Skystalker's feet do clip in place, just requires a little bit more force than you'd expect.
Movie voyager megatron with silver paint apps. I bought it at $17 and still felt ripped off. It's just such a poor figure. Especially the crappy feet gimmick.
Mine would have to be AM Circuit.
When I was in year 11 of high school and still heavily into Transformers, I sold some of my Star Wars figures to another kid at school for some extra cash knowing that we were all going on an excursion to the city.
I bought Circuit and stashed him away in my school bag to sneak him into the house concerned about what my parents would think of their son still buying 'toys'.
I only bought him because a lack of choice that the store had. Being my first AM, I found the toy to be very underwhelming. In my role playing, he was always the first to die :p
Waaaay back in the '90s...
Machine Wars Optimus Prime.
Robot mode looked nothing like him and I wasn't impressed with the articulation. Couldn't figure out the alt mode for the trailer either.
Vehicle mode was alright.
The only thing Machine Wars Prime has over Thunderclash is a better colour scheme. Otherwise the original Thunderclash toy craps all over MW Prime. The worst feature was how they got rid of the rapid fire mega-missile launcher gimmick and replaced it with two spring loaded launchers. Yeah, I understand the legal reasons why it was done, but it still sucks.
It does go to show that A) Children are getting dumber, and B) Parents have become more litigious.
I would also like to nominate Botcon Thunderclash. The toy didn't do the character justice at all! He's supposed to be a commanding figure but it just comes off as flimsy, and looks pretty dumb standing next to Landshark and Flak. Actually, it looks pretty dumb standing next to anything. :( I wanted him to be good so badly.
Sorry! I meant dissapointed he was in the scout line. They should have done him as a deluxe for no good reason - like wheelie - then I wouldn't need one tofugly up"complete" my scouts. :)
We don't do that here. That's not how we fight on Cybertron.:D
I do agree with you though, detachable daggers would be nice. Anyway, I like Mindwipe, he has one of my favourite headsculpts.
Oh, and for anyone who thinks Mindwipe is disappointing: just look at what I found~

Alright, I have no idea how to make this work, but it looks awesome!
I wouldn't mind trying an Axor/Dreadwing combination either.
that looks uncomfortable :p
It's quite easy if you have the figures. It's not even joined together just have the 2 bots mid transformed then place Lockdown on top of Mindwipe. Ive tried it with my figures when I saw this and it does look good but only for posing ( like a statue) since there is no way you could attach one to the other - unless you try blutack:p. then you can only play with it in bot mode.
It looks like ROTF Lockdown finds better upgrades than his Animated counterpart! Mindwipe's bat mode is also a plus for that figure.
I remember being disappointed by Action Master Thundercracker many years ago. Not because of the figure, or its colours, but because it was a boxed Transformer but it didn't come with a catalogue! Every Transformer in a box to that year had always had the brochure showing me all of that year's toys :(
i was going through a few boxes over the weekend, and came to my armada stuff.. i must admit getting alot of these toys back then i was disapointed in more of them then any other series especially sideways.... he was one i regretted even touching.....
how the toys have changed and progressed over the last 8 years
insaying that they did produce a few gems too
yeah, the funny thing with Armada is that they kinda took a backward step with engineering. Leading up to that we had Beast Wars, Beast Machines and Car Robot/RiD - with all these awesomely engineered fully articulated transforming robots. Then Armada came along and it was like... WTH... Megatron can't even lift his legs up?!? To me it felt like a lot of engineering was sacrificed for gimmicks.
That's true, in some toys they were able to give us well engineered toys that still had neat Mini-Con activated gimmicks too - Tidalwave is an example of this (he's all kinds of awesomesauce :D). Even Sideways is pure jaAM! compared to a lot of other figures in Armada. His robot mode is better articulated than Megatron or Scavenger (there are Happy Meal TFs that are better articulated than Armada Scavenger). And of course, the mascot for Armada's engineering woes would be Hot "WhY mY ShOuLdErS hUrT?" Shot.Quote:

The toy in focus is: Deluxe Universe Sunstreaker
When I first saw the Universe Sunstreaker/Sideswipe mold I really wanted to buy the toy mold because it looked so cool. I'm a TF fan that's way down on the movie spectrum end and don't really have any in-depth knowledge of most of the G1 characters, only a handful like Optimus Prime and Megatron etc. Basically I knew nothing about Sunstreaker as a character but just wanted to buy his toy because it looked cool. (really I just collect to play because im fascinated with the transforming mechanics)
About a month after having bought the cool toy, I read his biography on tfwiki, specifically his IDW comics biography and damn what a douche Sunstreaker is. Of all Autobots I know, Sunstreaker, despite his cool toy is my least favorite Autobot based purely on his character.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I think most of us older buggers grew up with G1, so we were already aware of who these characters were. Also, Sunstreaker wasn't as much of a douche in original G1 as he was in Neo-G1... and while Neo-G1 Sunstreaker may have been a douche, I think it made the character interesting. Flawless characters are boring. ;)
Yeah I like my flawed characters too - Optimus Prime always making a heroic sacrifice that sometimes doesn't really help anyone, Megatron not killing Starscream for betraying him AGAIN and AGAIN until he became Galvatron and Ultra Magnus for not being confident enough in himself lol.
Alternators Decepticon Rumble.
Very disappointing for an Alternator. :(
Optimus Prime is a Christ-like saviour archetype, so each time he sacrifices himself he becomes more and more or a martyr. Most martyrs only become martyrs once... Optimus Prime becomes a martyr many times! But Optimus Prime's death was always in defence of something... either the lives of others or in the defence of honour. Like when he allowed Megatron to kill him after losing to him in a LAN game, even though he knew Megatron had used a cheat code to respawn himself. (reference)Quote:

And I think this is evident when you look at the fandom's attitude toward Dai Atlas. In Japan he is a controversial character who is widely criticised by fans for being too ruthless and lacking mercy toward his enemies. Which is true - he has an absolute "take no prisoners" attitude when he fights Decepticons. Look at what he did to poor Predaking! Now tactically this makes sense. You're leading the Autobots in an interstellar war against the Decepticons which has been raging for millions of years -- why bother letting them retreat? All of the Decepticons that Dai Atlas fought against ended up dead. A quick and decisive victory for the Autobots (and a great way to end an entire series in a single-episode OVA :p). But yet Dai Atlas is widely disliked by Japanese fans because they see him as lacking the most fundamentally important element needed for an Autobot leader - honour and compassion. The standard set by Optimus Convoy (sic).
Megatron did admit to the stupidity of always keeping Starscream around in G2. :)Quote:

I would have to say my most dissapointing purchase was probably rotf deluxe ravage. I expected it to be pretty crap. I got it for $12 at the big W sale and it was still too much.
I wanted it for completeness, but the sheer poor quality plastic and manufacturing, there are mold lines all over it, and it doesn't really fit together well in either mode, make it almost embarrasing to own.:o
I have it displayed as the Jaguar, mainly because theres no point displaying it as anything else.
the only saving grace of the 2007 movie Scorponok, is the excellent paint scheme in scorpion mode. otherwise they would almost be on par.
ROTF scout Ejector! Oooohhhh!!! a toaster!!! IM SOOOOO scaaaaared!
I like Ejector too, though he's just a toaster with a real funky face I think he's awesome in his own way.
Yeh, I got him for the excat rason the HE is a toaster! Just like my real toaster to be a decepticon as well. First batch of toast is fine, next slice, BURNT TO A CRISP! EEEEEJJJJECCCCTOOOORRRR!
I would have to go with ROTF Fallen. What the hell is that vehicle mode supposed to be? It just looks like he has put his back out and it has bits just hanging around (they don't impress the ladies either).
My most disappointing TF purchase would have to be Universe Silverbolt - especially when I paid full RRP ($60) back when it was released (or close to it). :(
For those unfamiliar with the mold, it's basically a robot tucked underneath a shell of an airplane fitted with annoying electronic sounds and lights.
No complex transformation whatsoever either, simply fold front half of jet shell upwards, extend legs, push legs up into torso to reveal head and you're done.
I've had Legends class toys more satisfying than this guy.
I only got Ejector because he appeared in the movie but I still think he's cool.
Scalpel was a real dissapointment. Out of the package and broken already. Flimsiest legs ever. No play value at all.
Oddly enough, its one of my fave molds. I guess its cos he actually looks like how I would imagine Silverbolt. And the fact he is easier to transform, means playing with him is awesome... unlike say Galvatron, who I still need the instructions to work him out...
I like Silverbolt too. Yeah sure, he's a backpackformer, but essentially so was G1 Silverbolt which is what this toy is trying to imitate. For a backpackformer I think it works pretty well. Guess he's not everyone's Cube of Energon. ;)
I also quite like Ejector, mostly because he has such an unusual alt mode. He's only one of two Transformers ever who transform into toasters, and the ONLY Transformer toaster who has a toy (the G1 TF toaster is a very obscure character from the Marvel comics). I like Transformers with unique alt modes - that's why I'm really happy with my Universe Overcharge purchase. He's the only TF who's a taxi! :D We have sports cars and jet fighters coming out of every imaginable orifice... something new is refreshing to see from time to time. Now they need to give us a busformer, damnit! :p
I like Silverbolt... looks very G1 and huge, thought the transformation sucks. Same with MP Rodimus... flimsy parts and transformation.
