Fonecrusher: Ultimately I think if you collect toys because you want to enjoy them as opposed to trying to make a financial investment, then you can't lose as the aftermarket value of the toy would be irrelevant. For example I bought 2 Beast Wars X-9 Ravages for $22 each in 1999. Opened one, kept one sealed. About a year or so later I traded my sealed one for a bunch of loose G1 and G2 figures. The ludicrous prices that Ravage seems to go for these days amuses me, but I don't regret opening my first Ravage or trading off my 2nd one (I definitely got at least $22's worth of TFs in the deal, which is how much I paid for the toy - and I don't think Ravage had appreciated that much in 2000-01).

I honestly don't know since my Henkei one is MOSC and I've never examined Ravage that closely. :o

And this is what I intend on doing from here on in (only with relevant characters)... the second one will eventually cover the cost of the both of them :p

Yeah don't get me wrong, I'm not a collector for the financial side of things, a $30-40 profit for a figure like this really means very little in the bigger picture. I'm more just shocked how some figures that aren't well received upon their initial release, can go from proverbial shelf warmers to collector's items in a relatively small amount of time based on availibility.

A MIB Jetfire should go for approx. $250 - $300 depending on the box condition. From memory, a seller at the Parra Fair had one for twice that price which is obviously far too pricey.

Prices for Superion have come down slightly since the KO was released. It should be between $300 - $350. You might even be able to get all of the carded Classic releases for about the same price.

Yup, basically any henkei below $50 is worth it as a rule of thumb (there are some exceptions like galvatron though...)

Galvatron's still worth paying up to $50 for IMO - he's an improvement over the Universe version and I actually don't mind him or his transformation.

I wouldn't pay that sort of money for Henkei Dinobot or Cheetor though.

oh, you're right. There are crap pieces like Dinobot, Cheetor, Hot Shot and Grimlock that one should not pay $50 for. Galvatron, I don't know. The Henkei Galvatron does have very nice colours and paint apps, but its the design that bugs me...

You could only do that if you knew the item number before the auction ended... or just add the item to 'watched items' and wait for it to finish. It is the best way to get an understanding on how much something is worth.

Of course it's a double-edged sword because if there is something rare that you are after which only appears on eBay once every so often, you take the risk of bidding without knowing it's full worth. I've seen many 'rare' items differ by hundreds of dollars over a 6-12 month period.

So I got a legends starscream the other day, i was about to open it and I realised that it was a double sheller, there are two outer shells on the bubble, they are both clued in at the bottom!

is this sort of thing considered rare/valuable by any section of the fandom or should I just go ahead and open it?

I'd keep it sealed and go get myself another one to open (if I was you) - they're only $5 so it's not exactly going to break the bank. :p
