Big W Toy Mania 2022 sale

Big W Mildura has made no move toward the toy sale (at least with regard to Transformers - there are plenty of new stuffed displays just waiting for signs, and the regular shelves are brim-full of new items, including Marvel toys for the next film that's still a month away).

No Legacy stock of any sort. Still a shelf full of old stock (Kingdom, Cyberverse, Studio Series) that's mostly been there for a year or more now, and is now crammed any which way into half the space it had a couple of months back.

The only new stock was SS86 Starscream.

It will indeed be interesting to see what is available on the 16th...


Oooh, oooh, forgot, there is one thing - a large note, two copies of, to the effect that they made a whoopsie in the catalogue by calling leaders deluxes.

Big W Macquarie has reissue Wolfang and Scorponok already out.

The sale prices are now active on the BigW site... but it has the new items listed as "coming soon", so can't be purchased yet. Hopefully that changes at midnight so that I can purchase Motormaster.

EDIT - the products that are for the sale have a note saying that they can be purchased (online) from 7am tomorrow, not midnight. I was hoping it was midnight, as I will be working at 7am, so could miss the initial rush of click-n-collect orders. :(

Got Motormaster but noticing some stores are selling out for click and collect...

I also managed to order MM - but the page was lagging out so hard, I had to refresh the process a few times.

Yawn. It's too early... but I got Motomaster for click-collecting.

Compared to previous years, that was extremely smooth and easy. Looks like they upgraded that old Dodo server.

So this is actually true, after going back to the $39 discounted price after I posted. Studio Series Voyagers are indeed $35 (40% off) at the moment (perhaps reverting to $39 on Thurs).

This will be a fun little game - watching stock sell out. So far several stores in QLD, NSW, SA and VIC are out of stock and I just noticed the delivery option has turned red X for me in Perth. No doubt some scalpers have started their workday. Meanwhile all Perth stores are fully stocked... cos it's too early!

At break at work rightnow, only loganholme left with Motormaster on south side of brisbane, so ordered it from there... now to see if they actually had stock.

Yes it's one thing to successfully place an order, another thing entirely to have it completed and delivered! Although i don't think bigw is quite as notorious as Target for that....

Yeah noticed Delivery is not an option which seems silly.

People who missed out on Motormaster... don't jump on the scalpers just yet... as the product page says "If this product is not available to add to cart, we have sold out of our online launch stock. More stock will be available in store on Thursday 16th June."
For all we know, each store only released 2 or 3 units of their 10-20 units for the online pre-sale... and on Thursday we could see a large number of units put out on shelf (and online).
So in two days time, check the store listings again, to see which stores near you have added into inventory the rest of their allocation... from which you can order online for click-n-collect or delivery, or go to the store in person.

The regional QLD stores still have stock, so if you know someone up here maybe arrange with them to get one for you and ship it to you if you miss out on Thursday. I know my local store always has Commanders left over.

Clearly Big W have not learnt from past Toy Sale experiences by not ordering 17,000 units of Motormaster for each store.

I actually forgot this was on until about 930... placed an order for Motormaster and have just got back from picking him up.

I picked mine up. Damn, the torso of Menasor is unintuitive. I actually had to use instructions on him. That's only the second time in about 3 years I've needed instructions on a Generations toy. I usually only break out instructions for MPs.

Now I need to wait for Motormaster to go on clearance like Rodimus and Skylynx both did to pick up a second one to display as Motormaster since this guy is going to be Menasor.

Drove to the store and picked up Motormaster after work.
One happy camper here. :)

That's good that they give you 10 days to get it, so that you can be sure that you get one and not waste a long trip, or miss out on the cheap price because the scalpers got them all.


The generous returns scheme at BigW benefits scalpers, as there is no risk for them to snap up lots of items if they can easily return them if they don't sell them... all to create a market of short-supply and desperate demand.
BigW are signing up to these exclusive items to get collectors into their stores, but end up being the target of their aggression because they have set up a system that works against the collectors from having an easy or best chance at those items. And ultimately, if certain items are returned in bulk by scalpers because they couldn't sell them, it bulks out the BigW inventory after the sale, and they may not want to bother with that Brand for the next toy sale.

I'm going to come off as naive, however is scalping really that much of an issue in Australia?

I've normally found distribution to be the main problem with collecting here, to the point where I rarely buy local any more (which is why I probably don't realise how bad scalping is here).

Normally most figures shelf warm unless, as mentioned, we get stiffed on the distribution side.

There’s one guy in Victoria who would go from kmart to kmart buying netflix stock and selling it at insane prices. He had at one point like 20 each Bumblebees and soundwaves. He still has stock 2-3 years later

We've already seen a bunch of early Motormasters in Melbourne go for $300+ on e-bay.

There's no need to worry about missing out on Motormaster. He's only exclusive for the period of the sale. I guess people haven't learnt that and instead, they are feeding the scalpers.

I have seen some people say that the box for motormaster looks smaller than it should be, but it is actually slightly bigger than the last two Commander class boxes (Rodimus and Skylynx).

Is it me or has Motormaster been taken off the website? A bit frustrating for those who want to find stores with stock.

What annoys me is seeing them on a pallet at my local before the sale, being informed no they wont scan and will be held til 16th. On the 16th some people saying they have got them off the shelves,and the nearest click and collect is 45+ min drive, so I go local assured no, not putting them out. There yesterday and assured not putting them out, go there 8am this morning, quiet store, only a few pensioners outside, go in and what? they're sold out?

I went to Big W Hurstville this morning to grab Skids. Had to get help from a checkout assistant because they weren't scanning properly, but probably fixed now because a manager took a few deluxes off to fix the issue.

Nope, he's still listed. Try searching Transformers Commander, not Motormaster.

That said, store stock only, no online stock.

Feel the need to gripe...

I idly checked the Big W site before going to bed last night, and lo and behold it finally said that Mildura had stock. So I placed an order for pickup, figuring it was easier that way than hoping they didn't sell out before I could get there today to grab one off the shelf.

I've just received a call to say that they never even received any stock on the truck...

This is the second time I've had an on-line order refunded like this, and I've only ever placed 2. Don't think I care to try a third time now.

Studio Series Voyagers are still $35 online and in store, instead of the catalogue price of $39.
