Did you establish in your pic examination what the transformation would be for the trailer pulling mode? Because if it's anything like the original Rodimus it'll be like the front half of a car with the ass end of a robot hanging out (but covered by the trailer)
I ask because if it's the same with the MP mold and it's released locally you'd essentially lose an entire mode out of it (no trailer means you can't have the Rodimus mode, because it would look ridiculous)
There was a lot of speculation on TFW2005 that the hot rod car mode actually goes nose-first into the trailer and the back wheels of the hot rod car are what form the cab wheels of the truck.
The truck cab mode is completely different to the car mode and some of the unpainted prototype pics show that the windshield section and hood of the truck cab are actually attached to the bottom of the trailer and would likely be pulled down over the rear section of the hot rod car.
That theory seems to hold up pretty well looking at the painted pics.
Its an ingenious if a little unconventional transformation.
I am in love with the toy. True engineering genius!!!!:D
It would be an added bit of coolness if the Rodimus Prime robot mode is slightly taller than Hot rod. It certainly looks that way in the pic but I can't see if the limbs elongate or not.
Indeed, you wouldn't have a Rodimus vehicle, but you would have Hotrod robot, hotrod vehicle and Rodimus robot for a lot less cash I bet.
If I were a stingey mega toy company, I would market it as a masterful Hotrod toy with bonus Rodimus Prime robot mode.:p;)
Eazy D pretty much sums it up! The Rodimus Prime cab is essentially 2 parts that flip out from under the trailer, locking over the back end & sides of the Hot Rod mode to give it a new frontend look.
Actually, both vehicles look like they might attract criticism for being 'shellformers', but that's not a concern of mine... for such beautiful looking modes (all of them!)
Here's a good pic of the legs extending (plus face swap + wing reposition). They've been a bit tricky with the photo zoom though, to make RP look bigger than he actually is. In reality i'd guess it's about .5-1cm increase in height.

Many more high quality pics here!
Still no pics to confirm if he comes with a Matrix or not. fingers crossed he does.
Oh that does make sense.
With that in mind I wonder if FP/TFClub/iGear (or even Hasbro) will release like a molded chunk of plastic shaped like the rear end of Hot Rod roadster mode so you can have it in the Rodimus trailer and display the two together.
I really hope that's the final colour. The samples in the display cases looked very pink but I like the more orangey colour used here.
Brilliant!! I love it!!
I may need to get 2 :o
Masterpiece Rodimus Coming to US, without Trailer
I didn't start a new thread for this because it's just a rumour at this stage.
This would be great news if it proves to be true. Surely a local release wouldn't be out of the question as well. Next year is also the 25th anniversary of TF:TM ;)
It's kind of bitter sweet news if true.
It will be cheaper and probably of decent quality given the track record of recent Hasbro MP releases. However it will still be 'incomplete'.
Since it's unlikely neither Hasbro nor TOMY would ever release the trailer by itself, the people who buy the Hasbro version would probably be reliant on a 3rd party to produce the trailer as it happened with MP-01.
It would be interesting if they did give him the Targetmaster instead, but seems unlikely as well.
I want a Targetmaster too, but i wonder how well Rodimus could hold him with his starscream style articulated fingers.
It would be pretty awesome, would be really cool if they have it up their sleeves and keeping a lid on it. Considering Prime and Megs came with extra stuff, maybe they will have something extra for Hot Rod? Who knows, but like you said, a 3rd party will most likely do Firebolt if HasTak don't.
Yeah but i'm wondering how a scout size figure can be secured with a peg too!
I don't think it would be Scout sized - it's have to be legends sized at most?
I would prefer a smaller Targetmaster. Targetmasters are usualy ridiculously large and IMO look kinda terrible when attached in vehicle mode. If they actualy ever did an MP Targetmaster I'd prefer they modernise it and make the gun mode look better.
MP09X Hot Rodimus (Comic version). Almost solid magenta with Targetmaster and no trailer.
I'm calling it first! :)
Behold my quick Digibash attempt!

Targetmaster or not, let's see some Marvel Comics colours!
Not bad at all. Now we just wait for TakTom to announce his release :p
Full of updatey goodness.

Light your wallet's darkest hour and preorder yours today!
Damn, sounds like it may be the go to get them from HLJ now, rather than wait. No suprise that BBTS jack up their price.
It's common for Japanese toy and hobby stores to discount by as much as 40% for mass releases. Online stores are already accepting orders around the $150usd mark.
The aud is currently around 94c, so pre-ordering with full payment now might save you a few $ too.
Robot Kingdom is doing them for US$159 (without postage)...
Pretty damn expensive either way. Predaking is cheaper. But yea, RK wins again here. I think I'll wait for hasbro MP version. The trailer doesn't really add much, so if they do a trailer-less version, that's ok.
i was hoping AmiAmi would sell it like they did Predaking but nope :/
Yep, Robot Kingdom price is the best (so far). Can't wait to get this sucka!
Amiami have (FINALLY) listed at 25% off. 12,300jpy/$150aud + Japan shipping.
Much of a muchness currently.
