I do think we have things wrong, and that the European model is the correct way of thinking.
I believe nudity should be more acceptable than violence, whereas for us it's the absolute opposite.
Graphic violence? Go for it.
A nipple? WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!?!
Edit: Was checking io9 and saw this article which helps with my view. I should note though the I haven't seen the film in question. In America it got an R Rating, in Canada it got a G.
It's explained why, and one of the reasons is something that resonates with my view in general: the movie contains nudity, but it's apparently just stuff like people showering, something the Canadian board considered fine for kids to see, as it's non-sexual and a daily activity.
Really shows the stark difference in how we view certain things.
