I knew a guy once that was into collecting Transformers and he told me that he had about 100. Knowing this to be BS, I called him on it and asked that he list everything. The list included t-shirts, CD's, DVD's etc :p
Not impossible, but considering that griffin has the largest known collection in this country (and I don't think even his collection would reach that under the UCM), if someone is going to claim that they have a collection size that can rival or even exceed the largest known, then I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for confirmation. And a simple PM would allow for discretion if these people don't want to be known. Just a simple PM saying something like, "Yeah, it was me, I have 55XX Transformers under the UCM."
To me this is becoming a little childish, who cares if someone says they have that many TF's when no one else on the boards knows about it. I'd hate to say it but this isn't the centre of the collecting Universe in Australia, not to mention we have foreign collectors on these boards.
Granted there are many font's of information here but some people don't give two stuffs about 90% of things that people talk about.
Just let it be, someone claims they have a collection as big or bigger than someone else on here, so what! Its doesn't change a thing. The second before the unknown person clicked that box, Griffin had the biggest known collection in Oz and the second after the button was clicked he still had the biggest known collection in Oz!
As I have previously stated if someone is just playing funny buggers it is part of any research project. There will always be people out there clowning around, no matter how adult and serious they may be in the real World. I have worked with brilliant Doctors around the planet and the minute they walk out of their work environment they are total tards.
Where’s a like button!! Collecting isn't a competition and the UCM is indeed flawed, it can be interpreted in different ways by different people. I cannot see any reason why these threads persist except for the self-pleasure of a few who feel having more transformers than other collectors is something to be proud of - which is ridiculously childish.
Seriously guys??! Every year we have a UCM poll and every year people see it as an opportunity to voice their negative opinion of it. That ship sailed a long time ago when EVERYONE on OTCA voted on the guidelines. Also, it's anonymous if you want to keep it that way so I don't get where the comments about 'who has a larger collection' comes from. If you consider that to be childish, we may as well remove all the individual collection threads on the board.
Bottom line - if you don't like it / agree with it / aren't going to provide accurate figures, go post somewhere else on the forum. Goki puts a lot of his time into this so please show some respect.
You're missing the point. We're using the UCM as a way to compare data year-on-year therefore if you change / alter the parameters a direct comparison between years can't be made. Candidates running for election change therefore what you are describing is a completely different scenario. Also, no one is forcing you to 'support' and / or take part in this poll.
This is covered in Goki's post for the Primary Poll...
He also mentions that there have been a few new polls since the introduction of the UCM. You can read the rest of it here.Quote:
...the articles in the UCM continue to reflect what the majority of participants voted for. Thus the UCM is based on a majority consensus.
