Given his US retail price is US$150, i'm not surprised people are buying!
Plus I used a $65 coupon, so i'm pretty happy!
It's mentioned in the IGN article.

That City/Base mode is beautiful!
Also, I think Wipe-Out was once a black Windcharger repaint released in the United line. This TR version looks like Tailgate.
Wipe-out was made up for the comics and looked like a black Tailgate. That is why Takara repainted Windcharger as a Wipe-out toy for United. ;)
amazing the amount of people pre-ordering already when its not due for 8 months.
Yeah I had a $65 coupon to use up. Looks amazing.
The only grip with him is the dinohead sticks out in his alt modes, clearly they couldn't hide (and also implies like fort max there is little transformation, its just mostly folding the legs and flipping the head and or collar around...)
None the less I am impressed, the question, which version should I go for, infact how should I blend it with my current titans?
I got hasbro metroplex, sdcc fort max, should I wait a takara repaint (what else could they do other than use straight black plastic?) or match him to metroplex/cheapest version?
Well it's been announced that he will be 20 inches tall, which makes him the biggest Con ever, though sadly a good 4 inches shorter than Metro and Max :(
Don't get me wrong, I think he will be Awesome! It just blows the display I had in mind
It would be interesting to weigh them. Theropods aren't inherently tall.
Originally the CHUG line was about modernizing G1 designs, but it seems to have gotten more and more slavish to the originals.
This trend makes me question whether to continue with my CHUG collections sometimes, as if it's going full G1 then it's sort of fulfilling a similar role to the MP line, and the MP toys are so much cooler.
That's a good point. I guess in one way CHUG has become giving old fogies new articulation. A cheaper alternative to master pieces. Plus we not likely to get a maater piece trigger happy.
They are very different from the original classics design aren't they?
Also i think we're unlikely to get an mp Trypticon.
Back on topic of tryppy, i wonder if he'll with and feel about the same as metro? I'm fine with him being a bit shorter as long as he has about equal bulk and feel
Wait...
<Googles>
Okay, Google is telling me that 20 inches = 50.8cm (let's round it up to 51cm). That's only 7cm shorter than Generations Metroplex. So Trypticon would be about 1 Cyberverse Legion Class figure shorter than Metroplex. Another thing to consider is that Trypticon doesn't stand with a fully erect gait. He leans forward at about 20° which would naturally stoop his head height below that of Metroplex. So while Trypticon may be shorter he may not necessarily be smaller. There also appears to be more bulk in Trypticons' body whereas Metroplex is a fairly lanky figure. This is why I still consider G1 Fortress Maximus to be the biggest Transformer ever made in terms of mass rather than just height. TR Fort Max may be a bit taller, but lifting G1 Fort Max is gonna give your arms more of a work out! :D I'd be curious to see what Trypticon's body length and weight are.

Drop them in a bucket of water and see who displaces the most. :)
A photo of the actual box for Trypticon... looks like it might have been shown off at one of the recent Asian promotional events... or leaked from one of the Hasbro offices.
Omg just stop!
Price is no object for that thing
I'm just hoping it comes out before takara's take.
I'm holding out for a deco change but otherwise the generations version would be less hard hitting on the wallet
I really hope he's in the Toy Sale this year. That's assuming Big W still is having one since Kmart and Target seem to have bailed on the idea.
Was there a rough ETA for the hasbro trypticon?
Might get that if the price is right
Since the Japanese Trypticon looks to be pretty much the same as the Hasbro released, there is this 5 minute video of the Japanese Trypticon toy, from someone who looks like they might be from a Japanese online store.
He can EAT Titan Masters! Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!:cool::D
A release date is now pretty much official, for June (in America, which would be the global release month), as Bigbadtoystore has put up a preorder for Trypticon, at US$150, for release in June... which would be perfect timing if BigW keep to their tradition of having a Titan Class Transformers toy for their mid-year toy sale.
Someone in America has already got a Trypticon, and has posted up a lot of photos here. (some are here if that link doesn't work)
Tryppy's listed on Big W's toy sale which starts tomorrow. Personally I'm holding off as I have boycotted Big W after the bad treatment I received from the staff when I was hunting down Devastator 2 years ago!
Just given the constant run around by ill informed staff that should have just told the truth instead of feeding me stories. For 2 months they kept feeding me lies until Toys R Us became my saviour, haven't looked back since. Plus that way more TF fans can purchase him, I don't mind waiting especially when I get great service like TRU gives! :)
Asking here as I don't know where else to ask.
Is there...a NEED to modify trypticon's ratchets?
I noticed the ratchets don't like going backwards (as in standing position to bringing up the knee, I swear there is slight resistance there) but move fine forwards and I always moved them with care, but are they THAT bad we need to open them up or can I just leave mine as is?
I know guides exist, I'm just curious to what people think or experienced?

Maybe...?
I blew a hip on one so got him replaced. At the first sign of trouble on the new one I cracked the hips open and modded them.
If I had to choose between modding or not modding I would choose to mod. The breakage is quick, comes out of nowhere, is irreparable, and can't be modded around if it happens.
I would love to see some more reviews about how other people are going and how widespread the issue is. Maybe in the review thread?
