Ooh ahh. Lights up! No wonder there's those glowy shots everywhere. thought it was just photoshopped for effect. Will end up bumping the price up by 20% though, methinks.

Lol... maybe he is referring to your pics Stompy? :p
Yeah it's designed to make it adhere properly to the surface (I believe) - some of the other guys spray a flat coat on top of the decals to seal them in.
Gamblor's probably the better one to shed light on this as he has greater model building and water decal experience.
I actually don't mind the gold/orange version.
As for the blue lighting up, I believe the old red one was the same?
Doesn't it glow under blacklight or something?
Light up action? I'm there! I'm not feeling the head sculpt with the extra bits on it but this would look awesome in gunmetal with blue lighting.

Anyway here's how I apply waterslides. You need:
small brush
small dish of water
sheet of plastic
tweezers (Tamiya black coated)
decal solution (I use Mr Mark Softer)
scissors (I used Tamiya decal scissors)
soft cloth
Cut out decal close to design. Dip in water and set on plastic.
When decal is loose use tweezers to slide into place. Use cloth to blot excess water without moving decal.
Brush on decal solution making sure to get rid of air bubbles. You only have a very short period to do this, any more and it will destroy the decal.
Leave to dry, preferably overnight.

I might invest in this Mark Softer thing as I bought a water slide decals for some kits but didn't want to use them yet since my limited experience post application were horrid. My UC Hardgraph 1/32 Core Fighter lost many of its decals already. Now I just have to use the Softer. Thanks for the tips VP and especially gamblor.
I've researched a bit more in this light up business for MG Unicorn Banshee's. Alas, it DOES NOT have an electronic lighting kit inside at all. As VP mentioned, the clear parts have been treated so that under black/UV light they glow. Otherwise it's a massive conversion job to incorporate a battery compartment, lights and all those wires through the inner frame of a dense Master Grade. Not to mention it would have bumped the price up by 20-30%
Raptor, post pics when you are done. Even if they are crappy quality like mine. It's always nice to see and also prevents this thread from becoming the VP and Stompy gunpla show.
Ah shame, blacklight is hardly the same. More like glow in the dark effect.
VP that Bearguy is awesome :D
Yes, please do Raptor - the more Gunpla, the better. :)
Speaking of which, what the hell happened to the other OTCA Gunpla builders?
Indeed.
I thought it was the most lamest thing ever when I first saw it, but then the gf saw it and wanted it, so I bought one and built it for her - turned out to be quite cool and endearing.
You should see some of the custom Beargguys - totally awesome!
I especially love the Iron Man and War Machine ones. :)
Dunno where the other builders are. There wasn't much to begin with. I know blackie builds and afew others.
Bearguy's are great, I've seen those customs and almost made me want to custom one. Then reality set in and realised 2 things. 1. I'll end up terrible at customizing and it will just look wrong. Or 2. I'll end up doing a great job and love the process that I'll end up making every gunpla I make painted up and customized. I don't want to take either route because time is a commodity and I'll never get through my backlog if I have to spend 10 times the time to paint etc. So no custom Bearguy for me. Just regular brown.
Speaking of backlog. A couple of chips at the towers of kits. Two HG's:
HG Buster Gundam (HD version)
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...usterHDver.jpg
HG Age-1 Normal Gundam
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...rmal-kneel.jpg
And here is the HG next to the AG (Advance Grade, it's really just First Grade).
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...ge-1Normal.jpg
The Buster Gundam is just a repaint with a new piece for a stand and came with a bonus effect part that is way too heavy for the kit. It's meant to be a smoke trail coming out of the tip but it doesn't stay on and if it does it will just tip the mech over.
Buster did show how far HG kits have come though. This was one of the first SEED HG's which was when HG's started to really become more sophisticated and intricate, but still shows some age with simpler sculpted detail, easy build and parts that should have used coloured parts instead of a decal. In this instance the cheeks have orange decals. Compared to newer HG's like the 00 and Unicorn line, these kits have come a long way in engineering.
HG Age-1 was ok. It felt similar to the 00 HG engineering with a couple of new surprises here and there but nothing to make you go WOW like some of the Unicorn HG's do. What's even more impressive is how good the First Grade (or AG as they call it for this series) Age-1 Normal is. In case you are wondering, it's the one on the right in my pic above. The kit looks that good for a 5 minute build with many colours and no decals. I did cheat and used a marker to paint the knees black. Although, note that the legs are static. The only articulation is the pivot on the shoulders and head. Still, it's great that they can achieve that look in one standard HG size plate.
Nice work Stompy! Good job chipping away at that backlog.
Speaking of LED lit Unicorn Gundams, anyone want to attempt this? :p
http://youtu.be/AWZnQR2mIsA
BTW, any of your backlog that you've lost interest in and thinking of selling?
I've got a few that I've purchased and have lost the desire to build, so might be willing to sell or trade them.
I've been lazy.
Still need to do my 1/100 Astraea F.
My flatmate did a HG 1/144 Geara Zulu yesterday. Looks good, but I still like the Zee Zulu better.
He also bought the RG Freedom, which I believe he's going to start tonight.

