Why not just get the trade and not support pirates? It's called waiting for the trade for a reason.

I recall when I was very young my library having some bound issues of the Incredible Hulk (but you couldn't borrow it).
I stumbled across that link a little while ago and liked the idea for the books that haven't been reprinted.
My individual (nonTF) comics look to be down to just over one long box. Primarily Uncanny X-Men (and Classic X-Men) and (adjectiveless) X-Men, with X-Treme X-Men, Age of Apocalypse, Claremont's Fantastic Four Run, about 10 each of X-Factor, New Mutants, X-Force, Generation X, TMNT adventures, and a few other random books.
Looks like a much more manageable and focused collection now. :)
Hey Paubot, what are you thoughts on Marvel now having the front and back covers now printed on the same paper as the interior pages?
Such a bad move, I will be collecting trades from now on, also, like you, because I dont and wont really revisit single issues and am likely to read 'em again!
I guess Marvel are pushing for the digital age. I was flicking through my gf's AvX issues, and seeing that 'AR' augmented reality symbol on almost every friggin' page WTF?!
For Marvel's books I made the switch to TPBs back around 2003/4 so I haven't seen that but I've read about. It was about then that everything Marvel produced appeared was been collected and it's only been the odd issue I've bought since then.
AvX is just poorly written and that is truly depressing for an event that is crucial to tie up loose ends, provide some kind of resolution for the past 4-5 years etc.
It seems the artist and writers just have no passion about it what so ever - with JRJR phoned in art, comments like Hickmans 'yeah last time we saw Hope, she was running out of an electronics store, but now she has jet plane, and Im not sure what issue, if at all, that got covered in, it keeps getting bigger and bigger and only the editors can keep track of it all.'
I'm probably going to offend a number of people with this :p, but I picked this up a little over a month ago for $20 at Big W:

Spider-man is my favourite Super Hero :D:cool:, but I'm ashamed to say that most of my knowledge of him comes from the 90s Cartoon show :o; I'd very much like to start reading some actual comics and have been recommended the "Maximum Carnage" Arc thanks to Bartrim ;):), but sadly and annoyingly I've got an ever increasing list of Books that I own but have yet to read and fear that any Spider-man reading would likely be a long ways off. :(
hmmm can't recall if I ever posted any comics here but anyways...
a few years ago I was lucky enough to find this limited edition one shot comics with signatures from the creative theme at Kings Comics in the city. I have previously read this from a copy of my friend and really had a blast and a lot of laughs reading it but since it was a one shot out of production comics I didn't pursue getting it - even tif there was ebay - I thought, naaah , not a priority.

but, a few weeks ago I saw 2 more alternate covers of the same 1 shot comics in my local PZ (no sigs this time) so I was uuming and ahhing if I should get it since I wanted to give it a copy to my friend who is massive comics collector back in Philippines - he's read my copy and really enjoyed it while he was visiting here. Didint get it til like a wekk ago when I thought - it would be a nice present since he did say he wants one but since it was out of prod already and he doesnt like ebay so since there was 2 more at PZ I thought what luck - coz I want an extra copy so I can keep the signed one pristine.
so here we are now

