Silverbolt is a multichanger if you are creative.
So far this year my most disappointing purchase has been RTS Lugnut (but everyone else here seems to love the toy or are going along with the joke, I'm not sure), followed by RTS G2 Prime.
Galvatron is frustrating and fiddly to transform, but I wouldn't put him in the same league as Silverbolt... I actually feel a sense of accomplishment (as opposed to disappointment) when I transform Galvatron.
Despite everyone's dislike for Galvatron, I think he's an awesome figure and yes, it should have been a Voyager (so it was less fiddly) but he still rates a lot higher than some of the other Universe releases in my book.
Just because he was a backformer in G1 doesn't make it okay 25 years later when he's meant to be a modern day interpretation of a classic character - where's the marvels of present day engineering?
He probably had the lowest R&D costs of all the Universe figures since someone in the marketing department must have figured that the G1 fanboys would have bought him en masse and still be satisfied with it since he 'embodied' the G1 character, both figuratively and literally.
Yay! Someone that agrees that Silverbolt is one of the suckiest toys!
Lol@multichanger - I'm not that imaginative.
As for Lugnut - I think he's great (seriously) but I agree with G2 Prime.... he sucks monumentally - see my review and you'll know how much I love it.
I've got to say I'm pretty happy with Silverbolt, it is very simple but it's quick and easy, and looks very good in both modes. or all 11...
I also like the transformation sound, the fact that the tone goes up in one direction and down in the other. :)
I would have been pretty bummed if I'd paid full price though. I got it for a steal, can't remember how much though.
3 word answer: Electronic Sound Gimmick.
Behold the wonders of compromised engineering when a toy is designed around an electronic sound block. :(
My schoolfriends and I came up with this mode for Cosmos back in 1985 one lunchtime...Quote:

As Cosmos' tech specs explains, he gets really lonely (and probably bored stiff) stuck in orbit... so we gave him this mode for him to hover in geostationary orbit above beaches and perv on topless bathers. ;)
I like Lugnut... don't quite love him as much as others do, but I like him enough. The fact that I only paid $22 probably contributed -- wouldn't have paid full price for him. ;) But I do prefer him a lot over Animated Luggers.
Worst few (cant split them)
Megatron - 2007 movie
Brawl - 2007 movie
Ultra Magnus Animated.
These 3 must go down as the worst of all time!
I still say Transformers Animorphs are the worst TFs of all time. Can get much crappier than that :)
I like Animated Ultra Magnus too -- though I can see how the shoulder configuration may bug some people.
Which versions of movie Megatron and Brawl are you talking about? I like Deluxe Brawl (even with the shoulder issue, which can be fairly easily "solved") and Legends Brawl is okay for a $7 toy and I thought Leader Brawl was pretty crap. The Movie Megatrons... they're all pretty ordinary, but that's cos they're based on the movie design which just doesn't translate well as a toy. So I don't blame HasTak so much for the movie Megatrons -- Paramount just made him weird looking. Leader Class movie Megatron is probably the worst value for money just because he's so expensive... but I can't stand the non-removable ice-kibble on Voyager Megs (otherwise I would have totally passed on the Leader and gotten the Voyager instead). The feet on Voyager Megs bugs me too. Legends Movie Megatron... pretty underwhelming, but I suppose as the cheapest of the Movie Megatrons he's probably the best value. The FAB Brawl mould is actually okay -- although I think all the FABs are overpriced. Probably worth getting if cheap. Never handled FAB Megatron for myself, but it doesn't look impressive. Robot Replicas are an even bigger rip off than FABs IMO.
Ultra Powerglide. I don't know. I thought its transformation is something cleverly made and then after, I realized where could I fit it on my classics display...
For non-TF, the roadbuster upgrade kit. it was all good until I broke it. Bad quality plastic.
I like ultra silverbolt, but maybe I'm bias because I paid $10 for him :p
I like Powerglide -- I know he cops a lot of flak from people and some folks don't like his orange boobs. They don't bug me so much. I got the Japanese version though... didn't like the Universe version. Although I probably would've bought Universe Powerglide if Hasbro had called it "Hot House" (and made his head match the rest of the body instead of being red ;))
I know some people have repurposed Hasbro's Powerglide as Hot House... but at an Ultra price point, I couldn't justify the expense.
Had another play with transscan Bumblebee last night. In play value it's a nice concept, a bit chunky in camaro robot mode and lacking something in protoform mode.
A dissapointment as both his legs came off. the cockets have a crack in them and now they won't stay in. Also the entry mode doesn't look as good as it could with a few extra pieces and its just the core robot head.
Guess my expectations were just to high
Leader Classes are seldomly worth their RRP. They'd be better if Hasbro didn't keep insisting on whacking sound gimmicks into them.
Depends on what the options are.
With Brawl I totally skipped the Leader Class because I was perfectly happy with the Deluxe Class which I considered a better toy. With Movie 1 Megatron I got the Leader Class because I didn't like how the ice kibble on the Voyager wasn't removable. If it were, I would have happily skipped the Leader and gotten the Voyager (even if the spring loaded toes bug me). Leader Movie Optimus Prime is actually a very good toy IMO - arguably the best Optimus Prime toy made since G2's Laser Prime. :) I got ROTF Leader Prime because it's an even nicer toy! I got ROTF Leader Megatron because I didn't know there was going to be a Voyager Megatron coming out later. :( I'm trying not to make that mistake again so I'm trying to find out what toy classes HasTak's planning on making of each DOTM TF. I even made a thread about it, but nobody's posted. :(
I got Leader Jetfire cos... well, there isn't much choice other than getting a FAB or Legends, which I don't consider "compatible" with my other Deluxes, Voyagers, Leaders...
I got movie Prime, ROTF Prime and ROTF Megatron on sale thankfully... but paid full RRP ($99.99!) for movie Megatron and Jetfire! :( They were both hard for me to find, so I just grabbed them when I could (then later Megatron shelfwarmed... and was put on sale... gah)
I think the only leader class I've paid full price for was probably movie 07 prime. Everything else, I waited for sales on, and at the reduced prices, they have been well worth it, I quite like brawl, the leader class size does the Tank justice. I got ROTF megs for about $45 and in the black deco, while I like it, I wouldn't have wanted to pay full price for it.
I think the voyager megs from the movies were personally a bit dissapointing. from a class that you expect a fair amount of complexity they were both pretty basic. but then that could be said for all movie megs'. I think maybe Movie Megs was a dissapointment however you look at it.:(
Given the white plane/red & gold robot looks back then, he was always going to be a backpack-former this time around. For me, Silverbolt has two main failings, both of which were easily avoidable:
1) The colours. Why isn't the plane mode white, and why is the robot mode that weird cardinal red? I got the Henkai one, which has proper colours (and it's a LOT better).
2) The transformation was always going to be simple, given the nature of the character. So doing him at the size they did was a mistake. Would have been a MUCH better toy if done as a deluxe (or even a voyager) without the essentially pointless electronics. More bang for your buck, and wouldn't feel so damn simple if he was a smaller toy.
So yeah, Hasbro messed it up, Takara did a decent job. But it should have been done smaller (and without Hasbro's stupid colours).
I'm not saying you have to like it, of course - I can understand why you dislike the toy. He has limitations which the character design brings (and I suspect they trouble you), but the designers added others which bring him down further.
Human Alliance Leadfoot. Paid a hefty price for him too. So bad, I feel so horrible!!!