The display shelf
I was actually disappointed with the MG Crossbone which was one of my Gundam grails for a while. It looks great but the build was unsatisfying. There were pieces which were not cut properly so I had to trim them, pieces didn't fit together as securely as other kits I've put together and the crossbow itself is too heavy to be held in the hand for posing. But as a display piece, its certainly unique in he collection.
OMG! Fungal, where have you been hiding? :p
Nice collection there. :)
As for what those Gundams have in common, well, they're all 1/144 scale Gundams - that's my guess. :o
HG PSYCO GUNDAM!!!
I NEED to get that kit.
Totally agree with MG Crossbone full cloth. Weapons too heavy, pieces falling off everywhere but dang does it look good. If you can get it on a base with a good pose and use a second stand for the weapon, it can look really nice. Otherwise it is a very nice mech wasted on a "broken" kit. Sometimes Katoki is just way too ambitious. This is a prime example and also the MG V Gundam. HG size with the detail of a MG and also transforms! Peices were so small that it's easy to break. Although it has the best engineering I've seen in a gunpla kit so far. The transformation almost has the mech invert itself and fold out into a flat piece. Then there's that arm and legs. I need to build the V-Dash version just thinking about it! Eeee.
Anyway, I totally geeked out then. Nice collection Fungal.
Cat, build that Astraea!!! :p
As for that light up HG Unicorn Destroy Mode. The lighting work is phenomenal! The shoulder lights and thrusters on the back and, as gamblor said, the filtering to avoid light bleed would have been some meticulous work. All in a size of a HG! I'm not too fond of the paint scheme though. It's a little over the top and over worked with the intense amount of weathering. Just not to my tastes.
New pics have been released of the upcoming MG Duel Assault Shroud... looks pretty fab!
Article and pics here
I'm wondering if it will reuse the Strike plates as Assault Shroud without the armor is a modified Strike frame. The kit will tell I guess. Looking forward to Blitz, Aegis and Buster more.
I'm just disappointed that there haven't been any Zeon suits announced as being in the pipeline - where the hell is our MG Kshatriya, Bandai?
Also, I still don't think they've milked the v2.0 Zaku frame enough yet - give us Doble Zabi's custom Zaku (trust me, it looks awesome, imagine Sinanju's gold trim & elegance on a Zaku wielding a mssive Heat Hawk).
Or at the very least, a v2.0 Gouf custom complete with massive gatling gun, not that little one that came on the ltd ed v2.0 MS Igloo one :(
Well there is already a LOT of Zeon mechs out in MG and especially HG. But yes, not enough in comparison to the leads and secondary mechs. Unfortunately this year they are focusing on AGE and SEED. So maybe you might like the UE mechs in AGE and perhaps they can reuse the Zaku v.2 frame on a MG SEED Gunner/Warrior Zaku.
A MG Kshatriya was considered actually. Bandai engineers made a prototype but the four Sub-Arms were way too heavy and the mech itself needed metal rods to weigh it down and support the huge things. The cost of the metal rods, let alone such a huge mech the Kshatriya is means almost the price of a Perfect Grade. They don't think it will be a profitable venture. They have made a MG Perfect Zeong and even The-O but they were simple really, just huge panels. The Kshatriya Sub-Arms hosted 24 funnels and they moved with little arms inside. So it would have needed a lot more plates due to the complexity of it. Mind you, I'd probably bite for a MG version.
I'd rather a PG Unicorn. ;) Due to it's popularity as a highly desired and requested PG, I think it might happen.
:( Fair enough re: Kshatriya
As for a PG Unicorn... LEDs galore I imagine for when it's in destroy mode. :p
Time they did a Zeon PG me thinks - if they're doing a Unicorn, they would surely have to do a Sinanju shortly thereafter? :D
That's something that I'd be all over right away - if it's even just a larger scale MG with the same engineering, I'm sure the fandom would still buy them like hotcakes.
Turns out that the MG Gundam Unicorn Banshee Final Battle DOESNT light up by LED.
Instead its a special material designed to react under UV or blacklight.

