Very good price. I think I paid $220 from PC?

Trying to figure out whether to get UW Defensor or not.
No matter where I get him from it seems that he will be over $200AU before shipping which is a helluva lot  It's the reason I cancelled my preorder with BBTS. I dont mind paying that for Devastator who is made up of 6 Voyagers but this is 5 characters and 4 of them only deluxe sized.
On the other hand, I've got the CW and UW versions of Superion, Devastator and Menasor (so I can have the individual bots displayed as well as the combined modes) so it would seem odd for Defensor to be left out.
Any advice?
In that case then, I'd say that the decision has already been made :)
Heh - well I figured out I spent $25 a day on smokes and I haven't smoked for 4 days so that's $100 saved right there. If I can go another week that's the cost of Defensor plus postage so maybe I'll treat myself then :D
So I'm at the point of my collection where I'm having a internal debate if I need to have both Hasbro and Takara Tomy versions of a particular toy. Than that leads into my next problem if I should just collect only Hasbro or Takara Tomy. Right now I want to collect only Takara Tomy and purge my complete Hasbro collection but I don't want to look back at it with regret. Has anybody had this feeling before and can you give me advice on how you handled it?
I rarely collect more than one version of the same toy. When it comes to Hasbro vs. TakaraTOMY, I just pick/choose which one I want. I don't see the need to go totally Hasbro or totally TakaraTOMY. I recommend just choosing which version you prefer on a case by case basis and go with that. :) There are times when the Hasbro version is actually better than the Takara one (e.g. MP3 Starscream, RtS/United Perceptor etc.).
I'm starting to take a keen interest in 3rd party TF's. So far i've only stuck to Masterpieces and some CW Combiners because im a "purist" and it's the G1 toys that i'm attached to. The other reason is im trying to keep the spending under control because for me they're ultimately plastic toys.
But after seeing Fanstoys Dinobots lined up behind MP Optimus something snapped. They just look too good, i had to get them all.
The other holygrail for me is to own a combiner. I was never lucky enough as a kid to have one. CW is great but they're kinda simple. Devy is on the way but i think i'll have to look to 3rd party's for the more exotic combiners.
Anyways i noticed BBTS has Quantron for approx 500aud delivered. Is it worth it? Should I spoil myself? As with almost all 3P combiners he certainly looks awesome.
$500AUD is a fair price for Quantron at the moment if that includes shipping. I paid a similar price when it first came up and the dollar was a lot better (roughly $470AUD shipped). I get the feeling that BBTS and other online stores may keep it at this price for some time as nobody in their right mind would pay $430USD for it now.
I think if you're looking for a third party Devy, you can't go past Green Giant. It's on par with Quantron, and the choice between the two is personal preference.
I display my toys so I am nota boxed collector.
I always weigh up which version is best to your preference not base on what people say.
I like mp-11t over any version atm. Same goes for mp-10 hasbro as I prefer that than the takara. I don't collect both versions unless I really want it. I only made an exception to mp-10
I have TT Devy on the way. As with my CW combiners, i bought the PE upgrades and I'm planning on getting the DNA DK-01 upgrade for Devy. Its hard to say no to the upgrades because they can improve the look and articulation dramatically. Case in point PE menasor upgrade (But perhaps articulation is a downgrade in this example).
I'm always concerned with 3P QC issues hence my reluctance with 3P combiners. But as far as can i see Quantron seems fairly solid. Except the two tiny plastic pieces in the knee.
For me i see the appeal of collecting all variants like MP red bumblebee, g2 etc
But whenever there's a TT variant of a Hasbro release i find in most cases the TT improves on the Hasbro. Hence no real reason to collect both especially if the newer version isn't based on some kind of series like G2, or toy deco version.
I'd rather put the money towards 3rd party products:D
Haven't bought any of the recent upgrades only as I've skipped out on CW as I dislike the idea of the primary toy looking very incomplete without the upgrade.
Maketoys has been around for a while and has historically held great quality standards. I've bought quite a few 3P and this is how I would rank them:
1. Fansproject
2. Maketoys
3. Mastermind Creations
4. Perfect Effect
All 4 have very high standards of plastic quality - all better than the latest grades that Hasbro uses. The rankings for 2/3/4 are very close and a bit harder to differentiate - however I take into account proportions and designs which affect a toy's overall balance. For MMC, Feral Rex and Hexatron were very G1-like and slightly clunky (not a problem if that's what you like), as well as some very tough joints to move around; whilst for PE, I'm referring to the transformation for Warden, which was a bit finicky for me.
The only issue with Quantron I've read about is from fellow Ozformer, liegeprime, who had a factory construction issue (not related to quality/mould quality). I think he was given two left parts for a part of Sonic Drill's leg joint.

