i've been looking for those kits. where did you pick them up?
I got them a while ago on ebay.
i love the look of those planes. they look mean and purposeful, like they were meant for the job and they do it well. little know fact is even tho they look a like they were planned seperately with different computer and wind tunnel designs and they are the only fighter aircraft in the world that can do the "cobra". i know of 1 seller on ebay who sells them cheap and i'm gonna grab a few and another fulcrum B. with this 1 i'm not gonna use PE but with the second i'm gonna go all out.
half way through the MIG-29 fulcrum B build. it's a really nice model and looks spot on and went together pretty well. there were a few hiccups with the fitting of parts but nothing too bad. i'm not doing any PE on this 1. it's straight out of the box build but the next 1 i do will have the PE parts on it so people can compare them side by side. all i need to do now is a couple of touch ups and then the painting begins.

Nice! I may have to pick one of these up, though I do have a stack of kits to get through.
if you see it, grab it. it's the academy 1/48 mig-29 fulcrum B but they also do the single seater fulcrum A.
i got my airbrush kit today and i've just set it up and the bloody compressor doesn't work... the light on the on-off switch lights up but the bloody motor doesn't kick in. is there anything i could of missed in the set up?
Does it have a cut-off switch? Though that only kicks in once a certain pressure is reached. What about just turning it on with no hoses attached and making sure the air inlet is clear.
done all of that. i just had my brother here and he use to do a fair bit of airbrushing about 5+yrs ago and he reckons it might be a loose wire inside cause it lights up the switch but no motor working.i've gotten hold of the seller and i'll send this 1 back and get a replacement if i can't identify were the fault is.
don't stuff around with it. normally it will just start motor. just return and get another one.
That's a bit of bad luck but I guess it happens. my compressor has lasted over 3 years now.
Aoshima Murcielago. Newly released and I couldn't help ripping it open and sling some paint on it. This is just the base coat. Proper colour will be the 40th anniversary verde artemis.

i can't wait to see the end result. that looks awesome just in pieces. i'm heading out this weekend to hunt down a SU-27 to SU-34. we only really have 1 place to get bulk kits from but there are 1 or 2 shops here that do have a few on the shelves.
have built a bit of a pile? i remember when i use to just do models, i had a pile that was massive. it took me along time to get through them and that pile was just the 1's i got for my birthday/xmas gifts.
there is no model in this bloody town that i like. it's basically all 1/72 aircraft and army men but i did end up getting the last 1/350 tamiya king george V battleship. the toyworld owner has a buttload of new kits coming but he said they are on the slow boat over. now i just need to save up the $130 for the pontos set for it.
i got the the compressor going today and the problem was the diaphram was a little tight. so she's good to go and i'll now trying to work out how to use it.
Just practice. Get a feel for how thin the paint has to be. Experiment with different air pressures and distances.
Finished the interior for my F430. Belts were a bit fiddly but I like how they turned out. Just need a few things for the exterior and it'll be the first one done for 2014.

That's pretty slick.
Going to add Leds for the lights?
I don't usually light up my models mainly because getting access to change the battery may be difficult after everything is assembled. For some models once the body goes on it's not coming off. I'm sure there are ways to do it like making access panels and the like, but if a headlight blows for example it's almost impossible to replace.
Found some new wheels for my F12. Had to grind the mounting posts and PE brake discs with a dremel but it now fits.

looking sweet dude. i wish i still had my dremel. i dropped it a few weeks ago and it's stuffed. by the way where do you get your PE from?
Usually HLJ. Sometimes Mediamixhobby.com or BNAModelworld.com.
i've brought off that bnamodel before but on his ebay page. really quick and cheap delivery and the prices for stuff are the lowest i've seen. i will be buying most of my supplies and PE stuff through him.
ok started the airbrushing and i've done the base coat for the camo on the MIG-29 fulcrum. the only thing i have noticed is that all the defects you could hide when you brushed painted show up clear as day with the airbrushing.here are a couple of pic's of the work in progress.

Prep is so important. A good primer allows you to find all the flaws and makes the top coats adhere. Also stops paint from lifting when you have to mask off an area.
how long do you let it sit between coats? and if you find flaws in the model do you reapply another primer coat after fixing it?
Lacquer primer like the Tamiya spray can stuff dries pretty fast. I'm sure it's pretty warm where you are so you can probably sand it after an hour.
Sand, prime, sand, prime, sand, and so on until it's to your satisfaction. You can locally spray or even brush on primer to fix small flaws then spray the whole thing when it's perfect.
I found Tamiya acrylics adhere to plastic well, even without a primer. As long as you let it dry for about 12 hours, it'll happily take tamiya making tape without peeling. Good quality making tape is important as the cheap stuff can leave residue. :(
I was searching for a way to reproduce alcantara when I came across this guy's page. Such a brilliant idea I had to try it out.

I just shaped some sprue and applied putty to my airbrush. When set I can remove and replace it as needed.

I used 3 paints going from dark to light.

Creates an interesting effect. Not quite the look I wanted but I think it would be perfect for painting carbon brake discs.

wow that looks great. i'll post a few pic's of my feeble attempts of airbrushing from the weekend a little later.
Put together a photo session so here are some new pics.

Nice photos! I like the alcantara effect you achieved, even if it's not quite right up close, it'll probably be close enough once the body is closed up. It might be worth experimenting to see if you can alter the spatter pattern - I think with a finer spatter and maybe mixing your lightest colour to be slightly darker or translucent you might get a near perfect match.
The translucent colour might be the way to go. I'll have to do some more experimenting.
Very nice work. I have to start work on my Dendrobium kit.
i went down to toyworld today to see if they had anything new in stock(nope nothing new and they are actually running out of kits. looking pretty bare) and i found a kit that i wanted as a kid, a Hs-129 B-2. unfortuantly it's made by italeri(it was cheap tho) and they ain't known for well made kits but i was able to do something with it and it turned out pretty good.i added some copper wire to the landing stalks to represent brake lines and what not. it was also my first fully painted kit i did with a airbrush. i experimented with the mottle on the aircraft and with pratice i should get better.the decals are pretty crap as i have no decal softner and toyworld hasn't stocked any in a long time so i'll be getting some soon online. any tips are welcome.

You've got a nice gradation from the top colour to the bottom. For the spots it looks like the air pressure is too high. Lower it a bit and don't pull back the trigger so much. Just build the colour up slowly.
This guy has really good tutorials.
thanks for the tip. i'm gonna check his vid's out after dinner and have a bit of a practice. i love the WW2 german warplanes and the camo on them is a nightmare to do. i'm really hoping to learn it so i can do further kits that are more of a challenge.
Not bad for a first attempt! Your camo dots have started to run a little bit so you might want to dial back on the trigger, and use slightly thicker paint.
One technique that might be helpful is to make a 'raised mask'. Basically, cut out a hole in a piece of stiff card, then either hold it or use a small ball of blutack/tape/whatever to position it a few millimeters above the model surface. You can start spraying on the mask to get your paint/air mix right, then move it over the cut-out giving a nice soft-edged pattern.
Practise makes perfect. :)
Here's a couple of pages from an issue of FineScale Modeler which discusses how to identify and fix some common problems with airbrushing:

Edit:
With your decals, you'll often get better results if you trim as much clear film off as possible. With the wing decals, it's probably easier to cut them into individual strips first and position them by hand. Add some decal softener and they'll look fantastic, without the discolouration from the clear film. :)