At any rate I found 2 other places where you can buy him other then Tokyohunter. BiginJapan.com is one of them. The other is hobbyjapan.ocnk.net. Never heard of the last place but Im going to see if they ship internationally.
VGM out...
1/48 Gundam AGE-2 is up for pre-order!
I wonder how many more they are going to make and if this will be a regular line.
VGM out...
I only have two gundam(s) which were given to me. MG Crossbone like every else has and a turquoise dude with metallic pink stickers and a protruding crotch.
Crossbone was great in the fact that it had so many damn weapons, I gave them all to my tf figures that are mainly weaponless (except the crossbow).
On the other hand though, it just fell apart whenever I barely touched it. I had to glue the cloth onto the shoulders and other parts that kept falling off. I know it is a model kit but yeah, not really impressed.
It was fun building both, but I prefer figures. Although I am tempted by some of those HMM Zoids hehe....
VGM:
I think the Mega Size line will keep going. Probably 2-3 a year. We already had RX78, Zaku 2 and Chars Zaku 2. Then Age-1 Normal and now Age-2 Normal. If Age-3 Normal anything that the leaked pics to go by, it might not happen as it's one big mech (much like ZZ)
KA:
Yeah not a good place to start with MG Crossbone. Very fragile kit with some engineering problems. Although I'm sure the ReZel was much better. That's one of my favorites actually. Kit's are not for everyone, as it's mainly the build and not so much for playability. You build, you pose then display. Better off with the Robot Damashii figures for playable Gundam figures.
Finally finished this bad boy! This guy's posabilty with the gun is horrible, as about the only thing that can be moved is the free arm. Lots of parts interfere with each other so this is strictly a limited pose display piece. That said I do quite like it, the massive gun is crazy excessive.
Pics!

Took you awhile mate, but well worth it!
That's awesome - nice subtle weathering and very well put together. You can definitely tell that plenty of time and effort was put into building it. :)
As for massive guns, you might want to check out maybe ReZEL Commander - he's got more poseability but still packs a big ass gun. ;)
So, anymore Gundams in the pipeline?
Thanks VP, I like the look of this guy on my shelf.
No more gundams right now, as I haven't seen anything that shouts 'buy me!'. I'm just going to chip away at my stash of autos, namely something that rhymes with 'comendador' :D
PWOAR! Sharp as gamblor! Really like the G3 like colours and everything just looks professional and effortless. The real pity is the model's flexibility or lack of as a figure. Maybe on a base? At least his legs can be given a few poses? Well done though!
Mmmm I gotta get myself a ReZel Commander. Loved regular ReZel but the wings and mega gun is a definite winner.
Thanks Stompy. This guy is a nice display piece I like the look of on my shelf.
Finished this guy the other day, MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki - enjoy! :D

Great shots as always!

Hmm, thought you didn't like the gold VP? I guess you saw the way they mounted the gold parts are designed to avoid nubs.
Never actually had the inkling to get Hyaku Shiki in MG form. I'm just gonna wait for the transforming Unicorn version - Delta.
I'm still not a fan of the gold chrome to be honest, but I had to settle for this version since the HD flat gold version is impossible to find and the yellow version is just fugly.
I did consider getting the yellow one and repainting it flat gold, but I stumbled across the chrome version for $50 so I couldn't pass it up.
I'm suffering Zaku withdraws.... I think I'm gonna build another one of those next. :p
So. These arrived today:

- HG Psyco
- HG Age-1 Spallow Type
- HG G-Exes

- HG Baqto
- HG Unicorn 02 - Banshee [Destroy Mode]
Preparing for my planned March build. Time to chip away at that backlog!
I need inspiration.
Half finished kit, and one that has literally been sitting here untouched for about 4 months, one I'd been dying to get.
Motivate me!!
Well here ya go Cat. I recently went on a build binge in the past month. Made all these:

Haha. That's more than enough inspiration.
Love your builds. I wish mine turned out that clean!
What do you think of the Beginning Gundams?
I've been umming and ahhing about them, as I do like the designs.
Worth it?
Well if you are going to get a Beginning Gundam I'd suggest the G 30th version out of the 4:
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...ing30close.jpg
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...ning30side.jpg
You get the original G version parts in the G30th plus all the nice extras and effect parts. The D and J versions are fine but is an after thought and contains lots of stickers. All the blue and red on each are stickers.
The only other one's I recommend from the same series are Bearguy and Zaku F2000. They are both great kits and look boss.
Hmm.
I'm not a fan of stickers (I'm not very good with them), so those Beginning Gundams just became a lot less desirable. (Plus I simply prefer the look of cast parts over stickers. Guess I could use the airbrush, but I think that's just a disaster waiting to happen).