I tend to buy whichever I think is the nicer version, or if I don't think the difference is significant, I go for the cheaper option. I've never had a budget big enough to get one from each company so it's never been a question I've had to consider directly.
I would hesitate to get rid of one line over another just because of the point of origin.
Should I get giant from tfsource or is there a cheaper option, I handled him once last year and now I am certain he will be my next purchase
Thanks for the feedback guys.:) I've actually begun purging most of my Hasbro toys. There are some I'm keeping but most will be sold off. The biggest factor for this decision is room as I keep all boxes of my figures.
My Green Giant is currently packed up.... No place for him atm....
Thanks im going to be adding Quantron to my to buy list. I'm more worried about the structural design. In my research i see a lot of pictures of small tabs breaking on the toy where connecting pieces go, essentially ruining it.
I think these 3rd parties cater for adult collectors while Hasbro/TT probably design their toys with a younger audience in mind hence durability is more of a concern for them.
Good to know they use good quality plastics though.
I read Quantron was $250 USD during black friday sales. That seems like a bargain now. I may wait until another big sale.
I think I saw chimungmung has quantron for $329 us for those who want it.
I saw that too. BBTS has it for for around $300+50 postage so BBTS actually works out cheaper. Chimungmung over charges for postage IMO.
He seems to be on sale at a number of other places too, i wonder why.
For most people, probably price. Maketoys may have noticed this and chosen to have gone with separate parts for Guardia. It also gives them time to hammer out slight mould imperfections on the team members with trickier parts/transformations. The production process would also be less rushed.
Come to think of it, most other third party combiners are released separately.
Ah ok, I assumed chimungmung postage would be cheaper as it's closer isn't it? Whenever I've randomly added things to a cart on BBTS the postage seemed really expensive compared to my chimungmung orders.
Perhaps Smint's got quite a few items in his loot? BBTS is usually only cheaper for me after 5-7 items (I don't usually ship until its roughly $12 shipping per item).
BBTS shipping calculator quoted me $54 with tracking. So that's $354 shipped.
Chimungmung is at least $35 for shipping. So that will be about $365 shipped.
$35 shipping is not bad for Quantron but for other smaller items he charges a similar amount. 1 Fanstoys dinobot is $38.
Tony will do combined shipping but it's still ridiculously expensive. 3x Perfect Effect CW upgrade kits came to $38USD postage after $8 combined shipping discount.
I'm working on a TF crossover custom (that is, turning TFs into characters from another franchise), and I'm not sure whether to put TF faction symbols on the finished products.
I'm completely unsure which way to go. Thoughts?
One is nearly complete, I'll put up a gallery the next few days, all going well.
Official TF Crossovers (Star Wars, Marvel, Animorphs) have never had TF faction logos. I guess if the idea is for the Transformers to be non-Cybertronians, then they wouldn't have Cybertronian faction logos. If on the other hand, you want to make something like Energon Snowcat; a Cybertronian who happens to transform into a vehicle from another franchise (in this case, a G.I. Joe Snowcat), then it would make sense for that toy to have faction logos because the robot is still actually a Cybertronian whose alt mode happens to be something from another franchise. Snowcat is a Decepticon whose alt mode is a GI Joe Snowcat, but Darth Vader/Death Star is the Death Star who happens to transform into a giant mecha that resembles Darth Vader's armour.
why not do something in between.... morph a tf faction logo with whatever franchise logo you're doing?
kinda like this:

keen to see what you've done :)
I agree with the others, perhaps even just the representative logo of the characters faction or franchise entirely. I never had any star wars transformers but I'm pretty sure they had empire and rebellion logos on them where appropriate.
^This is true. e.g. Obi-Wan Kenobi/Jedi Starfighter toys only have Republic logos on it, no Autobot or other Cybertronian logos.
Having said that, the idea of a hybrid logo is pretty neat too. It all depends on the intention of the story behind the toy; are they intended to just be unliving piloted mecha (as Star Wars TFs are), or are they meant to be living Cybertronians who have disguised themselves in the universe of another franchise? (as GI Joe/TFs are in the comics)
When Star Wars TFs first came out, I wrote a series of fan bios which explained that they were a group of Autobots and Decepticons who accidentally ended up in the Star Wars universe and disguised themselves as vehicles to blend in. The Autobots initially sided with the Republic and the Decepticons with the CIS and other neutrals (e.g. Mandalorians etc.). After Order 66, the Autobots realised that they'd been deceived (along with the Jedi) and survivors went and joined the Rebel Alliance. The sole exception was Strike Wing (Anakin Skywalker/Jedi Starfighter). Both Strike Wing and Guard Wing (Obi-Wan Kenobi/Jedi Starfighter) were critically wounded after the destruction of the Invisible Hand. Both were placed in CR chambers. When Anakin became Darth Vader (but before the battle of Mustafar), he had Strike Wing rebuilt as Cry Convoy* (Darth Vader/Jedi Starfighter). After the Battle of Mustafar when Vader was rebuilt as a cyborg, Strike Wing was also rebuilt with his TIE Advanced alt mode. Guard Wing was later restored by Jedi sympathisers and told to flee Coruscant as Cry Convoy was helping the Empire to hunt down surviving Autobots. He later came to serve the Rebel Alliance and was rebuilt with an X-Wing alt mode (Luke Skywalker/X-Wing). Hey, I never said that my fanfics were any good. :p

*Written in Japanese as 暗いコンボイ (Kurai Convoy); lit. "Dark Convoy."
Thanks for your input Goktimus, Janda, BruiseLee and UltraMarginal. Your collective thoughts have helped me make up my mind. The customs will have something like faction symbols, but more suited to their franchise.
First completed figure reveal this weekend! Thanks again folks.:)
Looking forward to it:cool:
Sorry to disappoint, but I ran out of time this weekend to do the finishing touches and do a photo shoot. Hopefully the next few days!
It's a strange one. I had the idea for the custom almost immediately (you'll see why when it's revealed), but doing a Google search I couldn't find any trace of anyone doing the same thing before. Surely - SURELY - I can't be the first person to think of this idea and bring it to fruition. I'd be surprised if I am.