I'm keeping the one in the right :D
The X-Men have managed to sit out most of the big Marvel crossovers (except for the odd tie-in miniseries) but obviously not this one. I'm not hearing much good about the main story, although some of the tie-ins are okay, just a mess of continuity.
It annoys me that this new status quo change comes just a year after the last one (Schism). I'm generally sick of Marvel's yearly events though.
I saw that book the other day and thought it looked pretty good. I was trying to think of what Spider-Man's stories to recommend. I liked the recent "Spider-Island" story (so much so I'm using a pic from it as my facebook photo at the moment), and apparently Amazing Spider-Man's been quite good since Dan Slott took over as sole author.
I do recommend the original Ultimate Spider-Man series. I didn't like the ending (tied into a big dumb Ultimate Universe crossover) but it was a book I always looked forward to getting the next trade of.
I am a fan of the spidey run that Joe Michael Straczynski (JMS) did.
Spider-Island was pretty cool and it has gotten alot better since Dan Slott took over even got to meet him and sign one of my comics :D
Many thanks guys for your suggestions, as you're both people who know their stuff rather well to my understanding. ;)
So the trades I should be looking to add to my short-list are:
- Maximum Carnage
- Spider-Island
- (Original) Ultimate Spider-man
@Loophole: What would you recommend specifically from Joe Michael Straczynski (JMS) dude? :)
Spiderman - The Other was marvelous! They retconned it, but it was the most brutal, horrifying deeply moving Spiderman comic I've ever read.
Or you could just check out Clone Saga :D
That was sarcasm.... People have therapy to forget that.
oh yeah "the other" that was pretty good good especially the lead up to it with Morlun there is this one panel that will always stand out in my mind and is slightly cringe worthy at the same time great stuff!!
all of his amazing spiderman work!! more so the later stuff where Ezekiel was introduced and the Civil War period. I have always been a fan of Babylon 5 which is a great show, i also hear that his run on Thor was quite good and hopefully i'll get around to reading it one day
Don't overlook the new ultimate spidey, it's awesome.
I don't get the "invisibility power" of the new Ultimate Spider-Man.
Hursticon, as much as I love Ultimate Spider-Man it's not "the real" Spider-Man, but that does make it a much more self-contained story than the 50 years of the real Spider-Man.
I was looking at trades at the comic store. The Marvel Knights Spider-Man by Mark Millar is not bad, a self-contained story (but I didn't much care for the art).
Loophole do you include "Sins Past" in the good of J. Michael Straczynski's run? That was pretty controversial.
I found it interesting, it also gave Norman Osborn a bigger dont F&*% with me as he is evil bast&*# reputation. I think some fans didnt like that Gwens innocence was taken away, i just wished that they developed the new characters more they could of taken them in very interesting directions but they sort of got forgotten about.
My latest big comic purchases: X-Men Claremont/Lee Omnibus Vol 1 & 2 and Fatal Attractions Omnibus. (I blame STL for convincing me to upsize).
http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5...guy1o1_500.jpg
Collecting the era where I started reading X-Men (not a coincidence that it was just after Transformers finished). Vol 1 wasn't really necessary since that was before I started, but I thought may as well have the pair.
Just need the Bishop and Wedding books coming later this year to complete my shelf. (Shame the Wedding book is a trade paperback not an oversized hardcover though.)
I have all of those, and all the other X-Men related OHCs/omni's they've put out.
I was disappointed that Bloodties was an MPC instead. Puts it out of place than all the other ones.
You going to get (or maybe you already have) the two that circle around those omni/OHCs you just showed?
X-Tinction Agenda and X-Cutioner's Song? (Bloodties is kinda optional, as it's straight after Fatal Attractions)
I actually got a lot of this stuff bound a few years ago.
Out of the 3 volumes I made, 2 are now pretty much obsolete, and replaced by the new ones. Ah well. I'd always hoped for official nice editions like this.
The third was adjectiveless 27-53 (pre-Onslaught, maybe 50), so it hasn't been neutered yet. I'd love to though, nicer paper for most.
Yes I got X-Cutioner's Song a few weeks ago, which led me to buying these.
The quality is really nice, but I do wish they'd used the opportunity to fix some of the colour mistakse from the originals.
I am deliberating on X-Tinction Agenda. The first trade I ever purchased was X-Tinction Agenda back in 199 or 94 or so so I already have it collected. And it was just reprinted in full (without subplot pages removed and in greyscale) in Essential X-Men #10 too.
I wouldn't have any doubt if it wasn't for the art. Jim Lee's issues are wonderful, and Rob Liefeld's are okay, but Jon Bogdanove's X-Factor issues are awful and not helped by having flat colouring and a style so out of place with the "Image" look.
I never read the Avengers & West Cost chapters of Bloodties so that's low on my list.
Going to PM you about the binding.
Yep, I have that same X-Tinction trade. (I have all the old ones, plus the issues mostly, so it's nice to update them with these beautiful OHC's).
I was so happy with the OHC. Everything looks beautiful, it's nice and over-sized. I didn't feel I'd doubled up. YMMV, of course.
Seeing I mentioned my custom volumes, I'd figure I'd share the pics I took of them when they first arrived, in case anyone's curious.

