Similar problems plagued this years Target MP-4's such as the dodgy/substandard paint apps, visible snips of plastic flashing and the dent in the door.
Though I have to say, paint screwups look 500% worse in white.

Wow that is ridiculous! gogo return
That's atrocious. I don't think Hasbro have ever done one that bad. Generally its just the design of the toy being very challenging or testing the limits. This is simply a re-issue and those are some major screw ups.
i dont think its so much the screw ups in the creation of the toy, but rather a lack of effort of quality control, not properly assessing the toy before it is packaged, this one should have been pulled up as soon as it was started and redone
You could try his Youtube profile :)
That is really unacceptable, I hope you get some sort of recompense for it.
I bought the Target one, it had no issues but over time it flaked a little in the corners which I easily touched up with a paint pen.
The real bad one was MP-01. The blue on his legs begun to chip like crazy and I had to repaint parts of it. However out of the box it was just fine.
I was lucky with my MP-4 as he has no issues (I opened the box to inspect and then returned to box).
The good news about your MP-2 is that the paint defects can be very easily solved with a white paint pen. The bad news is that stuff like the door deformity cannot.
Takara-Tomy is quickly loosing my faith in them as a costumer. It is also hurting me as a fan and collector too as before I could always rely on Takara to give me a good product when Hasbro would cheap out on it.
Now just like politics in election time, it seems that when a toy is released I have to choose between two evils rather than a toy company that has my confidence.
Im glad I still have my MP-02 that I bought from Target. Dont know the quality though because its still trapped inside its box.....never to see the sun :)
Just got a message from a guy I (my wife) sold the MP04 to. One missing headlight.
Are TakTom in the habit of sending out spare parts or replacements?
Yes. I got free replacement parts for my MP-01 as well as free gifts from Takara as an apology. The process I went through was:
1/ Contacted* Takara's Customer care call centre.
2/ As directed by Takara, I emailed* them photos of my toy with the missing part to prove that it was indeed missing.
3/ Takara Fed-Exed the replacement parts (and gifts) to me (hand delivered to my door, I had to sign for it!) - arriving within 3 working days after I sent the e-mail.
Note that receiving gifts is not part of Takara's policy. The person I spoke to did it unofficially - basically grabbed some TF merchandise and chucked it into the FedEx box with the replacement parts as his personal apology to me on behalf of Takara. But he wasn't instructed to do so by the company... so please don't demand or expect freebies. I was happy just to receive the replacement parts - anything beyond that is a bonus. :)
My MP-01 was missing one of its step-ladder panels (I think it was the left one) but Takara sent me replacement panels for both left and right - so if anyone needs a step-ladder panel for Masterpiece Convoy LMK. :)
_______
PS: *Obviously TakaraTOMY is a Japanese company so this advice may be of limited value for those who don't speak Japanese - I would advise seeking assistance from a friend or someone you know IRL who can speak Japanese to help you with this.
Off topic posts here have been removed. Please limit any further discussion in this thread to any QC issues regarding MP-2. Thank you (:
Hmm RK seem to be ignoring me since I sent them an email with the photos. :( It's been over a week since I sent the first one, and I sent another one on Friday and still no response. I really don't feel like opening a dispute with PayPal over this, I don't want to jeopardize my relationship with RK, and and as a result shop elsewhere.
Good luck with that Adzma. I find that RK service is great up until you pay if you catch my drift. I wouldn't waste your time.
I hope they get their act togetehr when MP Grimlock is released.
I guess that a last resort could be writing a letter to Takara Tomy in English and see how it goes. You never know, but its possible that they may make the effort on giving it to someone that can read English so they can take care of you. Takara seemed to be the type that would go through the extra effort to satisfy a costumer, I don't know how it is now with Tomy but its worth a shot.
After umming and ahhing since Starscream first came out, I decided to get a Skywarp at last.
Then i read this thread, and now Im kinda worried.
First off Kup, I love your sig.
Second off, thats good news! :)
Yeah what Kup said, Skywarp should be fine so I wouldn't worry about it. :) Also since I opened a PayPal dispute, RK are happy to listen to me. Funny that isn't it?
I hope they exchange a new piece for you Adzma. Its the only decent thing for them to do.
I opened my MP-02 last week and at a glance it looked ok. I'll have to relook at it I suppose.
Transform it at least once. You don't really notice things until you do.
Check the edges of the metal particularly on the chest doors and check to see if the paint on the legs is not flaking off. It would also be a good idea to check the stability of the upper leg joints for misshapen or mis assembled plactic.
I haven't transformed any of my MP's yet:o, the only one I have even opened was the naughty one;):D. I'm glad I got an MP-02 UMagnus a couple of years ago. Good luck with your dispute Adzma.
i only got this MP-02 cos the seller packaged it with T-cracker and sold the 2 to me cheap (and the fact that someone out there might actually make a custom MP-02 armour is another factor. Don't want to be caught without MP-02 when the armour does get made!). Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't even consider getting it.
But I'll check it nonetheless. Detest sucky quality.
looking at the pics, i feel sick:(
Today this thread deserves an update, as I received a little surprise in my Inbox and this is what it said:
RK have actually offered to cover the shipping cost back to Hong Kong! This has brightened me up a lot because if they hadn't I probably would've made back maybe $10-20 of the actual figure itself because of the cost of shipping it here in the first place, then having to send it back. And turtle boy, it seems I was just really unlucky with my Magnus, as this guy's is perfectly fine except for the upside down headlights, which can apparantely be fixed anyhow.Quote:
Hi,
please provide your paypal account e-mail,
so we can send you the shipping cost payment,
and you send back the item to HongKong,
And after we received your parcel,
we will refund you the money for the order.
Thanks,
Ray

EDIT: Although this doesn't mean I was the only person to get a shocking one.
Wow! Kudos to RK! Along with my apologies to them for my lack of faith! Congrats Adzma!
A happy ending. :)
New developments as of the past couple of days. They've now offered a refund of $39.95, half of a brand new Magnus that they will send me and I don't need to return my current one. Here's the email:
I'm a little cautious about getting a new one, because while there have been some that are in perfect condition, minus the upside headlights which seem to be widespread, there are others like mine. Still I haven't had much luck finding a 2004 issue. What do you guys think?Quote:
Hi,
I mean we offer half price US$39.95 for this Ultra Magnus, and will you want
to get it?
That mean we will refund the half price US$39.95 for the magnus, and you
keep this ultra magnus, and no need to ship back.
Thanks,
Ray

take the refund and run.
(ie: just take it that you bought toy for half its RRP because its slightly defective, that is unless the defects really irk you, even at that price.)
Yeah I've decided to take that refund and call it quits. I'll just be glad when this is all over.
Received my refund today, :) and I've already made arrangements to get a 2004 Magnus from somebody. Finally this drama comes to an end.
