Just spent about an hour checking out your collection Goktimus, quite impressive. I ave a friend with something similar but it filled a garage and contained other stuff like masters of the universe, biggest comic collection i have ever seen as well. I dont think he visits the forums but ill try and let him know to see if he can post up some pics. Think of the ferraris you could have brought instead , must have cost you a fair mint.
Also that devastator is quite tempting, lucky im not near a TRU atm.
Welcome aboard, the board!
there I said it. :D
one of these days I'm going to have a cool welcoming picture like some of these other guys. but at the moment you'll have to do with my dediocre humour.
sorry I'm late, looks like I missed out on some deep discussion.
While I agree that the new transformers designs are far superior in engineering to the earlier toys. I find that the earlier toys, even though much simpler and blocky, have some really nice stylings and proportions that are not always captured in modern toys.
a good example would be Starscream G1 vs Starscream Movie. the G1 toy model was very lean but looked built, I think it is very well represented in the masterpiece starscream..
anyway, look forward to seeing your collection when you finish moving. not that I can talk I'm still yet to post any significant pictures of mine.
Cheers
UM
haha awesome
I don't know if I could get a Ferrari with that money... I've been collecting Transformers continuously since 1984, so most of my collection has been purchased just from local stores like Kmart, Target, Big W, Toyworld (which no longer exists in NSW, but it did in the 80s!) etc. -- which made TF collecting relatively cheaper than say buying vintage toys today. For example the first Constructicon toy I got was Long Haul which I got in 1985 for about $7 iirc... I remember thinking it was a pretty expensive carded toy considering that the mini Autobots were like $2-3 each. There's a MOSC Long Haul going on eBay here for US$199.99!! :o So yeah, I find that I can save a lot of money just by buying Transformers when they're current from local stores rather than waiting for them to become "vintage" then paying inflated aftermarket prices for them.
All of my uncles, aunts and parents' friends knew that I loved Transformers, so Transformers was a staple gift for birthdays and Xmases. And the same applied for my brother, who lost interest in Transformers after G1 finished, so his collection got absorbed into mine :) (but I still consider them my childhood toys since I grew up playing with them) e.g.
+ MISB Skywarp: Xmas 1984
+ MISB Blue Streak: bday 1985
+ MISB Optimus Prime: brother's bday 1985
+ MISB Blaster: Xmas 1985
+ MISB Ramjet, Hot Rod, Hot Spot & Starscream: bday 1986
+ MISB Apeface & Snapdragon: Xmas 1987
+ MISB Thunderwing: brother's bday 1989
+ MOSC Bludgeon, Octopunch & Stranglehold: Xmas 1989
...and so on. And of course my brother and I would be collecting Transformers in between bdays and xmases (it's just that bdays and Xmases was when we got lots in single hits! :D)

Awesome photo, there was a pic of me in the local paper about 1990 with a few of my TF's i should see if i can find that somewhere. I think mum has it actually. I got OP for xmas or bday when he came out, every xmas i used to wish on xmas eve that i would wake up in the moring and my top bunk would be covered in transformers. Never happened for some reason
I lost all interest through my teenage years but the Reissues got me right back into it, could not believe it when i saw them in the store. I prefer to make my purchases like that as well, just around the local stores, i'm not really looking for anything i cant buy new. IN reference to the newsagents stocking TF's back in the 80's i lived in a small country town so it was really the only place that would have them and they did, also remember the local newsagent at my Grandmothers town had a whole wall with TF's and i had to be dragged out of there.
I just gave your collection a once over at lunch time but i plan on revisiting and ogling at it for a fair amount of time tonight. You should have been on the collectors or something!
Heh, The Collectors did ask me once, but I declined. Another member here (Tiby) accepted and appeared on the show. :)
Mabuhay and welcome
Thankyou, love the pics of your collection Deceptic Optic, the ones with the jets lined up in the light they are in looks mean as!
Welcome!
IMO G1 toys will always hold a special place- I don't think any other TF line should or can be compared to it. 1984/85 bots are my favorites.
If you are into g1 reissues- have you checked out the Encore line?- Asian release in 2008/09. There were some new G1 reissues such as Omega Supreme, Sky lynx, Metroplex, etc and the boxes are much more G1 like.
Having said that, while I agree Bayverse TFs are crap, don't dismiss newer TF lines so quickly- you might want to check out the Classics/Henkei/Generations/United toys if you haven't already. They are re-imaginings of the g1 characters and are awesome!
Here's some of mine:

But my pics are bad- so check out this thread that does those figures justice:

Of course there's also the masterpiece line to consider. :D
(Forgive me if you already know about these lines)
Enjoy your stay :)