Melbourne comic fans, I'm selling over 500 of my comics. If you're interested in looking through the list let me know and I'll PM you a link.
</Shameless plug> :o
So playing through Batman: Arkham City, when it comes to the Demon Trial it's stated "Only one man has passed this ordeal". Is it known who it is referring to? I assume it's not actually Ra's...
I figured it meant Ra's, for Batman to do it to meant he was an equal adversary. (I hated that part of the game though :o) Not sure who else it could be.
The link's over here now.
Yep. The flying moves for some of the Riddler trophies were hard too, but doable, but had to give up on the advanced training. I think there were two of those I just couldn't do. The one through the tunnel to the steel works for sure, and I think one on the other side of the city.
Has anyone been reading the AvX stuff at all?? What do u think of it..
I am finding it a real bore to read through not to mention it jumps all over the place. I don't want to buy every issue of marvel to enjoy the story. But i think that is what u need to do.. At this moment I am hoping Frank Castle rides in and puts a few people down to finish the story....
There was a good couple of parts where spidey had a chance to shine tho...
I had a long wait to read AvX. I ordered the hardcover back in April to get 33% off, and it's now arrived. I was following the story through reviews and previews and bought issue 12 to see what the conclusion would be without spoilers.
The hardcover is a nice package and flicking through I do like the bright artwork but I don't have a lot of faith in the story. It's also a nice touch that it comes with a code to download the book via Comixology.
I like that they left the extra "Vs" series as a backup rather than trying to put those issues in the middle of the main 12 parter. There's another "companion" hardcover for all the crossovers but I don't feel the need to get that.
Overall, I'm more interested in the Now series. I like the new status quo for the X-Men's Extinction Team. Schism seemed really forced and I didn't like it, but this outcome is good just took a bit too long to get to. The "All New X-Men" series looks good too. I'm currently in no rush to read the Wolverine/Uncanny series between Schism and AvsX, and happy to jump back in with this NOW relaunch.
Where is a good place to buy Trades online?
I've been buying all my trades from Bookdepository for the last two-three years.
I'm seeing lots of good comments about the new series Saga. Anyone reading it?
I'm also hearing lots of great things about Hawkeye as well and am probably going to buy the first trade due out in a couple of months.
I've been reading All New X-Men and the first story arc just finished (they rushed out the five issues over a few weeks) and overall I like the series so far. Was a bit concerned about what Bendis would be like on the X-books but so far I like it, a few minor issues aside.
I read the first 3 issues of Saga... found it to weird for my tastes but I can see why people like it. I'm a big fan of the writer but the world/setting/weirdness didn't work for me.
Hawkeye has been pretty good if you can get past the almost retro style of art. I'd say picking up the first trade is a good idea... you'll either love it or just think it's ok.
All New X-Men has been better than I expected... was a bit worried about Bendis but I've enjoyed the crap out of it so far.
Has anyone been reading the marvel NOW! "not a reboot but a reboot" stuff??
out of most of the titles, (sorry i just cant get into X-titles anymore and havent read many of them) Thor: God of Thunder has impressed me the most.
Thunderbolts i also enjoy, something about the team is just brilliant, although i would like to see frank shoot wade on a regular basis...you know just because...Flash "Venom" Thompson seems to be the odd one out a little compared to the rest of the line up
Iron man is so so but 5 issues in the space of 2 months made it loose some appeal,
avengers i really didnt think it needed changing but for the time beong is so/so and that is all of them out so far
Superior Spider-Man.........anyone read this.... i mean first encounter spidey has with Dr Strange and it should all be over... i like spidey but why do they need to keep dishing him crap stories.....
Deadpool....Sucks... sorry DP but your old book was much more entertaining then the current drivel your dishing out and then you release Deadpool: Killistrated
What is everyone (if anyone) else think???
I was interested in checking out Uncanny Avengers, but a mind control story straight away has me less interested. Plus it seems to ignore all the work put into Rogue over the past few years in X-Men Legacy.
FF looks quite fun but otherwise I'm not venturing too far from my X-Men corner at the moment.
Re: your comment about Doctor Strange, the Superior Spider-Man has already come across one of the most powerful telepaths in the world and bluffed his way out of it. I liked this comment on the ridiculousness of it in another blog:
Quote:
But no, in a world that was invaded by shape shifters a few days ago Marvel time, the cagey guy acting out of character can totally talk members of the most possessed sueprteam in the world into taking his increasingly agitated word for it that he’s legit.
