Excellent! - I just think it's a really excellent reuse of a character model that swaps allegiances quite effectively. ;):)
LOL :p:D
Really man? - You'd miss out on what looks to be an excellent figure & interpretation of a character, based solely on the composition of its tyres? :o:confused:
My experience with MP Lambor has made me a bit wary of MP Autobot Cars now... I sincerely hope that they will be a lot better though... I'll decide after I get them. :o
While the composition the tyres don't personally bother me so much, I can understand why some people might be put off by them, especially given the rather hefty price tag of Prowl and Streak. They're almost the same price as Binaltechs, but BTs have rubber tyres, die-cast metal and arguably more impressive engineering as highly detailed scale miniature cars. BTs packed amazing amounts of value for what you paid... whereas I find MP Lambor was only just worth the preorder discount price, and not even worth full RRP. :o
Yeah, but I'm still not sure if I'd like it as much as a proper G1 accurate Barricade though. Because to me, the Masterpiece line is meant to be about recreating the original versions of G1 characters, and using modern engineering to 'update' them at a high end level, and also make them look more like their cartoon model. Now of course, Barricade didn't appear in the cartoon, but they could make an MP Barricade more accurate to his card/tech specs art. :) I personally would rather see MPs redecoed as stuff that already exists in G1 canon over giving preference to 'fanon'. :o JMHO. :)
We're also talking about 2 totally different economical periods though and, IMO, the BTs/Alternators might've had Die-cast & Rubber but also had noticeably poorer engineering and articulation.
The BTs/Alternators always struck me as a line of accurate scale model cars that just happened to transform into robots; conversely the current iteration of the MP line is clearly aiming for an accurate composite of both show & toy character models, along with Fun & Manageable transformations - they're streamlined, articulate & lively figures in comparison. ;):)
So yeah, my point wasn't aiming to question people's willingness to pay the price for the MP figures but rather how a singular minute facet of a figure (Such as tyre composition) could deter someone entirely, especially in the face of everything else that the figure does so right/well.
So you would say that these feelings extended to both Tigertracks & Acid Storm then? :)Quote:

See now Size is something I can accept a little easier, as it's something that I know that can really lead someone to question the validity of the toy's overall worth - It's a more outstanding facet IMO.
(Baring in mind too prior research to the purchase of the figure, not saying you didn't but it's a factor I feel can be overlooked ;):))
Sure, both BTs and MPs are aiming at achieving different outcomes, but I find BTs to be better engineered. Let's compare BT and MP Lambor... BT Lambor is just as articulated as MP Lambor and he's bigger and bulkier too. BT Lambor's robot mode is also better constructed as he doesn't suffer from significant flaws like MP Lambor's shoulders being incapable of firmly locking into place... BT Lambor doesn't have parts popping out during play, and he can swing his legs forward without flashing his crotch at you. ;) The incorporation of the engine as the gun was clever, whereas MP Lambor's weapons really aren't incorporated into the vehicle mode. BT Lambor's vehicle mode is a near-perfect scale replica of a Dodge Viper... reflective wing mirrors, rack and pin steering, highly detailed interior with air con vents, steering wheel, gear stick, park brake, glovebox panel, airbag panels, door details, odometers/dashboard displays etc. Then you can flip up the bonnet and see the engine detail, and the boot opens too. MP Lambor's vehicle mode offers no more play value than G1 Sideswipe... only bigger. One might even argue that G1 Sideswipe's vehicle offers better features since it has rubber tyres, die cast metal parts, clear windows and a (Diaclone) driver's seat.
Now of course, to be fair to MP Lambor, it is true that aside from the different design objective, it also had a greater design challenge. BTs are designed to be toys in their own right with a distinguishable likeness to the G1 characters, but they weren't attempting to accurately mimic/imitate the G1 character's entire likeness - and worse still, their Floro Dery-based cartoon likeness... whose simplified designs make it an even greater design challenge. So in order to mimic all the "cheats" that the cartoon models do, the robot parts have to go somewhere in vehicle mode, and there's no where else to go but inside the vehicle. This makes it impractical (impossible) to give it a highly detailed interior like a BT, and giving it clear windows might have made it look unsightly. I don't dislike MP Lambor per se, but he is my least liked MP. I would actually like this toy a whole lot more if it weren't for the problem with the shoulders. :o
I intentionally skipped Universe Tankor because I couldn't stand the name. I later got Henkei Octane instead. ;)
No, but these characters already exist in the G1 Continuity Family, and their colours harken back to stuff from the 80s -- Tigertrack is a reissue of Sideswipe in one of his Diaclone colours, and Acid Storm is based on a character who appeared in Season 1 of the G1 cartoon. They're not necessarily stuff that fans just pulled out of thin air. As I said on another thread, I wouldn't mind seeing MP Lambor being redecoed as MP Deep Cover and Clampdown, and I'd love to see an MP "Blizzard Storm." :) But I've never been massively fond of G1 characters repainted in movie colours*, nor movie characters redecoed in G1 colours**. :o
-----------------------------------------------
*Except for Ironhide, but it's really because they happen to be his Diaclone colours.
**Except for G1 coloured movieverse "Rescue" Ratchet, but also because we do actually see the same kind of emergency vehicle in the first movie in that colour scheme (it's the scene where Lennox and his men have just returned to the U.S. and disembark from their plane, if you look in the background there's a G1 Ratchet coloured movie-Ratchet vehicle).
@Gok
I don't own BT Lambor, but looking at the google images... he looks crap, in robot mode. the car looks amazing but when transformed i want to throw it in the bin. the ugly panels all over behind him, those huge wheels on his shoulders and the front windscreen over his crotch... this is not aesthetically pleasing.
i actually play with MP Lambor more than Soundwave. he's smaller and is very easy to transform back and forth and i see what you have pointed out about his shoulders, but the ones on mine are quite tight and i don't have a problem manipulating his forearms into desired poses without the popping out issue.
I would point it out as a manufacturing defect as we know Laserbeak has huge issues with the tail fins.
honestly the only thing I fault MP Lambor is the wheels and lack of jetpack.
Here's a good review of BT Lambor. :)
