I borrowed the Walking Dead Compendium from the library on Saturday, and finished the 1000+ pages by Sunday because I couldn't put it down. A really great comic and I'd highly recommend it.
Just read the Batman: The Killing Joke and am half-way through Batman: Knightfall. Even finished both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City on the PS3. Rewatched both Christopher Nolan-Batman movies recently and well, the more I spend my time in Batman Universe the more I become addicted to the Joker's personality and his views of the world.
I'm starting to like him more and more everyday. I can relate much more to him then I can to Batman.
Though I'll never go to the lengths of trying to cosplay like him (I don't even know why kids do it) I am starting to see the funnier side of life.
Who knows, maybe I'll develop a maniacal laughter and enjoy it when people I despise suffer, but then again, maybe I've been doing that all along?
Ummmm because it turns moderately looking girls into Super Hot Babes! :p
Have delved into the Ultimate Universe, and am loving it!
Began with Ultimates 3, jumped back to the beginning of Ultimate X-Men, and am now reading through Ultimatum and Ultimate Doomsday.
Just finished Batman: Knightfall and wow, just wow - Bruce Wayne is - and I cannot believe I'm going to say this - a real d!ck. And a whiny one too. I won't give too much away but reading this made me vouch for Jean Paul Valley (aka DC's Azrael) more than I ever could with Bruce.
I have to say that i'm loving the current run of X-Factor.
And the "New 52" sucks. That's all I have to say on that.
Replace Superman with action comics and yeah :)
Aside from Men of War and All-Star Western i've read them all.
Just not impressed. I liked where DC were at pre-New 52.
Yes, i'm being a stick in the mud. :p
When growing up I struggled to watch Batman: The Animated Series - I was too young, grew up in a household where English was a second language and had trouble understanding any of the themes or the clever dialogue that was being used. Back then I only wanted vivid, colorful action that the series purposely lacked. I only ended up watching bits and pieces of episodes and easily forgot what they were about.
Now, more than a decade later after I've acquired the entire series and am watching the first season and wow, it's such an AMAZINGLY show. I can see why it got its Emmy awards and why so many Batman fans highly recommend it.
And now I'm going to strongly recommend it to other Batman fans who have not seen this series yet too!
Batman Beyond and Justice League Unlimited are must watch shows almost on par with BTAS.
Superman was a great show as well
Basically anything in the DCAU is worth a watch :)
Is it me or is The Riddler the poor man's version of The Joker?
Had the opportunity to read Marvel Zombies "Christmas Carol".
Now before I started I was of the mindset that the whole Marvel Zombies thing had been done to death.
But after reading it, I was wrong. While not tied to previous Marvel Zombie stories, this one took Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and twisted it into a zombie plague. Scrooge was still the central character and was still visited by the three spirits, but of course, there was a zombie plague running rampant.
It was a good fun, read, perfect for the time of the year.
My xmas comic was the green lantern larfleeze xmas special. It was appropriately stupid. I liked how it had a recipe for agent orange cookies.
Upset that Marvel has found the need to place, in a rather large size, SAME DAY DIGITAL COPY FOR FREE plastered all over the covers.
Why not a simple card in the middle of the book, or a URL on the inside, I let slip the fact Spider Island had a friggin '#tag' on the cover, but now this?!
It's an enticing incentive to the potential buyer, to offset the additional $1 they're paying over the majority of DC titles.
It's a sales pitch.
Putting the ad inside the book would kinda defeat the purpose (and ads do mention this).
And really, it's still a MILE better than the Marvel ads in the 80's that had stuff like a third of the cover taken up with the 'Win A Bike At Toys R Us' etc. One of those annoys the hell out of me as it's on one of the key Dark Phoenix Saga issues, issue 137. 'THIS COMIC COULD BE WORTH $2500 TO YOU. BUGGER THE ART, THIS IS AN AD, BITCHES'.
This is far less obtrusive, and is good promotional tool for a flexible market, and value proposition for the customer (even though Marvel even admitted it doesn't need to charge $3.99 in the first place).
It could be far worse. ;)
ugh 90s comic adverts pissed me off as a kid. Always advertised toys and games we couldn't get here!
I would buy hardcovers of the years best covers, 500 pages, no logos, no ads, i'd be happy.
When it comes to comic books, this pic shows I'm clearly a Marvel guy.

I've finally got some room and some cases to have them on show and let me really get a good idea of what I've got. So I thought I'd share.
This is about 95% of my collection of trades, missing my Marvel Essentials volumes, my Sailormoon manga, a couple more tpbs and the three long boxes of floppies (and of course my TF comic book collection).
That's a hell of a collection there Paulbot, considering you have off loaded a tone too in your sales!
I had these arrive today, I'm really glad that they're also the revised versions that re-instate the omitted material too! :D
I've read Ghost In The Shell 2 roughly 5 times, even with the creators text at the bottom, I am lost as to what the hell I read.
And then...all the...ummmmmm... other things that happen in it....:confused:
I've only just recently started purchasing the regular monthly releases of a few comics series, Transformers and Batman, and was just wondering how people store theirs. Mine are just stacking up atm, but I would prefer to have them a bit more protected.
TPBs and hardcovers are easy as they just sit on the bookshelf. I guess my monthlies could as well, if jammed between two bookends or the like.
Your comic store will have the best method - bags and boards. (Just make sure you get the right size bags. There's different ones for older larger comics etc. Ask your comic store, they'll give you the right ones)
The bags and boards are acid-free, so they'll keep them in good shape. It also means you can't accidentally crease/tear them in a pile.
Then you can buy special cardboard boxes (again, your comic store should have these) which fit a couple of hundred of comics in. They're in two sizes - small and large. I prefer the small, but YMMV.
Altogether = perfect.
You'll find you have a lot more space, and that it's now so much more convenient to find a certain issue than digging through a jenga-style stack of unsorted comics.
Thanks for that Cat, those sound just like the sort of storage solutions I'm looking for.
If anyone from the city of churches is reading this, would love to hear where you shop for you comic book supplies. The store I get mine from is pretty small and is essentially just comics, so don't like my chances of him carrying the items Cat has mentioned.
I'll have a look next time I'm there though.
I'm lazy and cheap so I don't use the boards. I just put two comics in the same bag (one facing front, one facing back). This saves me money (I only need half the number of bags and no boards) and two comics gives it enough firmness for my liking.
Wasn't too sure where I should put this, so...

Here it is; the printed front cover of that comic I've been talking about for the past few weeks. Needless to say, OTCAers get the very first look as promised.
Even better in colour!
Kudos. Here's the larger cover and part 1 of the press release:

After earlier this year rdeucing my trade collection, I'm now slashing and burning my comic book collection. I'm almost all the way through it and there's a lot in the purge pile. As a benefit I have the best inventory of my comics I've had in a very long time.
The core X-Men books (and most of my Transformers titles naturally) are the only ones getting a free pass. I may need a second even more ruthless go through on them when I'm done on the first pass.
I checked my Comixology account and found I'm up to 266 digital comics and counting. That format has won me over for new comics (like the TF ones) that I can't wait for the trade for. Many of my comics have been in my long boxes for years. I reread my trades paperbacks, but I don't tend to revisit the individual comics anymore.
I'd prefer to upgrade as many comics for collected versions were I can. They are just more appealing to read to me now for the stories I really like. After reading some websites I've even been thinking a lot lately about comic binding. I've looked at some local companies that might be able to help, but would have to consider it against quotes. Anyone else looked at this?
I just pirate singles and buy the trades i like.
