Anyone know much about this Prototype G1 Transformers Ramjet Clear Plastic?
Do prototypes really fetch THAT much (US$800)?

Yeah they do my friend....
Being a seeker fan, I hit this dude up a while ago about these jets he says are prototypes. He reckons they're from they early 2000's ehobby releases but the provenance he gave me wasn't rock solid enough for me to drop that kind of coin on them. They do look pretty cool though I must admit.... maybe not $800 US kinda cool though.
:)
Those were never proven to be prototypes, as there was a flood of those clear toys (mostly Optimus and Starscream) at the time of the first reissues in the early 2000s, and toys that are proven to be prototypes are usually a mix of odd colours or grey.
The last paragraph of this wiki page talks about the clear toys, that were called by some as "lunchtime specials".
The article mentions a single stage that may use clear plastic to test out the parts by being able to see their internal structure, but it sounds like that stage doesn't have them build the complete toys with all parts, as they are only testing the individual parts. The building stages of the testing process are usually with grey or odd coloured plastic (as shown in that wiki page - none of the examples of known prototypes that we've seen from Hasbro or the factory have been completely clear toys.
This is more of a G1 prototype.
