Did this early last year and now do it as i get them, highly recommended as it tends to be random of when they leak so just do them all
I forgot my Device Label Soundwave when I removed my tf batteries. :| better check him when I get time, I don't know where he lives these days.
As for MP04 I couldn't for the life of me get the battery holder out. Then again, I have trouble opening soda bottles sometimes. I'll have to recruit someone and try again.
Not sure whether or ot you saw this, or how good you at making out Japanese in instructions, but there is a scan for this very problem right Here. Provided by some helpful citizen ;)
Actually that's not that helpful... :o lol, IIRC, when you get to the twisting the matrix box around step in the second pic,(4th I guess) then you should be able to slide the peg out of the bit it is hooked in to with a bit of jiggling.
getting it back in again, well THAT'S another story.:p
I was finally able to resurrect the voice-box that came with BotCon 2001 Arcee by scraping away enough of the corrosion, and hooking up a new battery. That was one thing I really feared I had lost, as there was significant battery leakage on that one, and they were only button-cells too.
It was great to hear Arcee's voice once again, after 12 year since I'd heard it last.
After seeing this thread on the front page, I had completely forgotten about the bettiers in the MP figures
I went through all my storage boxes this afternoon to find the MP's that used batteries. All of them had started to corrode:( But luckily I think they will be ok with a little cleaning. Also found that my MP Ultra Magnus has yellowed really bad:(:(
My gen. Metroplex battery just died. No more sounds....
Are the super tiny watch batteries Kids Logic uses prone to leaking? I'd like to keep them in my MN Optimus for play, but I don't like the idea of 18 tiny corrosion time bombs in him.
Hmmm gotta check out the animated leader toys
Could be different types of batteries, as Hasbro may have used cheaper ones for Metroplex, that run out faster... or Metroplex might just use up more power.
Anyone know if the AG1 batteries in the Kids Logic Optimus are prone to leaking like big batteries? Some are dead already so I figure if they do leak I should just remove them and not get replacements. ($5 per battery at Big W and the guy has 18 of them:()
And I recently found my takara premium movie leader (ma-21 I think it is called) with leaking aa batteries. These batteries are stored cleverly in the big fuel tanks of the semi. Unfortunately for me these are chromed on the version and the battery acid has eaten a lot of it away.
TAKE YOUR BATTERIES OUT PEOPLE!
They are not as likely to leak as the AA, AAA, C, D ones do but over time I'm sure they would to some extent so best to remove them if they are flat.
FYI: The reject shop sells a card with about 20 odd (in 4 or so different sizes) watch sized batteries. I think there are at least 4 or 5 of the AG1 size on there for $2...bargain  The card is red and they keep them in the isle on your way to the checkout at my local
Make sure you dispose of the old ones thoughtfully as they are deadly to children if swallowed...
Button cell batteries take longer to leak, and are less likely to leak, but they still do... and cause just as much damage (see the photos in the first post).
The BotCon 2001 Arcee voice chip that I mentioned a couple days back in this topic was ruined by three button cells - all of them leaked, corroding contacts and circuitry. :(
These ones seem fine to me and are more than likely what manufacturers use in our toys anyway. At any rate the same rule of thumb should apply...DONT leave batteries of any kind, make or place of purchase in your liked/loved toys...
The suggestion was to have a cheaper alternative on hand incase people wanted to demonstrate lights and sounds of toys that take this type of battery to friends/family.
Fiddled around with my RotF Jetfire for the first time in months and its batteries were dead, so I replaced them. No leakage from the generic Hasbro AAs.
This prompted me to check my other older electronic movie toys, which all have their original batteries. No leakage on any of them, although my '07 Brawl's batteries were also dead. Despite being roughly the same age as Jetfire, RotF Megatron's batteries still have power.
Always remove batteries. I had them leak even on new toys.
Unless they are in a toy you play with often always remove batteries and regularly check the ones you don't remove.
I do every 3 months, but I only keep batteries in two toys so it's not a huge time investment.
For those curious they are in my Rescue Bots Optimus Primal (the big electronic T-rex) and my Power Rangers Legacy Dragon Dagger, cause sometimes I just need to hear that awesome theme music.:p
My TFTM Leaders were left with batteries (they were kept MISB) and just opened them a few weeks ago. I was afraid most of them leaked as the electronics aint working anymore but happy to see they all just drained without leakage. But unfortunately my DOTM Leader Ironhide was not lucky, battery leaked and corroded the negative spring terminal and came off. May be a few more days and Ironhide would have corroded just like in the movie :)
Now all that is left to check are LR buttons from FoC Voyager Grimlock and one more I cant remember
did the hasbro masterpiece Grimlock in the clear package come with batteries in it or included ?
Yes...
US MP Grimlock - 2xLR44 I
That means that it has two button batteries, and they were included with the toy.
Ha! My stuff is mostly sealed.
Oh, well.
It is for the best you don't open them :)
I was a purely MISB collector but moving to OZ forced me to open most of the stuff...anyway just checked my FoC Grimlock battery dead and starting to leak. Will have to check it again as i dont have fresh button cells atm
Um, batteries still leak inside or outside of anything with time. Even ones that have never been used. Some brands are worse than others.
These were all clean when I put them in there like six months ago. they removed the battery bin from our shops and now there is nowhere to take them that is less than 10km away.
And no 9for anyone who follows this thread *please don't throw them in the trash* - it's caustic/chemical waste and should not go in the bin. They have special bins in most shires (locations listed online by suburb/postcode on your local council website) or otherwise keep in a seperate container and take to the local dump once or twice a year (where they will have a special spot, not just chucking them in with everything). I keep my ones in an old coffee glass jar. I don't WANT to keep them, but yeah stupid things keep happening here like the battery bin going away.

IKEA and Officeworks also accept certain battery types for recycling.
Battery World is a chain so might be in other states... but that's where I drop off all my dead batteries (I put them in a double plastic bags and drop them off every few years, along with other batteries like camera, phone and computer).
On topic, I'm not sure how I missed them, but tonight I found (button cell) batteries in one of my "Armada" Unicrons... and they had both leaked. Hopefully they didn't corrode the electronics too much.
I'm in QLD as well and our Battery World gives almost all of their battery recycling money to local charity, but I do drop them off at Officeworks as well due to location.
Umm Griff, his hand and eyes light up, that's not magic ;):D ...although your post did make me go check mine which I have had since new, lucky for me his eyes and hand still work.
I'll try office works, I know they have computer crap you can drop off there, as the other two places you guys mentioned (if we have them) are like 50km away here but we have O.W. like 10km away.
Still trying to find out how to open up my power surge RID optimus prime. CAn't find anything online for it at all for how to get the batteries out, of find the chamber itself even after dismantling the top half of the toy (removing screws etc).

On the plus side I found the MP Grimlock battery chamber just now. It's not on the hand or the sword.
It's in the shoulder (or dino mode hip). I googled it and someone had a scan of the official instructions which I have screen capped below for anyone else to find useful.
I had no idea he had batteries before as I got a loose second hand one with no accessories etc.
I got the chamber open just now and yep, corrosion ahoy. But luckily it had kind of congealed into itself and the battery chamber was fine. Thanks guys. Compartment is super tight, I used a little flat edged wedge to slide them up, then pliers to pull them out as they would not budge.

I don't understand your post sorry.
I checked the link you posted

This tells me the toy that has batteries.... has batteries.
Nothing about how/where to remove them?
I'm still looking.
