So, Zack Snyder Justice League, the movie we needed but not the one we deserved. Damn sight better than what we got before. I wish we could get more. If the morons at WB had any sense, they'd let him finish the saga.

Godzilla V Kong. First and second godzilla and Kong are great movies that were grounded. This movie throws all that out the window with heavy sifi themes. Hollow earth and special spacecraft with anti gravity something something... It has a lot of cgi sets. It has the girl from stranger things and the kiwi dude from the rapping subway ad/dead pool 2.
Not as good as that which came before it, no idea where they go to from here. Really need a stronger execution in story telling. Fun for brain at door popcorn flick. Least favourite of all the big monster films.
Kinda reminds me of Bayformers. A group of kids running around while big things fight eachother.
Watched A Quiet Place Pt 2 (and thankfully just before the lockdown blocked this movie once again).
It's a very good continuation (not really a sequel) and so it's best to treat them both as one big movie rather than asking which is the better one.
Went to see Cruella because it star's the delightful Emma Stone and what I got exceeds expectations. So much so, that I had to look up the director because I could swear it was Tim Burton (sadly it's not). Such is the feel of the movie.
I thought it was a surprisingly functional film.
When I saw that they were making a second one my first instinct was that it was a bad idea. The first one told a tight, closed story with a hopeful ending. i didn't feel it needed continuing. The second one managed to feel not pointless, which is probably the best it could have been.
Seen Black Widow and based on the post-credits ending it's looking like we may have a Hawkeye movie in the future.
Suicide Squad 2. Good movie. Better than the first.
Black Widow. Great marvel movie as always. Smaller contained story.
Snake Eyes. Good origin story, bad acting especially by the smaller co stars. Sam weaving and who played the baroness were bad. Not up there with Black Widow .
Free Guy. An AI inside a game gains smart thinking. Nonsensical fun. Uses twitch/youtube streamers in cameos errk. Theres a story of code theft among it all. Kinda hammy in acting with big name cameos. Hard to place, nothing ground breaking, average but light fun.
I've been watching a smattering of RomComs with my fiance over the last few weeks.
She's The Man: This film would not get made today. Also, it undercuts its own premise in its last five minutes and the protagonists have no chemistry. Do not watch.
10 Things I Hate About You: Decent light fluff. So far as this corner of the RomCom niche goes (not racy, lite viewing) this is probably as good as it gets.
Wedding Crashers: The humour in this aged like old milk in a broken fridge. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn have great chemistry though.
She's The Man: About par for this kind of film? By this point I'm wondering how these people all live in such nice homes when they don't seem to do anything.
He's The Man: Possibly the worst film I've seen this year.
The Ugly Truth: Two entirely unlikeable characters exist in eachother's space for 80 minutes and then decide they're in love. Truly bad.
How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days: I get the feeling that whoever wrote and directed this really doesn't like women.
The best thing about 10 Things I Hate About You is Calypso by Spiderbait.🙃
Watched No Time To Die and I find it the weakest of the Bond quintology. Special mention to Ana de Armas from Knives Out who does an amazing job like Olga Kurylenko from Quantum of Solace.
Also saw Shang-Chi and The Eternals. The former is amazing and does for asian people what Black Panther does for black people. The latter is not bad but could've been shortened.
I find it tries to do a lot of heavy lifting trying to bring the threads of all five movies together. They very quickly dispose of the Spectre legacy from the last film and then bring the stakes down to a much more personal story - which is more interesting dramatically, but lacks the high stakes adventure thrill of previous Bonds. I also never really understood Safin's ultimate ambitions - the virus he obtains and threatens to unleash is played more as an error of hubris on the part of MI6 rather than an ambition of the villain.
I don't know if it's just age or the quality of the films that I really enjoy them while watching them, but then don't really recall too much afterwards.
The Enternals: Good film but just a bit flat. The pacing is a bit off with the film
Saw No Time To Die last night.
I thought it was a film with really enjoyable good guys (specifically Lashana Lynch, Ralph Fiennes and Ana de Armas were great) but really uninteresting antagonists. The guy doing a comedy Russian accent was about three decades too late for a Bond film.
Venom: Carnage. Much the same as the first except more personal, saving loved ones than the world. If you enjoyed the first you'll enjoy the second. There is a lot of construction in the first part of the film. Action is in the final part
Dune. Great visuals, good acting, so what is wrong with it? Its overly long and story is bland. Many other stories of this theme have been told before and you see what is going to happen in the movie before it happens. If it was released a few years ago, might have been better story wise as it would be fresher. It says part one, will we ever see a part two? Would like to see what happens. Overall great movie that is just a lil long and a bit bored in its narritive.
If you go see the movie, monitor the speed of the movie, when a sand worm raises up in front of a son and mother after running across the sand, to me it appeared that the film hit something similar to 2x play. It sped up for a few scenes.
