i finished rise of the tomb raider last night, it was pretty enjoyable. i think i need to get back to star wars: the old republic for a bit now.
I still need to pick that one up, maybe next pay... something to play before Deux Ex MD is released
Another tip that I recently took to heart while playing Doom 2016.
At first I noticed that I wasn't spinning 180 fast enough with the Steam Controller. I was beginning to feel this was an actual fault of the controller and then discovered that you are expected to use the gyro (physically turn the controller) for that sort of turn. Once again, there is a bit of getting used to it but once you do, it's very effective.
I believe I am now nearing the end of Doom 2016 and exclusively played with the Steam Controller. This is pretty much the best test for it due to the game being so fast paced.
I found what was an annoyance to me playing the new doom. I like how you do the climbing, etc, but I hate the feeling you're a floating ball of anti-gravity. There is no presence or weight to movements. They had the power armour in fo4 not too shabby, should have brought that feeling of being a hulking mass into this game.
I disagree as it's not that type of game. It is supposed to be unrealistic and fast like the original doom. If you start adding small bulky movements, etc you will slow it down into what is every other modern FPS out there.
It took me a while to warm up to it as the first few levels are a bit meh but after the first Hell level, it came into its own. It finally started to feel like Doom in the hectic and fast way it plays with all the demons charging at you and the frantic shooting and running. However I will admit that it can be a bit repetitive and I have noticed a predictability to the level design which negates surprises. On a couple of places you do get a surprise or sense of suspense but when you enter a clear 'arena room' which is build like several before just with a different theme, you are just there waiting for stuff to spawn so you no longer get the surprise.
This game is 'ok' and probably the closest that a modern game can come to the original doom but there is a a bit of laziness in the level design that takes away from it.
nice to hear - I played though once with the keyboard/mouse combo then deleted for space reasons, might re-install.
My Steam Controller arrived today, funnily enough I ordered just in time, as apparently Amazon no longer ships them to Australia...
Will have to give it a good test out soon, but have been playing Bioshock Infinite with it for the last hour and a bit, its not bad - I've gotta get used to the "mouse" part, and the XYAB buttons are in a slightly odd spot compared to my X360 controller - keep hitting Y instead of X, but I'll get used to that.
The grip buttons, or "bumpers" as they call them are a great addition - means less hand position changes while playing. Steam Big Picture does suck a little bit on my 21:9 monitor, but at least the games play full-res
I'm late to the party but I picked up Heavy Rain/Beyond Two Souls double pack from EB the other day. Currently playing Heavy Rain and damn it's fantastic. I love the idea that actions you take or don't take, alters the ending. Makes replayability astronimical.
I see this game more as an interactive movie rather than a game. My missus is loving me playing it, keeps asking me to play more lol. And a certain scene I played tonight had her actually pull the blanket up over her face haha
Had it recommended by a guy at work, showed me the trailer for the next game these guys are doing, and I was intrigued.
Update. Heavy Rain was an awesome game. Apparently I got the best of the 6 endings, though there are even more different scenes to play through if I take different choices
Deus Ex Mankind Divided is out today. The day I go back to work after two weeks off...
