I must say that Takara has once again outdone themselves here. I look forward to a potential Dinobot release.
Impressive. The toy seems to do a pretty good job in trying to conceal the robot parts in beast mode. I also hope that the robot head will come with a variant toy-accurate faceplate (which also features in the show).
Keep calm and learn Japanese. ;)

Keep calm and learn Japanese. ;) (the text just briefly explains the history of BW and this toy; nothing we don't already know)
Interesting to see that TakaraTOMY's referring to their 20th Anniversary BW line as "Beast Wars 2." Now perhaps Anglophones might finally stop mispronounce "Beast Wars II" as "Beast Wars Two" and correctly pronounce it as "Beast Wars Second." :o
This is starting to look pretty sweet.
Agreed. The beast feet look really awful and I still don't like the upper arm covers. It's too much like the original toy.
I don't own the original so don't really have much perspective on this, but can you elaborate on what you were expecting this to be? Given the animation model was built off the toy and this is built off the animation model, they are bound to be very similar. It can hardly be expected that the leap between the original toy and this be comparable to G1 Prime and MP-10.
I sorta feel the same in that a Masterpiece gives us a more detailed and complex toy that is closer to the cartoon/comic, but as people are saying, the original Optimus Primal toy was already well detailed and just like the show... so it feels a bit wasted taking up an expensive Masterpiece spot when they could have done Megatron, who wasn't animated exactly like the toy (arms, legs, torso, wings) to need a more show-accurate toy... and it could have then come with a bonus rubber ducky that some fans have always wanted.... yeeeessss. :p
Now that would have been amazing! @@
Only problem is that they figure OP (and they are probably right) would sell more than Megs would and was probably a lot easier and cheaper to do as a Masterpiece given what they were working with. Megs would have been a real challenge.
I prefer my original BW OP to the Masterpiece. It just shows how cutting edge it was for it's time and 20 years down the track it still is amazing. I'll still buy the Masterpiece though...
It's incredible to me that even though Primal comes with two swords, blasters in each wrist and shoulder cannons, Takara thought he could do with some more elements so added swappable faces and lights!
If we see more BW MPs in the future, could lights be a feature of them? Have lights been seen before in MPs?
Not widely used by any means then. That's some illustrious company for Primal.
I want MP Inferno and I'll be all over it. Though like Primal, not alot to improve on. Still, I wants him lol
The original Optimus Primal was one of (if not the single) best toy from the original BW line, so it's pretty hard to beat. I guess this is what happens when you try to 'update' toys that were well ahead of their time. I imagine that they'd face similar issues if they ever made an MP G2 Laser Optimus Prime; other than a few changes here and there, there's not really a whole lot you could do to improve that design.
Having said that, it looks like TakaraTOMY have done a fair job in trying to improve this design. And while I understand that there are certainly other BW characters that could do with an "MP Upgrade" more urgently than Optimus Primal, I guess that Primal is the 'safe' character to do first, cos ya know... he's an Optimus. :) After all, G1 MP started with Optimus Prime. Hopefully if this toy sells well enough, it might prompt TakaraTOMY to make more. But again, I can't imagine any BW TF being as vastly improved with becoming an MP as G1s are, because all the BW toys were just so well made. I'd personally rather spend my money on G1 MPs which I personally consider in more dire need of updating.
I knew I'd forgotten someone! :D
I think proportions are the key improvement. Better proportions can make a world of a difference in person. It could be the difference between "not better from the original toy" to"he looks like he jumped right out of the show".
Also small transformation steps that make you go "that's clever" or what people would call a Masterpiece moment, which by the looks of it he will certainly have.
I'd pre-order MP Primal on sight.
The rumour is that there will be 4 MP-BWs to start with coming out this year:
1) Primal
2) Megatron
3) Cheetor
4) Rattrap
This info is supposedly based off a product-showcase conference call between TT and Hasbro Asia.
Add salt liberally.
I like it and I need a Primal to hang with my generations Rhinox
Dinobot needs a MP figure ASAP!!!!
I am very happy with the new pictures of Primal... It looks fantastic. I also cant wait to display him with the Thrilling 30 figures
I think it would be quite simple really to cover up the upper arms in beast mode and have the shoulders for robot mode.
All they really need to do is have a swing-able cover that snaps over the inner arm in beast mode to make up the black gorilla arms, and when transformed, the inner cover can swing around up into the outer cover to make up the shoulders for robot mode. Can you see what I mean? Id be happy with that.
Now if only i could write to Takara with my idea. ha.
The Allspark has uploaded some hi-res scans from Figure King.
Interestingly, it looks like Primal's bot mode gets a screamy face!:

So here's hoping we get a faceplate too!

Dat ass and dem elbowz... :(
I like what's shown so far.
Sure the heels could've been handled maybe a bit more elegantly but other than that he's looking great. The proportions are spot on.
I think they went with this elbow joint rather than a double hinge is to make room for the forearm cannon gimmick.
The shoulder cannons appear to be visible on his back in robot mode. That's a little disappointing.
Still can't wait to get my hand on him though.
Interesting that it's being numbered as MP-31. I'm not fussy on numbering but I thought Beast Wars might get it's own separate line. I never got into Beast Wars when it first came out but my son got hooked on it last year. I'm going completionist on Takara Masterpieces so I guess I'll be collecting these too. My son can have one now to play with and when he grows up he can have mine MISB.

The robot mode looks like the CG model stepped off the screen. Like it a lot.
