SO. SO AWESOME. Seriously. Best Marvel Movie to date. very nice. GO SEE IT!!
This the kinda movie you skip TAFE for?
I got both cups!!!!!!!!!! FUCKING AWESOME MOVIE!!!!!
The ending. I saw the you know, was there anything else after that?
and what was that, that we saw??? I dont know the marvel universe
So the film starts with a powerful alien cube being stored in a secret military base? "Quickly Avengers, protect the Allspark!" ;)
This is a wonderful superhero film, funny, exciting, original but true to the spirit of the original characters (and much less Ultimates than I was expecting).
off to see the movie now :)
Saw today.
Wow.
Fantastic. Going to go see it again tomorrow with the future missus. If I can get up without having a headache :p
But a great movie all around. Alot of comedy, some sadness, with my fav movie/comicbook characters of recent times. And Stan Lee's line in the film had me giggling, even though half the people in the audience had no idea why I was laughing :p
Great movie! Really enjoyed it... and this is from a DC fan :)
my quick thoughts of the movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCTbSvFMx28&feature=plcp
Just watched it the second time, this time in Gold Class (which was a first). Noticed a few extra things here and there.
Still a great movie the second time around and wouldn't mind seeing it for a third, but might give it some time between.
Great film, not just for an action film either.
Dialogue was witty, the on-screen chemistry between the cast was excellent, and when the set action pieces arrived, they were big and fun and off the wall.
Just shows what we could have had if a different direction had been taken with the TF movies.
(I really loved not seeing any light flare/glare effects!)
Just repeating what everyone else has said. Loved it.
Truly a great achievement!
This movie could have gone wrong with superhero overkill....but it didn't!
Great action sequences, great lines and Marvel references! Plus hints on future events and who's the next big baddie!.....:) :)
i enjoyed the movie alot, i really liked the character interactions the Hulk was good to watch.
i thought the characters all had an equal share of screen time with all of them shining when they were"spotlighted" in the battles.
a movie i will go and see again
I kinda felt like Captain America seemed to get the most screen time, personally I wanted to see more Thor but that's just me being a Thor fangirl.
Something I really enjoyed about this film was the humor. I genuinely laughed out loud so many times. This movie didn't have to try hard to make me laugh in the way the TF movies do, I genuinely laughed my face off a few times during the film. I wasn't expecting it to be so damn funny!!
I thought that Black Widow had the most screentime individually in this movie? You know what? When I see this movie for the 3rd time I should time how long each Avenger makes an appearance in. Don't know how I'm going to do that, or... will I have to watch the movie again and again and just to record the appearance time for just 1 hero per viewing? :D
That sounds like it should be a team effort, go with a group and take a character each. :p You're probably right, she did get a heck of a lot of screen time.
My friend started laughing when Thor made his first appearance because I got so excited.
I kinda forgot about Black Widow when I wrote that so I'm changing my tune, she definitely got the most screen time. I was mostly thinking of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and The Hulk when writing that. Out of those four, I feel like we saw Captain America and Iron Man the most, with no way near enough love for The Hulk.
I really enjoyed how Joss had Mark Ruffalo’s Banner reference the deleted scene from TIH (which was in Ed Norton’s cut of the film, paying a little respect perhaps?) of when he tried to shoot himself in the head in the artic and it failed (if you have the blu-ray go look! Or YouTube)
hulk was so cool lol
I thought it was great.
I remember reading an interview somewhere in which Joss Whedon had said a major challenge was to try and give the main superheroes equal screen time, so he wouldn't have one or two overly dominant characters. I'd say he largely succeeded, especially given the sheer number of characters.
Saw it today. Loved it. :)
Sure, the story is relatively simple, but it works. And as others have said, it's difficult to develop a more complex story with an ensemble cast. Dark Knight was able to develop a highly complex story, but you're only working with a single protagonist. The movie does manage to give each of the Avengers some level of character development (which is ever so crucial in driving a story) - some moreso than others, but none of the Avengers were "stagnate." They weren't just caricatures or set-pieces like most of the Transformers were portrayed in Michael Bay's films. There were also some neat fan references like Stark's "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" line, seeing the remaining "A" sign on Stark Tower... and also some nice funny moments, like when Thor's "He is my brother!..." <hears what Loki's done> "He's adopted."; Loki getting pwned by Hulk ("Puny God."); and when Captain America gave orders to the Avengers, he turned to Hulk and said, "Hulk smash." :D The one line I was waiting to hear but didn't was "Avengers Assemble!" :o And of course, the obligatory Stan Lee cameo... heh. :) Then of course we see Thanos at the end. ;)
A good solid action movie. :)

P.S.: This was the third movie that I took my Iron Man TF along to (the previous two being Iron Man & Iron Man 2). ;)

I always knew you were crazy skywarp, but dayum.
Saw the movie last night; Absolutely expertly and excellently executed! - Joss Whedon deserves a bloody Oscar for this effort as he took several greatly larger than life characters and perfectly balanced their dialogue, story and screen-time to a tee - This is by far the definitive Marvel film, possibly the single best Super Hero flick too IMO.:D:cool:
The Dark Knight is still my favourite super hero movie IMHO. The Avengers is no where near as story-driven... but of course, with half a dozen protagonists comprising a cast ensemble, it's not really possible unless you only focus on one hero and develop that character at the expense of the others... which is what happened in X-Men 2 (focused on Wolverine's story).
As far as ensemble cast hero movies are concerned, I'd say the first X-Men was more story-driven (using Rogue and Wolverine as the main protagonists). But I can see what Whedon's tried to achieve with The Avengers and allow each of the characters to experience some form of journey; each of them coming to terms with personal issues to varying degrees. Naturally there's only so much you can do when trying to develop that many characters in a limited span of time... so in context of what the movie wanted to achieve, I thought it was rather well done. :) While the character development may have been rather rudimentary, importantly it worked well. Better to keep a story relatively simple and 'manageable' rather than try to wig it out too much and get things in a convoluted tangled mess... like Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon. :( The Avengers is a good example of the K.I.S.S. principle in action. :D If the next Transformers movie could be as good as The Avengers, then I'll be one extremely happy chappy. ;)
Seems the American release has an additional post credits scene, nothing major, but very whedon-esc
Avengers would be proud of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uTsS...&feature=g-u-u
The Avengers have shwarma for a post-battle lunch.

saw the movie today (just came back from it). SEEN IT, LOVED IT!
After seeing the Avenger's today, I think Joss Whedon should be the one making the next transformers movie, maybe he'd get it right
This is what we missed at the end of the credits in the Australian version:
