Don't think you are wrong here, is plastic.
This was one thing that I was told by someone who bought tracks from me.
"The toy looks very cheap"
I normally wouldn't open my mp toys till I deliver all to my other friends who ordered but that comment alone made me open up straight away to see why.
He was not wrong.
I only hope ironhide doesn't follow the same path as road rage, as that will be a let down.
Look at your mp-12 and all your Nissan cars, they are well painted, wheeljack was a bit let down on the white as it's not painted.
Tempted to spray gloss lacquer on it. The metallic blue just doesn't pop but rather embedded like plastic.
If not wrong is the same blue as bluestreak.
Anyway I suspect ironhide is going to be flipping here and there since is the same designer from tracks. I hope it doesn't become a common trend to just transform my toys once due to complications.
Yep i believe TT MP 10 is painted red as there is a small paint chip at the back side (gun storage part). Takara has been using a high quality plastic that makes it stant out usually against Hasbro version especially their blue and red (and yellow for bees) which usually has a sparkly coat or layer.
Unless Nissan will be specifying a certain shade of Red which Lamborghini specified for Lambos as well as the specific yellow for Tigertrack, we may certain see Ironhide unpainted as well as Ratchet like Wheeljack
TT had some quality issues which I believe most luckily do not notice but paint usually cause more issues (bubbles, smudge, uneveness) and more expensive.
With a larger demand for MP nowadays TT may have chosen a safe side while saving heaps of bucks in the process by not painting MPs :(
I think that it may also be because TakaraTOMY are aiming for cartoon-likeness in the colours which is why we're unlikely to get metallic coloured paints or plastics like we saw in Car Robot or Alternity.
Which means it doesn't need to be metallic. So don't make sense either.
The finish is pretty dull, even if is painted Trent already thought is plastic so was I.
Bubble or not, skipping on paint apps is poor, is an excuse for not painting and you are bluffing yourself in saying there are QC issue when all the other cars were great.
Again look at all your other mp cars and admire how well done they are.
If ratchet is bare white, prowl will out shine in colour no doubt and I be forced to do my own custom paint since the Red Cross were taken off.
For ironhide if is plastic red then put a clear coat to give a high gloss.
Yeah i agree that TT may just making it easy on them to resolve paint issues by not painting em. Although most of the first MP cars look great with what you guys have all I can say is that im definitely one of the collectors who got most paint issues, from MP 17 to 21 including 18B with only few paint apps yet they messed it still. i would hope TT would resolve it and not just having "no paint" as solution because we will just go back to "what is a masterpiece?" argument
Weibo user 金属键盘RJ has posted a video review of his test shot Ironhide:

Transformation starts a bit past eight minutes in.

OH NO!!!!
PLEASE tell me that is not the final product as the RED is horrid. I can see its a prototype but you can straight away see sideswipe's red outshine this piece on the background.
Proportion wise he's not pretty. The narrow chest and wide hips dont help.
On a side note i google ironhide to refresh my memory and i get images of the movie version. No idea wtf im supposed to be looking at.
WOW, the bountiful hate in this thread and others for official Masterpiece toys is surprising.
I'm yet to open my Tracks, but everything else I've had up to now which is pretty much all the main releases and some extras I've been very happy with.
The retail cost of most of the cars has been at about AU$45 - AU$55 converted from Yen. the AU$80 - AU$100 mark that they cost locally is a result of import and other associated costs for retailers to get them to Australia and still be able to make a profit on them. it's unfair on the designers of these toys to judge them on the imported price in a foreign market.
The designs have been solid and in most cases, so has the fit and finish of the toys. They are still being manufactured as a child safe mass market product. There are always going to be design decisions made that make a product more affordable but potentially less appealing. Often these decisions are made by a marketing or management person who has no attachment to or understanding of the final point of the product.
perhaps is people are so upset with design decisions and product standards they could make a toy venting thread and put diatribe in there, leave the new product thread for discussion about the upcoming product and it's specific features or lack thereof.
just a thought.
Disappointing but not surprising the negative tone.
We do like to try and 'ruin' things for ourselves these days particularly the more pop culture stuff
I'm quite looking forward to this and really any other unannounced MPs. I take it as a gift to be getting these updated G1 transformers in 2016!
I am just happy to have G1 characters that resemble their cartoon counterparts. Being entirely accurate is not important to me. There is always going to be a compromise between design and cost and I imagine many complaints are a result of this.
Yeah It's best not to really discuss such things on the internet, just have a look at the pics, maybe watch some review by a reviewer you like and then make the call. The Internets a sound board for everyone's grievances big and small, although you often have to go in said threads just to get the latest news oh well.
Anyway I've already decided I'm going to get Ironhide, and when I get him we'll see what he's like. No point whinging about some prototype prematurely.
I'm looking forward to this. I love G1, particularly '84 and '85, so very happy with how it's looking :)
Still not a huge fan of the waist/hips but looking forward to this and Ratchet.
Love the way they've done a nod to the G1 sled.
I'm getting this because hey it's MP and it's Ironhide. I'm treading on old territory by saying the hip kibble is not ideal but looking at some 3rd party designs their hip designs aren't perfect either.
I do hope there will be some decent paint apps, but have to wait and see.
Exactly. By that same logic we cant be postive either because...its a test shot and things can change.
I highly doubt its going to change much from here on anyway. If it does change it'll probably be minor parts to him, nothing that will change the shape or transformation too severely.
I dont think anyone is being overly negative anyway. I've already pre-ordered mine and ratchet. I cant say i dont like his proportions?
I am comparing this mp to all current MPs till date. If that's not relevant to you that's your opinion of it. There is a difference between I am say this is a shit figure and I hope it's not going to be like this in comparison.
As far as my concern goes, it's two things for me. Ironhide paint job whether is going to be bare red plastic and his transformation whether is going to be fiddly like tracks. Call it negative or positive or whatever you want, I think they are related topic when in discussion.
Cheers.
Applaud TakaraTomy's ambition in tackling such a popular yet difficult character-model to work with however I think I will pass on this guy. Mostly due to budgetary constraints but also because TT have demonstrated in the past that it IS possible for them to produce a Masterpiece design I wouldn't be too upset living without and I reckon this is a prahm candidate. It's a shame really because I love the Ironhide character. :(

I wonder when we're going to get some shots of the finished product?
