Thinking of getting a new laptop soon, one for non-extreme gaming. What's a good brand and good model? I've had bad experiences with HP and Acer and mediocre experiences with Dell and Toshiba (I have a Toshi M200 Satellite Pro right now).

Just after a little advice. Upgrading (or downgrading depend on you POV)
to a PS3 from xbox360, and for personal reasons won't have net access for the next 2 months (which will kill me).
Can the console as is straight from the box, play AVI, MPEG etc or will I need to acquire certain codecs??

PS3 can play data (.avi, mpeg) files from disc, as well as region 1 DVDs (not sure about other regions).Quote:

Just adding to what trunks said, the PS3 can also play .avi and mpeg files using one of the USB controller ports at the front. There is no need for additional codecs.
I've only ever had a problem with some .avi's that would play on my PC, but it's very rare and most media players (I have a WD one) wouldn't play it either.

I asked as when I first acquired my 360, it needed to go online to download the additional codecs for AVI's etc.
I got a PS3 last weekend and I am so in love with it, nothing but praise. It's brilliant.
Just upgraded my PSP firmware so I can play the games I bought without having to rip them to the memory card.. Mainly for the Black Rock Shooter game I just got.
I am not too sure whether it is showing its age now, or from sloppy programming, but the games using 3-D worlds, just don't seem to really look all that flash...
BRS is interesting, but mainly corridor levels. Kind of washed out graphics as well...
