I use to enjoy it as well as be depressed by it. Now i'm not alone but still want it occasionally.

i have an aunt in america but she doesnt have an ebay account, and i asked her about making one, but meh.
This thread has been quite active this week, maybe it's just a coincidence that many of us OTCA boarders are having a crud week.
My week's been drama after drama and it's got to the point where I've decided to unleash my fury on anyone in the public that pisses me off, like yesterday I was walking I passed this house that had a dog that ran up to me and started barking so I roared back 'DON'T F*CK WITH ME YOU STUPID B!TCH I'VE GOT ENOUGH PROBLEMS F*CKBAG'. The dog actually squealed away and the owner had dropped their jaw but I did not give one flying crap.
Pulled the words right out of my mouth, sir!
So true esp the bold bits. From my experience, girls actually get turned off by 'nice' guys who are always hovering around waiting for them to say 'jump', then the does exactly that, jump. Seriously, how boring is that? They might as well get a pet or something.
and that...
So true. There's gotta be more to your life than chasing skirts. In fact, they'll find it a challenge and fight for your attention if they know that they can't have all of you. You know, like you are so devoted to something that you will never be 100% theirs (eg: TFs, basketball, surfing, etc) - it just eats them up inside (okay, exaggerating, but something like that).
From what I've been told over the years, girls actually find that sexy (and a challenge). The loser is the guy that is willing to throw down whatever he is doing once the girl comes a-callin' (what I've been told by girls too).
intelligent and witty guy like you, if you actually bothered to engage with girls, I'm sure they will flock to you in droves. :D
Dude, I don't want to shatter your dream. This is coming from a lawyer (ahem, me) who has been in the top Australian and international law firms, to a soon to be lawyer (you) - unless a miracle happens, you are very unlikely to be "uncontrollably" rich by being a lawyer, "constructed trusts" and "tax shelters" are not going to help you much.
Sure, you will make more than the average joe, in fact the moment you start you'll be earning 2 to three times more than your peers from other courses (bar Medicine and bankers and maybe other minor categories). BUT, you'll not be uncontrollably rich. You'll be comfortable, sure. You'll have lots of disposable income, sure. But, not uncontrollably rich.
Wanna be uncontrollably rich within 2-3 years of graduation? Go be a trader, stock broker or investment banker. But I gotta tell you, its not for everybody. Some people hate it.
My banker friend who went to law school with me just got a bonus of US$700,000, for 3 months' work. Not to mention that his basic pay is more than on par with a lawyer's. That, is uncontrollably rich and of a scale and a magnitude that is inconceivable, even to lawyers or doctors who cannot ever hope to achieve pay on that sort of scale (if they stay purely lawyers and doctors).
Sorry for that, I just don't want you to have this rosy picture and get smack disillusioned when you get into the working world and find out its not what its touted to be (I know it pissed me off back in the day).
The good news is, you'll still be exceeding comfortable as a lawyer, but you'll unlike be able to say that you're "set for life".
Wow I'm in the wrong profession. A $700,000 bonus would solve every problem I currently have. Well I'd still be single but I would be in a much better position to be able to change that too.
Benefit of being single, more TF money! WHOO!
How far are you into your law degree/ how long left if you don't mind me asking?
Ahh man HD... you just shattered my dream! ...
This is a reality I think I have to accept aswell. I am currently doing a law degree aswell- I have heaps long to go- bout 3 semesters left of degree and also have to do all the PLT and college of law after. Working and family/personal issues held me back a bit.
I'd like to think I can be rich as a lawyer but just isn't true- as I have friends who have been working and tell me its crap- long stressful days. Add to that fact Im at UWS - shite compared to UNSW or Sydney Uni. I am under no illusion of how hard it is and the amount of money that will be there- but I hold in hope it's all worth it.. I kinda got depressed for a while and that affected my eagerness to study- but now tfs make me wanna finish quick so I can buy more with that influx of disposable income.
Anyhow, I just hope I can eventually earn $100k/yr and I will be content.
And it is 3:30AM right now- I should have been studying for my corporations law exam rather than type this ...haha..
Here:
Sorry....... :(
You know what? At the end of the day, its not about the money. You gotta like what you are doing. Thinking about a job in terms of how much money it can make you is almost akin to chasing girls so you can get under their skirt (this is me trying to link the 2 predominant topics, perhaps unsuccessfully). It's painful and one may not be so successful at doing it.
I do what I do cos I love doing it. Long hours so what? It's just more fun to me. Like I said, I can't be a banker, I just don't like it. So that sort of money was never meant to be made by me anyway.
Just a thought try to do really well and get into one of the top 6 at least (if that is your cup of tea). It's very very difficult to move to higher tier firms if you start at a small or mid sized firm. It's just the reality. I have uni friends who have been very very unhappy for years because of this.
