Avengers Character Appearance Spoiler Ahead (although nothing that isn't shown in trailers)






My only qualm with the film -- and let me disclaim by saying that I totally recognise that it's an introverted biased nerdy fanboy qualm and not at all a proper criticism of the film -- is that they made Quicksilver a distinctly separate character from Quicksilver in X-Men Days of Future Past. Yeah yeah, I know that they're different studios/continuities, but still... I would've preferred it if they could somehow interconnect, or at very least, avoid direct contradiction. Marvel are allowed to use Sony characters so long as they don't directly refer to their films' events (e.g. origin stories) and vice versa. Although given that Quicksilver was a teenager in 1973... :o

That is because they didn't want Marvel Universe and X-Men Universe mixing

I saw Age of Ultron and it was pretty good. I think the humor was a lot better than the first film's and some of the indications of the coming together of various films were excellent.

I know that this is crying over spilt milk, but it still kinda irks me that Peter Jackson decided to change the actor for Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit trilogy. The One Ring gave Bilbo unnatural long life, and when Gandalf first meets Bilbo in The Fellowship of the Ring, he says, "You haven't aged a day." I was really expecting Ian Holm to reprise the role of Bilbo Baggins in those films. Certainly would've made more sense than shoe-horning those elves into them! :p

The missus and I went and saw Avengers 2. Its the first time ive gotten to the flicks since The Lego Movie and its the first time she has been since the first Avengers when we were on holiday in Brisbane. Like many of you we really enjoyed it! My fav part was Hulk vs Iron Man and she really liked Ultron since we are both big fans of James Spader :)

Yeah and he was brilliant in Boston Legal and what he is current doing in The Blacklist is very good too :)


I never watched the last King Kong movie and it's currently playing. I've missed the first half but I just flipped over to see Kong fighting 3 T-Rex! Dont know what the rest of the flick is like but that was cool!

Anyone seen the Ukrainian film The Tribe? Was showing at ACMI until Sunday. It's entirely in Ukrainian sign language with no voice-over/subtitles/translation of any kind. It's a pretty brutal, demanding film and while I'm not sure I could recommend it (or even if I like it, I'm kinda conflicted) it was certainly a unique experience.

Also I've never seen so many people leave during a film, nor have I seen people faint during a film. So yeh that's a thing.

Loved the bromance between Alan Shore and Denny Crane - thought it was so cool they got married in the end :D

Just watch Madmax last night..... it a great popcorn movie , some parts are very funny..... not much of a story , very little dialogue and everyone just mumble in it:rolleyes: ....it like one long 2hr car chase !!

Also watch Ex Machina last week....a very brilliant smart sci fi drama .... recommend it for all the scifi lover as it raises very good opinion about AI and human interaction.....

I saw Fury Road on the weekend, and it was brilliant, a perfect action film. The story is simple but it's well told through images rather than dialogue. It's a big chase film but that means it doesn't slow down for a minute, and though there is little dialogue the characters are well acted and well directed enough for you to like or loathe. lost of Australian accents too.

And best of all it's epic action and not a Zach Snyder CGI fest.

Take note Hollywood this is what action films should be, not overly convoluted poorly explained, lifeless CGI fests.

I just hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as other non cookie cutter action films before it, like Dredd and Edge of Tomorrow that failed to draw the same crowds as endless terrible Transformer films, and others sequels like them.

That's why we can't have nice things.

'The Thing' is currently showing on SBS2. Not the recent remake. One of my favourite sci-fi movies.

Ironically John Carpenters 'The Thing' can loosely be called a remake of the 1950's film 'The Thing From Another World'. John Carpenters one is better though and a classic of cinema really, I haven't seen the new one, but I'm guessing I shouldn't bother.

Don't watch it. Despite that it's a prequel it's just the first movie done worse (it was a remake that was altered into a prequel, and it's obvious). Even worse is that they CGI'd over the practical effects because test audiences prefer CGI.

Honestly one of the only movies I can genuinely wish I never saw.

Was on Youtube last night when I clicked on Kung Fury, not knowing what to expect. It homages much of what everyone likes about the cheesy 80s sci-fi. 10/10!

Watched Home and Tomorrowland; both great and fun family films. Tomorrowland is also my favourite part of Disneyland (I just love Space Mountain & the Buzz Lightyear rides!) :D There are two Transformers links in Tomorrowland. Neither of these are significant plot spoilers, but for those who don't want to know anything at all, avert your eyes now!

