Based on those two pics, I prefer the Hasbro red. The Henkei almost looks Pinkimus-ish when juxtapositioned so directly.

Is there a side by side pic of the robot mode?
I also prefer Hasbro's red. Takara's red is nice too - particularly for lovers of show-likeness... but Hasbro's darker red looks nicer and is more G1 toy-accurate (which I personally prefer). The siren colours is the one dept. where the Takara version definitely looks nicer though - having said that, clear sirens is more G1-accurate too! (both the toy and show models have clear sirens) :) There are some other features that look nicer on the Japanese version, like the weapon - but overall the Hasbro one looks nicer to me. They both look pretty good - it's up to one's personal preference really... one doesn't look inherently better or worse than the other IMO.

Neither version offers a G1 comic-like Inferno with a red face. :p
You pretty much summed up exactly how I feel too, there is nothing hugely different between the two. Given the exchange rate I would say a few would be picking up the Hasbro version, but there is no real discernible differences between the two, you would be reasonably happy with either that you purchased, and not look at the other one and feel like yours is missing something.
One of my favourite G1 episodes ^^ :D
It's arguably the most suggestive moment in the G1 cartoon too. ;)
"Inferno, my hero!"
Since I like the silver cannon, I think I'll get the Universe one, take apart the water cannon and spray paint it silver (and some sort of clear coat). Should be easy enough to do.
I like the Henkei but not enough to pay the extra $$. I will buy whoever is cheapest, If I buy him at all.
Pretty much the same to me, will go for Hasbro :)
