"I was saying Boo-Urns" Hans Moleman :D

News.com.au is running a headline today of "Adam Goodes has won only 11 free kicks this season, is the perception really a reality?" and invited feedback on the article however they seem not to be posting any of the responses (which you can be guaranteed they'd be more than a few).
I hardly ever post replies to news articles as it seems like 'feeding the trolls' but I felt compelled to in this case as it appears as though a) everyone is being painted with the same broad-brush of racism and b) it's clear the author of this article has no clue what he is talking about and whose only aim is to bait a response from people by trying to be controversial.
Here was my reply -
"This article is overlooking one important point - staging for free kicks does not necessarily translate to GETTING a free kick. It's the theatrics that people are over. Does every soccer player that takes a dive get awarded a free kick? No. You're clutching at straws now trying to prove that the majority of the footy going public is racist. Maybe YOU should look within and stop trying to incite hatred when the fact is being an idiot has nothing to do with race."
It's not often that I agree with Alan Jones, but it's clear that Adam Goodes is intent on playing the victim in all this by declaring that he may walk away from the game. Good riddance I say.
Come on man, I've been going to the footy for over 30 years and it's something that's always gone on at the games. Surely you can't be that old ;) :p A grown-up 'booing' does look a little strange I'll give you that :)
I totally agree with this. It feels utterly uncivilised. If you don't like a certain player or the opposing team, then just politely shut up. Fans should be focusing on cheering and supporting their own team and just leave the opposition alone. The stupid thing about bullying the opposition is:
a/ It's bullying. Are these fans grown adults? What example are they setting for children? Would we accept this kind of behaviour from children at a kids' match? If not, why is it acceptable for adults to do this at the professional level. And bullying shouldn't be tolerated in any form, verbal, psychological, physical etc. There is just no place for it in society.
b/ It's unsportsmanlike. You hate the opposition? Guess what? There would be NO game without the opposition! You need an opposing side in order to have a match! Good luck playing one without it. Again, I think it's important that adults also role model good sportsmanlike behaviour and spirit to children.
Aren't these games meant to be family-friendly events? Because if adults are allowed to cavort around like immature thugs, then how does that create a family-friendly atmosphere? I attended a football (A-League) match years ago and saw adults swearing despite the fact that there were c h i l d r e n in the audience. I ended up reporting them to staff.
Could you imagine this happening outside of football codes?
e.g.
* Other sports like tennis, golf or surfing etc.
* Other forms of non-sport fandom. There can be some mischievous faux-animosity at these events; e.g. when I saw the premiere of Star Wars III Revenge of the Sith, there was a dude who came along to the line wearing a Starfleet uniform, and walked up and down giving us the Vulcan Salute. People booed him and eventually a bunch of people dressed as Jedi & Sith chased him and playfully beat him up with toy light sabres. But it was all done as a spontaneous joke, there was no real harm done -- and quite frankly, this was a midnight premiere, so there were only adults there anyway. :p But could you imagine if, when Star Wars Episode VII comes out, if Trek fans came along and started hurling verbal abuse? Or if Marvel fans came along to screenings of Dawn of Justice and started abusing DC fans? Or if DC fans came along and abused Marvel fans at Ant-Man? WHO DOES THAT?!? And if they did, we'd consider them to be complete idiots and utterly condemn that behaviour.
If we as a society cannot even tolerate other people's differences in supporting different sports teams, how can we be expected to tolerate other differences such as culture, values, religion, sexual preference etc.?? Intolerance is just ugly in any form.
Come to sports events to cheer, not jeer.
My 2c. :p
some people just don't like Adam Goodes or South Melbourne football club
if an opposing team comes to my teams home ground and does something I don't like I will boo them.. if I go to an opposition home ground and they do something I don't like i boo them harder....
Better to boo a dirty player or cheat than for grown men and women to heckle and threaten junior referees. -edit- not meant to imply that Goodes is a dirty player or cheat, but I'll boo Josh Reynolds or Ennis or the convicted drug cheat captain of NSW! Goodes may milk penalties but never had he done anything to cop what he had the last few weeks from idiots.
I think if every parent and first grade football/ netball / whatever player had to officiate one game per season maybe they'd pull their heads in a bit and stop being such idiots at junior and non professional sport.
Refs at elite levels are a different story if they get paid such high wages as a full time professional and still cannot get anything right...
I have to agree with what a radio announcer on MMM said this evening "it's odd that we defend and have sympathy for a footy player missing games due to being under investigation for domestic violence burnt Adam Goodes is apparently a sook."
If you get booed for staging free kicks, imagine what a game of soccer would be like. :p
NRL ELITE Footy cards hit this week wooooooooo
always think its to late in the season....
