Cards make nice display pieces on their own.

However, take the Rocky Bubble plastic that came on the 1st run Beast Wars figures for example. I bought some figures that came with packaging and some came with the rocky bubble blister, and I've kept it.

Why? Well because of the novelty and because it was a major shift in packaging after that 1st line.

So if the blister is in some way special or meaningful to you, keep it. If not, well, you know what to do.

Yeah, with the newer toys just keep the backing cards I reckon. Unless it's anything TFA of course, in which case, don't chuck annnnnythiiiiiiing!

That's what I do too. With the newer toys, I just cannot be bothered to keep the blister although I must say that if sliced properly with a pen-knife (ie: 2 sides and bottom, but the top of the blister still attached), even US toys can be 'repackaged' and look MOC.

I did that with alot of the newer figures, but they just take up too much room, so I decided to start cutting the bubble completely off.

Observations:

Since I've started collecting, my figure liberation techniques have improved immensely.
There is a lot more paperwork than what I thought!
The Classics style packaging's shape is a pain in the arse.
HasTakTom need to consider a universal form of folding Instructions!
I need to buy some plastic tub shelving for my cupboard. :p
This is a far, far more sensible way of storing packaging. ;):D

Again, many thanks to everyone who put forward their opinion and I hope others that read this thread find it useful in some way. :)

Definitely looks much better mate...but you might want to keep some of those paper inserts still sitting in the bubbles for the stuff you're binning. ;)

Turf the lot, it's rubbish the second the toy comes out.

I have thrown away several blisters but I am still packed with G1 and Japanese boxes which are too cool to throw out.

After advise from Krayt, I take the bit of cardboard out that lies in between the blister and save that too. Especially for Animated per se.

Hasbro Tech spechs aren't worth saving these days, I'd send the lot to the recyle bin when it comes to new stuff. Some of the old packaging and Japanese stuff is worth keeping sans blister though, the blister adds nothing but space.

Hmmm I'm starting to get this problem a bit, at the moment I'm keeping everything under my bed... Needless to say if things keeping going the way they are I'm going to need a bigger bed lol

Strange that I'm actually reluctant to chuck out what is in essence a piece of plastic, I think for the moment I'll probably chuck out the less important blisters like the ones for my PCCs, should clear up some space for now but eventually I'll need to chuck out all of them I guess. :(

Aawww, so cute... I used to keep my Transformers under my bed in 1985-86. In 1987 I started displaying them on top of chest drawers, cupboards etc. It wasn't until 1988 that I started using a bookshelf. :) The great thing about having them under the bed is that when you're lying on your tummy playing with the toys you don't have to necessarily get up to get another toy (mmm... so lazy... <drool>)

Just chuck 'em dude. Especially Hasbro blisters - they can't be reattached to the card so there's just no point in keeping them since you can't put the toy back on card (unlike TakaraTOMY carded TFs... but even then I'm finding now that I chuck out a lot of their blisters too... just don't have the room!)
