Decals should do the trick, mate.
You should be able to pick up printable decals at a local hobby store, then just make the image on your computer and using a colour printer, just print it directly onto the decal.

Any tips on how to remove unwanted paint
Your best bet is to lightly sand with a high grit sand paper. (you really just want to scuff the surface to prep it for paint)
Always start with a primer, which will get your toy all the one colour that you'll be starting off with anyway.
Tamiya sells good primer (in aerosol cans), either their grey or white stuff is good and always remember to wear proper safety gear when working with paints like that :)
You can also try isopropyl alcohol to remove paint. Bunnings should have some. It's a spray but I usually dip cotton buds into it and use them to remove paint.

so have nearly broke his yellow forarm trying to remove the pin. Its one of those with the large end. Any tips on how to remove these and the ones in the wheels
nice, try a soldering iron. should be a tutorial some where on here.
So heres where i'm at need to switch out wheels and spoiler from DS. Paint spoiler forarms and thighs black. Engine cover yellow and front end yellow plus racing strips. Thinking of adding some silver to head