You will likely get there in 2-3 years give or take and also depending on which tier firm you work for. Obviously you will get there faster if you're at one of the top three firms.
Good luck with Corporations Law. I loved it. Not sure the you do. heh.
Wow!!! No matter how hard I work, I'll never get a $700k bonus in any currency :(
same but you know what it doesnt worry me that much i mean sure it would be nice to have that sort of extra dough laying around.
i enjoy my job its pretty much stress free i dont have to work extra long days if i don't have to i go to work for a few hours a day mon-fri and by the time i get home i have forgotten about work and i get to enjoy my weekends and because of that i am much more happier person...oh and i dont have to deal with customers/clients which is absolute bliss :D
You got me there :) Missed that one. But then I'd probably have to live in Zimbabwe. Not really interested with that. I should say in any major currency :D
I enjoyed my job before but it wasn't paying well eough. Now in my new job I get paid a bit well but I don't enjoy it as much as my previous job. :( I'd rather have stayed in my old job if only they paid me a bit more.
gdmetro I'm just about to finish third year and I've got four to go. Plus a year of honours in political science that it's looking likely that I'm going to be doing next year - mainly because out of high school over here they don't let you do straight law (I've been doing Law/Arts with a major in Politics). 3 years has seen me cover the units on Criminal, Tort, Contract, Property, Equity and Trusts, and half of Constitutional Law (of course excluding the advanced versions of these units you do later in your degree).
This disappoints me. If this won't make me uncontrollably rich, as television has led me to believe, what's the point? I could be cleaning toilets on a minesite for comfortable money...
(not said in a disparaging sense, I've got more than one good mate that does that kind of work. Just said in the sense that it won't take the better part of a decade to qualify for).
Maybe I should take up betting on football...
Our kittens have got fleas. :(
They barely held still long enough for us to put the flea treatment on and they certainly won't stay still for us to go over them with the flea comb.
Another death in the family. What is this, year of killing off my bloodline?
As for vents, has this ever happened to you? Longed desperately for something but put off by the price, but when you finally have enough cash when it's on sale, they're all gone?
Or you purchased something to go along with said item, and when it finally arrives, the original purchase has vanished off the face of the earth and cannot be located no matter how many time you turn home upside-down?
Happened to me recently. While on a trip in July, I picked up the 'G.I.Joe: Rise of Cobra' Pit Commando figure. This fantastic little toy was never released by the big retailers here, but he was found at one specialty store (and if they had Agent Helix too, she'd be snapped up as well).
So after coming home, the Commando (still on his card) was placed somewhere that I would remember to find him once the Pit itself was purchased.
Fast-forward to November, and after searching many Toys R Us stores, the Pit is finally mine. But what's this? Where's the Pit Commando? Why can I not find him? Who's General Hawk going to banter on now?
So now I have a Pit MIB, with no Commando. What's the point opening it without a Commando to be guardian? The whole house has been torn apart but to no avail. He's gone.
It's personally believed several Cobra Vipers have come alive and kidnapped him while defenceless. :p
So over living in a backpackers.
Also, really bored.
It's snug at home, so I'm TF-less for now, and lamentably there's only a whole bunch of Koreans who all basically don't socialise with any of the non-Asian crew unless they want English help.
Your wise man had clearly never been to Hobart...:p
Great, absolutely pissing down outside, and no umbrella. I'm gonna be soaked by the time I get to the station.
Same in canberra :( Im wearing a t-shirt, and canvas shoes, and its a lovely 10 minute walk home from the bus stop -_-
You think I wouldve learnt yesterday....
its sunny here.
i wish it had rained. the car could have used a wash. im too lazy to do it.

Sick, I dont want a second prinitng, thats means sweet F all to me, oh wait you had to make it worse by allowing your grubby little FKN FRIENDS to sort through my standing order whilst Im browsing the shop you little............!!!

I HATE READING LECTURE NOTES. SO FREAKING BORING. I CANNOT WAIT TILL THE 24TH NOV WHEN UNI FINISHES :mad::mad::mad:
Just had a new couch delivered. One piece white, one piece black. That's some real intelligent storemen they've got there! Just when i was starting to think no one could surprise me with their sheer idiocy anymore too!
You've gotta be kidding?
Admittedly that did make me laugh - because how could you possibly F@#$! that up? It'd be written on the order slip, not to mention common sense.
Sorry to hear though dude, my suggestion?
Take it back to the warehouse it came from and lob it at the D@#$! - might help to wake him up a little. :p
It's written on the order slip, on a sticker stuck to the couch wrapping, and the couch is visible inside the plastic as pure white! LOL
Just had the call that they're coming back today to swap it thankfully. I'd throw it at them but i don't like heavy lifting!... and the delivery guy is about 4x my size
