Apart from City Commander/Ultra Magnus, has an unofficial third party transformers design element ever been incorporated into an official toy/design?
do you mean, where an element of the third party toy is later used in an official design? What part/element of City commander has since been used by Hastak for UltraMagnus?
Perhaps the upgrade kit Fans Project did for Hot Rod. The latest PotP rodimus is a bit like that.
I never bought those military limbs that were designed to go with the power core combiners (I came very close) but they may have elements that might be similar to the execution of combiner wars.
I mean like how City Commander had 2 missiles on each shoulder, which was then incorporated into CW Ultra Magnus. Also are there any engineering elements that first showed up on a third party toy but later appeared on official stuff.
Also the as yet unreleased Imaginarium Devastator statue is a direct copy of MakeToys Green Giant. Third Party Transformers have been commonplace for so long now that I'm wondering if any "cross contamination" has occured.
If anyone lifted design elements from City Commander it was IDW as CW Leader Mangus is an IDW design.
As for engineering being copied it's probably a matter of there are only a certain number of ways to design a Transformer without resorting to MP level engineering.
As for a licenced product using a third party design, I bet Hasbro has probably told them to redesign it hence why it's not been released.
Not arguing that CW Magnus is heavily based off IDW. But whoever designed IDW Magnus obviously had a City Commander in the room at the time.
As for the Devi statue, Imaginairium Art last showed an update in May, so it's probably still happening.
I only thought to ask these questions because the unofficial market has been around for quite a while now and has grown significantly. I have been wondering in what ways Hasbro and Takara have adapted around this market, if at all.
Officially they rightly want to sue the third party market into oblivion, but the third parties incorporate in China where the courts are a joke and don't care about international copyright law.
Beyond that Hasbro have never said anything and anything beyond that is speculation.
I'm not debating the legalities of it and ofcourse Hasbro have never said anything. It's simply a question of observations. I noticed something and wondered if anyone else had noticed similar things like:
Thanks Ode, I don't play Earth Wars so didn't know about that one.
So it does happen from time to time, probably mainly by accident.
A couple of third party toys have been used as reference by (non-regular) artists on IDW comics. A third party Gears and Huffer showed up on a cover of MTMTE, Rodimus and Drift's vehicle modes were drawn based on third party toys in a recent Lost Light issue.
you could argue that G2 laser ultra magnus was the first to have twin shoulder launchers.
I think I see where you're going there. The line has certainly blurred a bit with characters in the comics like the members of the DJD.
Anyone have HFTD Hubcap? Just wondering how he compares to modern Legends figures of the season 3 Minibots?
So G1 Monstructor was made of the 6 inner bots of 6 Pretenders and was very tiny.
If you guys had to design a modern CHUG Monstructor that pays tribute to the Pretender gimmick and the 6 inner bots while allowing the modern combined form to be at least CW 5 piece combiner in height how would pull this off?
It's sort-of a cheat, but you could do Prime Master/Titan-master sized 'core' bots that could slot into Deluxe-sized combining bots (based on the inner robots with remolds as necessary) and the current Legends-sized Decoy Armor toys in the shape of the old G1 shells.
Other than that I can't see how you could make it work.
Six deluxes, each comes with a Titan Master that becomes the robot head and fits inside an accompanying "Decoy Monster" (like the Prime Master) that also becomes a weapon for the deluxe.
Four are retools:
Bristleback - retool of Potp Sinnertwin
Icepick - retool of Potp Blot
Wildfly - retool of Potp Cutthroat
Scowl - retool of Potp Blot
Two are new:
Slog - new figure, becomes head, shoulders and chest of the combiner, also comes with the robot fists
Birdbrain - new figure, becomes torso and legs of the combiner, also comes with the robot legs
.....
I would do Dinoking differently though, mostly repaints with new heads and just the robots turning into the dinosaurs of their shells
Goryu - repaint of Potp Grimlock
Kakuryu - repaint of Potp Slag
Yokuryu - repaint of Potp Swoop
Rairyu - repaint of Potp Sludge
Doryu - repatint of Potp Snarl
Gairyu - a new Legends sized figure, possibly a retool of Shrapnel, that could attach to Goryu
Have beast wars figures gone up in price or is it just me? Ive been looking over ebay etc and for several months they seem to have increased.
Moral of the Story: Don't use eBay. ;) :p :D
Hey guys, I'm super depressed being stuck in Townsville. It's not fun. So. I'm thinking of doing an afterpay order for some Transformers and came across robotoyz.net and was thinking "hmmm, is this to good to be true?" Their Facebook page a has good reviews but that means nothing ultimately.
Can anybody endorse this lot? https://www.robotoyz.net/
Since none of those stores have Afterpay, AND big W and Target won't let you choose your Transformers I got Figuarts instead.
Were you able to organise a fan meet?
Townsville is a horrible place with no weather variance, terrible drivers, lazy store opening hours and a not overly intelligent population. There is no public transport. It is too far away from everything. The only place it's not worse than is Swan Hill. There are like three Big Ws here and I still don't expect to see anything beyond Wave 1 of Power of the Primes for another six months. The libraries books are literally falling apart.
I would rather be in Melbourne. I would rathe be in Bendigo. I can handle the cold. Negative temperatures? Please. That's nothing. Its easier to get warm than cool down.
yea, most libraries do this weekly thing called rhyme time, for parents and kids. It's pretty good and interactive. very challenging if you are trying to handle twins though. My wife hasn't taken the kids in a while now, it's just too hard.
Considering my favourite places in Australia are Ballarat and The Grampians and I don't drink coffee... good to see those Country assumptions are as with the times as ever. :P (Also, come on, don't be that guy that defends Swan Hill. Only people who will never ever leave Swan Hill defend Swan Hill, and I'd hate to think there was another Transformers fan there that I ignored for a year--I made one friend in Target because I wouldn't let him badmouth the Switch without playing it. ;)) I will admit. I like the Infamous Geek, and I went to Cactus Jack the other night.
Library memberships have actually been on the rise for years, I was getting ready to start my library studies course to become a librarian which I can't do up here, and you can get everything from comics to rare books to video games and DVDs from the library, to great places to study, to even filling in some time before a train., it's a great way to try things out before you buy. And it's a great way for poor people to stay literate. You may have been joking about the library, but, seriously, don't. Libraries are invaluable. When we lose them it's the start of the apocalypse.
I was actually going to say, aside from the absence of cold weather and the luxury of having 3 Big Ws (try one smallish KMart and a Target Country - Burnie does slightly better with a larger KMart and a tiny regular Target) that all sounds a lot like Devonport/NW Tassie.
But I have to give it to Tasmania, the library system here is great. Everything Gouki said, except there's literally one train line in the entire state and it's not for passengers.
Libraries are awesome.
It's winter. It is not like that 365 days a year. Serves you right for liking sport. :P
We can't all live the glamorous Bris Vegas life of getting stabbed for walking through parks at night. :P (My partner really wants to take me to Brisbane. He loves it, having grown up splitting time between there and Vic.)
I had to Google Karl Pilkington, though. Not sure how much I trust someone who keeps. Inflicting Gervais on us haha
