Rise of the Dark Spark - Video Game (USA-24/6 - AUS-26/6)

An update from a gaming magazine gives us details on the story of the game, and some of the multiplayer features.

Sounds lame. There are better TF universes to have crossover with than Bayverse which barely has any world building associated with it.

Another trailer has been released, showing the FOC Megatron... mostly on Cybertron, but there is one quick clip on Earth.

For those with the Fall of Cybertron game, this is said to be between Chapters 10 and 11 (just before the launch of the Ark).
It probably allowed Activision to be able to produce the game a lot quicker, by re-using the character skins and scenery elements from FOC, and then adding in probably just a handful of TF4 characters and Earth scenes.

I might have to brush up on my FOC gaming, as gameplay of this one is likely to be very similar.

Over 40 playable characters. Sounds interesting. Guess I better start practicing at these games again.

Some of the pre-order bonuses are starting to be revealed... and naturally, there are different ones at different sources in America, so hopefully we get the full package in Australia again (through EB Games if I recall).
But I think the bonus items were ones that could be purchased (in the relevant store) or earned in-game.

One pre-order package in America (Gamestop) has bonus character skins of Thundercracker and Skywarp, and some special weapons. The pack is called the Weathered Warrior pack... so if that name appears at a store here as a pre-order bonus, you'll know what it is.
Another one is from Walmart, with a bonus character of Stinger... but not sure what part of the game these bonus characters are used (could be campaign skins, or escalation characters).

After reading about the appearance of the two American bonus packs, I called up EB Games near me to see if they know of anything coming here, and if so, what.
They spoke to their supplier, and was told that nothing yet, but not to rule it out closer to the game's release. The mentioned that Gamestop is like their parent or sister company, so if EB Games gets something, it could be the Weathered Warrior pack.

Just looking on the EB Games site to see if there are any pre-order bonuses noted yet (which they don't at this stage), their prices I found are as follows...

PS4 - $70
XBox 1 - $70
XBox 360 - $70
PS3 - $70
WiiU - $70
3DS - $40

These will be pretty much in-line with most places, as EB are often fairly average (some places are cheaper, some are more expensive)... and are a good source of used games, so waiting a week or two could get you one for half the retail price.
At the very least, whatever store you do buy it from, all but the 3DS version looks like it should be the same price. (usually the new generation formats are more expensive)

I've also edited the Topic Title to include the Australian (store) release date, as it is different to the American one (the date-line means it is about a day after the American releaseerence, unless your online order with someone gets it to you earlier than a store sells it).

Heh - yeah, I think I only ran into Gok a couple of times and noone else really. Though I just played it solidly for a couple of months and then I moved on to my next bright shiny object

So it looks like PC has been left out in the dark again.

FOC didn't mention PC for ages until just prior to release. I don't know why. perhaps development time in porting from console to keyboard and mouse.

hopefully it eventually turns up on PC

It was noted as being released for PC, but online (Steam), so isn't listed at retail stores with the other versions.

Eb games will have the Weathered warrior pack with all pre-orders, it's on their website.

The youtube video looks to have been pulled, but it is also here.
Most of it features movie Bumblebee, Drift and Optimus, and FOC Bruticus.

The narration by Optimus about Megatron is a bit confusing... as it is while the Movie characters are being shown, but should be the WFC/FOC Optimus talking about his Megatron.
We get Bruticus again, which isn't surprising, as this game is suppose to be set before the launch of the Ark in FOC, which is before the Autobots have to defeat the combined form of the Combaticons.
Near the end after Bruticus combines, we get an explosion and a group of bots being destroyed... I just can't work out if it is anyone important.

Trophy/achievements lists have been released for the Playstation and Xbox versions of the game... for anyone wanting an idea of what might be in the game.

The more I read about it, the more I kinda feel disappointed with this game. I loved WFC and FOC but I just can't feel the love for this one yet. Could be that they are shoe-horning that story into the movieverse to capitalise on the movie being released around the same time.

I mean, I loved the Armada game, yet I have not even seen a single episode. Loved the Beast Wars game too, if only I could've bought the full version.

I'll buy it, but wait for it to become cheaper.

Not as cool as the Grimlock pre-order poster you got with them for FOC. They gave me half a dozen :D

That's what I did in the first Transformers Movie game, just roamed around as Op, Blackout or Starscream destroying their related map and everything on it. Good times :D

It'd be great to see like a 'Destroy all Humans" TF game. :)

I actually sat down one day and spent hours figuring out how you could make a game that mirrored World of Warcraft but it was set in the Transformers universe, what the classes would be (having TM animal partners for the Hunters class etc), locatons, ways to build up your character stats etc then sat back, looked at it and thought 'wow - how fricken nerdy am I?!?'

Does anyone know why High Moon is not making this game? It feels like this game (from the leaked info so far and the trailers) is just copy & pasting stuff out of FOC (Soundwave, Shrapnel, Optimus, Jetfire, Bruticus, Shockwave, Vortex - all look exactly the same) and the other half is going to be your generic half baked movie tie-in. While I didn't like the 3 movie games and loved WFC and FOC, I get the feeling this game is going to sit right between the two - not crap like the other movie games, not great like WFC/FOC, just.... average.

The Universe game was originally supposed to be a WOW type game... but after a couple years delay, it was changed into a regular shooter game.

A friend and I about 7-8 years ago sat down and worked out how to make a game based on the G1 movie. We were actually quite proud of our concept in the end as it didn't stray too far from the movie and each level featured various styles of gameplay... Now to only find that book where I wrote all that down.

I didn't realise it wasn't a full price game. I might preorder at EB since their return policy lets you return the game if you don't like it. I am expecting the worst for the game, but since it's not going to be full price and I can return it at EB I'll give it a shot.

BTW: As a gaming nerd (as well as a Transformers and Apple nerd) I must point out the B in Xbox has not been capitalised since 2005. Also it's either X1 for short or Xbox One, not Xbox 1. We found at work Xbox 1 confuses people more than Xbox One about if it's the original Xbox or the new Xbox.

Thanks Microsoft for picking a name that non-gamers are confused by...

If we are getting the FOC Wreckers toys here mid-year, then the game might help sell them, as people might recognise them as one of the many odd/redeco recolours with new names.

I sort of look forward to their release. Seeming as how fragile these ones are, I need to replace two of them now. The plastic quality on these guys is by far the worst I've felt on any transformer to date.

Another trailer that has apparently been out for a little while, using a lot of the same footage as the last one.
The narration once again makes it sound like there is a Megatron in the Movie Universe while the Autobots are clearly in TF4 forms, but I didn't see either Megatron in this one. (Soundwave was made to look like the main bad-guy in this trailer)

The video explains what the Dark Spark is (the "evil Matrix" concept, that isn't a tainted Matrix, that has been around for a while now), and could have some spoilers (relating to the FOC Autobots).

That was a pretty cool video. Makes me look forward to playing it more :D

I thought I'd let everyone know that Kmart will have this on PS3/360 for $44 in next weeks catalogue. Compared to JB's $65! Hence I quickly cancelled my JB preorder.:D

I think the game is mirroring the movie quite a bit since this clip shows Grimlock on a bridge transforming and the one movie trailer that has actually shown the Dinobots transforming is also set on a bridge