Wished it was longer though!

Just saw tomorrowland. Impressed. Any sci buff would appreciate this movie.

Hope I could find some time to watch Tomorrowland...ican still remember how we spent half our day at Tokyo Disneyland just for the ride...

Going to see San Andreas tonight. It's been getting some pretty poor reviews but I'm under no illusion what I'm getting myself in for. I have a weak spot for disaster movies :o

Jurassic World was faun and enjoyable. Very predictable but well filmed and the actors did a good job, I didn't even hate the main children characters too much.

Without any spoilers I am interested to see where the sequels will go. Much like the first movie, it makes no sense to remain on Islar Nublar anymore.

I felt underwhelmed by Jurassic World. I guess they can't recreate the feeling from the original.

I think that's because it is more of a monster movie than Dinosaurs. It seems to go well with people who like monster movies but if you are in it for the Dinosaurs, not much for you as they still persist on 'consumer friendly' outdated Dinosaur models.

The original Jurassic Park showed us Dinosaurs that were as scientifically accurate as possible at the time (for most part). They changed the tired perspective of 'slow moving creatures that can only live in swamps' and 'tripod' Tyranosaurs. However this new movie doesn't even try to update based on new discoveries and even within the plot, it is made very clear that this is no longer about Dinosaurs but a monster movie.

In short, if you like a good monster movie, Jurassic World will do it for you. If you liked the magic of the original with as accurately portrayed dinosaurs (as possible) then you may be disappointed.

The Jurassic movies were intended as thriller/action movies weren't they?

If they were to create a movie following the Jurassic era, half the dinosaurs that have been in the 4 movies wouldn't be included? I'm no prehistoric buff, but I've heard that almost all dinosaurs had feathers on them. Raptors were no-where near the size they have been portrayed in the movies etc.

I really enjoyed the movie and was pleasantly surprised by it. Perhaps it will (hopefully) breathe a breath of fresh air into the franchise and interest in our prehistoric past the same as Bay has inspired a new generation of interest into our beloved Transformers franchise.

Monster movie or not, I believe it was very entertaining and had nice little nostalgic throwbacks to the original movie which first made us fall in love with the T-Rex, Triceratops, raptors and Brontesaurus/Brachiosaurus(?).

The 'Why is it called Jurassic Park when several Dinosaurs are from the Cretaceous period' is something that was discussed last century and not what I mean about scientific accuracy of the Dinosaurs ;)

Brontosaurus is different to Braichosaurus. Originally Brontosaurus was a dinosaur named something new but ended up being one of a pre-exisiting species, Apatosaurus. However recent studies suggest a new sub-species of Apatosaurus is Brontosaurus. It's confusing, I know!

Also regarding the 'most dinosaurs have feathers' statement for the most part only Therapod Dinosaurs (two legged carnivores, like Tyrannosaurs, Allosaurs, Spinosaurs and Raptors) had feathers, a notable exception being Psittacosaurus.

Sorry, nerd rant over.

Also I haven't seen Jurassic World yet. Apparently it's a good movie, just not a good DINOSAUR movie.

Don't even get me started on the bloody mutant dino-hybrid. (Indominus Rex)

Also somewhere in the action pose thread someone referenced Nanotyrannus, which has recently been proven to just be a younger Tyrannosaurus.

It's a great movie in my opinion.

UG, I apologise for the confusion about the "long necks" I wasn't sure which one I needed to mention. I didn't want to stir any nerd rants. Personally, the land before time is what first introduced me to Dinosaurs, thus my naive perspective on enjoying the film.

I thought my disclaimer was a bit clearer. I'm in no way up to speed on species and dino-facts.

But it's a fictitious movie building on what was known at the time of the first movie's release. Take it for what it is?

I wasn't directing that at you, sorry if it came like that. I just like showing off my up to date dinosaur knowledge. :rolleyes::p

Anyway I'm still looking forward to it despite the millions of mistakes that are going to be in it :rolleyes:

I would describe Jurassic World as satisfying. It neither exceeded my expectations or disappointed me. I think I enjoyed the first part more than the end, seeing the park open with all the dinomonsters harked back the original classic, more than the monster fight bling.

I think the tittle Jurassic World says it all.

50% Jurassic Park Nostalgia and goodness mixed with 50% Lost World (and the other JP sequel) clichés and silliness.

JW lived up to my expectations of being ok, it's pretty much what 3 should have been.
