While I am happy with a MP Wheeljack, I am surprised that it isnt Jazz just because of the amount of repaints that could come from it.
The only other repaint of Wheeljack will be Slicer (unless anyone else can think of one). Which if it does happen I will be buying it, as I am a bit of an MP whore :p
Wheeljack will do alright, and Bumblebee as well!
I don't really think there a lot of choice for repaints for Wheeljack, but that doesn't matter. So hopefully they can move onto other things. Just going through some of the suggestions we have Slicer and a Diaclone homage. I remember seeing somewhere Cat mentioned using Sunstreaker. Ok so obviously different cars, but seems doable as the robot modes are similar. Following with this sentiment how about Runamuck and Roundabout, but again different car (Lotus Esprit) but robot mode transformation is similar. Im suggesting these could be exclusives, similar to how Tigertrack, Sunstorm and Nemesis Prime were. Runamuck and Roundabout would only work as 2 pack though.
Also touching on the Megatron Debate. I have a theory that they may do a G2 version of Megatron as a tank instead. A first release in G1 Colours first, then a 2nd release sometime later in green camouflage. Its a possible scenario, given that they are doing a G2 Sideswipe. To me it would be awesome, because I love tanks. Also it would cast aside that problem of having Megatron represented as a gun, whilst accurate has its setbacks.
Sorry this was a pretty long post :o
Technically TakaraTOMY aren't supposed to factor in demand from outside their market as per a contract they have with Hasbro where each party aren't allowed to "cross contaminate" each other's market. So they wouldn't be taking out-of-market demand into account (at least in theory).
I personally wouldn't want to see another MP Megatron because we already have one. And I personally don't need an MP Megatron to be in scale w/ the newer range. The main reason that I got Hasbro MP10 was because it came with the trailer and Roller (and Spike) and was considerably cheaper than the TakTOM version. Had it just been the cab/robot, even as a whole new mould, I would've skipped it. Same reason why I skipped the significantly retooled MP Starscream and Thundercracker... I don't see the need to "double up" on the same characters as MPs really. The only time I did that was with Starscream, because the Hasbro version's colours were that much better than Takara's (and I found it at RRP at TRU, and it turned out that they used better plastic too).
I might consider a new MP Megatron if it came with the gun extensions; but also depending on what price I could get him for. I doubt I'd pay full RRP for it. :/
Sorry, but a new MP Megatron is essential to me! The first version is really not very good in robot form. They need to produce a more solid/stable version without chicken legs that actually looks more like his cartoon counterpart. I'm hoping they can learn from the 3rd party versions that have been released in the past couple of years, even if it means sacrificing the gun mode's "realism"... we already have 2 realistic guns for people - time for a cartoon/comic accurate robot version!
MP10 is so much better than the first MP Prime (imo) so I'd like to see Megs get the same treatment!
I too want a new MP Megs. I never bothered to buy MP-05 simply because it's crap. Add the fact that it now looks silly and stands out like the proverbial against other MPs (particularly the Autobot cars), as well as the obvious demand and direction of the MP line, I'd be surprised if we don't see him.
Maybe they can redo some characters like Megatron after we've gotten MPs of the rest of the more iconic G1 characters? I'd rather see the MP line focus on giving us new characters who've never had the MP treatment before.
The third party Not-Megatron may have a more bulky robot mode, but it also has a bulky gun mode. But I suppose that if they were to make a new MP Megatron, then it would make sense for them to bulk up the robot mode more even if it may sacrifice the look of the gun mode; though hopefully no where near as badly as on Not-Megatron. Maybe somewhere in between MP Megatron and Not-Megatron (i.e. bulkier than MP Megs but not as bulky as Not-Meg... a sort of 'happy medium'). And to top things off perhaps they could include the barrel extension and stock, and have all the accessories combine into the gun emplacement. And I wouldn't necessarily want it to come with all the same extra accessories that the original MP Megatron came w/... just make the toy backward-compatible with the previous MP Megatron's accessories (e.g. can hold the same weapons, flail can be attached etc.) -- I'd like to see him come with some new accessories, like MP versions of the original G1 toy's rifle and sword.
I agree that there are other characters that should be done first, like Ultra Magnus:D. And the way the line is now I believe that Megatron would come with the U.N.C.L.E parts. But I doubt backwards compatibility for the fact that it assumes ownership of MP-05. Are MP-01/04 parts compatible with MP-10? I've never looked.
