On a related note, the Platinum Trypticon has a shelf-tag of $300 in-store, but online it is still at the original $400 price. I'm not sure why it is different. Maybe they dropped the price to get it moving, but haven't yet updated the website price.

Yes, there might still be some cheaper options, particularly used ones, but $100 is within range of importing... and it gives you the ability to exchange it if it is defective.