Dune was always going to be a 2 parter. Just like the books, and the earlier 80s movie(not sure if there was an 80s part 2 tbh). The earlier movie was popular as it came out at the right time, was scifi-y enough as well as being not terrible. Plus at the time was a high point of scifi/fantasy movies.
I enjoyed the first book, but it is somewhat predictable. Obviously the protag boy is the messiah, there is no doubt about that. Haven't watched the new one yet. Or the old one for that matter. Will get around to seeing them both eventually.
Yeah the predictable nature brought it down a bit but story was told nicely.
No Time to Die. Solid effort. I think the problem is they run out of ways in which the baddie can think of a way to destroy earth or people. Very personal for bond this time around, more so than any other film. The action is more realistic than before the modern era, I enjoy the direction of the action. Most of the good action bits are in the trailer. For me a solid effort.
Ghostbusters Afterlife. Go see it on the big screen. Nuff said.
Howd you manage that?
Nandos Perks. Worth signing up to that. They give out free tickets for movies, this time happened to be Ghostbusters
Actually another thing to say, mid credit scene and end of credits scene
I saw Dune, No Time to Die and Spider-Man this past week. All great, Dune took a while to get the gears turning but it got there and I was invested.
Red Notice with The Rock, Deadpool & Wonder Woman in civilian attire
Ok little heist caper. Good for some background viewing on a Saturday night.
Someone made up the Red Notice poster using Black Adam Deadpool and Wonder Woman. Honestly, not a bad movie, decent popcorn flick.
Saw Dune. It's stylish like the David Lynch one but deeper.
Saw Venom: Let there be Carnage and like it better than the first and that's because I'm a fan of the origin issues, maximum Carnage and absolute Carnage events.
The third Spider-Man movie is as others are saying, "the best Spider-Man movie yet". It's a fine example of taking the best of the Spider-Man movieverse and rolling it into one without being accused of trying to do too much at once
Spiderman thread gone. I would reccommend, if you are a big fan of all the spidermans movies (all) then this is for you. Not too convulted, not too whisper thin, hits all emotional bonds.
Matrix Resurrections, enjoyed it. Gets bad reviews from some, but possibly they just don't get the movie. Too much to think about to understand it on the multiple levels. Lots of Easter eggs. A scene right at the end, but not 100% necessary to wait for. An amusing scene nonetheless
The Kingsman. The origin of the Kingsmen. Enjoyable. If you like the last movies youll like this. Set in 1920s. Possible sequel at the end set up. Plays up the accents of germany with the leader of germany a bit too much. It is a bit purposefully stylised in its filming asthetic. Some may hate this. I would reccommend it if you are a fan of this franchise, fun to be had.
Ghostbusters afterlife. Rehash of first movie story with same villian. Replace old nerds with young nerds. Good nostalga trip if you loved the first ones. Some nice throw backs. Great but not the best. If you love ghostbusters then you will love this
Saw the Ghostbusters rehash. Not bad but not mind-blowing, it's just feels like seen it all before. I guess this is just for getting the young ones on board. The same can't be said about Matrix Resurrections although can the young ones appreciate it.
Went to see House of Gucci. You don't have to be a fashionista to appreciate this well crafted Ridley Scott feature. Unlike Madonna, Lady Gaga is an impressive actress and I hope she wins an Oscar for this.
Watched Bram Stoker's Dracula again last night
It had been a while since I last it & the visuals and score seemed better than I remembered
Then there was Keanu.
If there's an actor that makes me want to put my head in a vice & tighten it until I lose consciousness, it's him. & I thought Sophia Coppola in Godfather 3 was a dud. Sheesh.
Studio 666, the Foo Fighters movie. Quite cheesy and makes it quite obvious that is it a silly comedy horror movie. Lots of laughs.
Uncharted: very enjoyable movie but lacking the adult context ie slitting throat and no blood, killing others off screen. Decent for a game movie. Its an origin movie of the two meeting up
Saw SPIDER-MAN NWH last night. For a film that involves this many characters and with the kind of story being told, the plot was not convoluted to leave the audience struggling to follow. Also appreciated that the main characters' loss (from previous films) were addressed. There is a mid-credit scene and an end-credit scene (or end-credit trailer to a future MCU film).
Also saw THE BATMAN two weeks ago. It has a grungy aesthetic and a film noir like monologue. Enjoyable and atmospheric, but could probably be trimmed down by 20mins.
THE BATMAN. Highly recommend. Not your usual superhero movie. Very nicely shot and put together. Dark and gritty with an oppressive atmosphere that tangibly weighs on you. No over the top bullshit. No militarisation. No focus on tech. No crazy costumes. Just Batman, dark and disturbed as he should be.
I'm struggling to think of a better DC movie.
The 'Darth Vader' scene was the stand out for my daughter and I.
