Oh well :p When it comes to toy preservation, one has to ask themselves 'how long are you trying to make it last for - your lifetime or beyond?'

roughly how much would a G1 Pretender beast Chainclaw be worth (to purchase) in todays market
there are a few around at the moment with varying prices and i do not know what is considered reasonable.
MP-Movie Starscream, does he have the same voice bites as the Hasbro release?
Sure thing man. I've been talking to HK toy shop owner here (those that go to Japan every month to raid toy shops) and I think Overlords at the prices I saw when I was there in Jan last year are a thing of the past. I don't even think there will be Overlords in Mandarake because every time one turns up, it'll be snapped up by HK/China/SG dealers, in a flash.
For the record, the shop owner recently got an Overlord back in the same condition as the one I saw that was selling for AU$650 when I was there in Jan 2010 (ie: C9.5+ box, never transformed, unused paperworks, etc) and the shop owner was asking HK$7500 for it, that is close to AU$1000. It was gone in a day, one-day.
Sanity has left the station and is not coming back.
Not sure. I bought mine from Fatbot from a Parra Fair last year. I'd say AU$60-70 loose and shipped? I could be wrong.
I use a wrap called talc (not a brand name). Far as I know, it does not have a brand. Its the type of plastic roll that asian school children use to wrap their books in - available in almost every stationery shop in SG/HK. It's thicker than cellophane and hell of a lot sturdier. All my boxed toys without flaps are wrapped in this. So far, there are no adverse reactions, but in 10 years, who knows.
In all the time I've been in Australia, I have yet to come across a stationery shop that sells this type of wrapping. It's very frustrating. When I was still in AU, I always buy 2-3 10-metre rolls from SG or HK every time I travel back.
(sorry, know that didn't help)
Hay guys, what TF united toys come with the tech spec cards?
From what i have gathered and Zippo reconfirmed is that only WFC Optimus + BB and Megatron have cards. Im looking at auctions on ebay and i realise most of them don't have tech cards... Anyone know what is up ..?? thanks
Does anyone know when/whether Transformers: Prime would be aired on free-to-air in Australia?
From my conversations with sellers in HK, only Bumblebee (classics style) comes with a card and then again, only those released in Japan has the card. None of my United figures appear to have cards. I have not opened them, so the card could be with the paperworks packet? (not sure about that)
Does anyone know if you can get a postage quote from Robot Kingdom before having to seal the deal, I'm currently in the shopping basket area and it looks like the next step is to go to paypal and pay, all it says is amount + "Postage".
I'm trying to weigh up buying now or at botcon for a few things as I don't think I'm going to have as much suitcase space as I am going to need.
RK goes to a second screen with the postage amount before it takes you to the paypal site. And even if it did take you to paypal, you always have a confirm payment option there as well, after you know how much it will cost in both currencies.
cheers, just wanted to make sure. bbts is so clear at that stage of their purchasing system
How rare is Universe 2.0 Ironhide and Ratchet?
Well for me down this way, Ironhide was quite scarce compared to the over-abundance of Sunstreakers, Prowls and Smokescreens.
Ratchet was never released in Australia but was in New Zealand, so in those terms it could be argued that he is quite to extremely rare.
Hope that helps dude, why do you ask?
Ah ok, :)
It's quite weird how much the Classics and Universe 2.0 figures have appreciated price wise on ebay considering they're only a couple of years old.:confused:
Keep an eye out though dude because they're both must haves for a Classicsverse collection and they'll definitely be cheaper than their Henkei counterparts though. ;)
Here is a Henkei Ratchet and a pair of Ironhides, Hasbro and a Henkei.
Universe Ironhide was not rare in Sydney when it was first released a few years back. You could find it almost everywhere. I heard that its now quite difficult to find one. Henkei would be harder to find.
Universe Ratchet? Haven't ever saw one in packaging physically. Henkei Ratchet is pretty rare. I can confirm that its rare even in HK and Singapore where it normally is relatively easy to find figures a few years old. I have not seen a single Ratchet in either HK or SG and got my Henkei Ratchet in December '10 through connections and friends. Expect to pay upward of AU$60 for a MOC/MOSC Ratchet, if you it can be found.
On a side note, the following Henkeis are also pretty rare/expensive: Red Alert, Smokescreen, Cyclonus, Hot Rod (but of course!), exclusives (eg: seekers).
As a collector of Classics/Universe, I understand your pain in locating these two too.
Universe Ironhide was in great abundance when it was released but is getting very difficult (and expensive) to track down.
I traded away my loose one recently and went looking for MOSC one and had to get one all the way from Germany since it was still reasonably priced there ($35 AUD shipped).
The Henkei version is naturally more expensive and equally as difficult to locate too (the few that I have seem, when they do pop up for sale, command over $60).
From recollection, Universe Ratchet was released on the tail end of the line and was in the last wave, along with Hot Shot.
As Hursticon has said, it wasn't made available here and was primarily released in the US (however, NZ also received it too).
The Henkei version is extremely rare seeing as it has superior paint apps to the Universe version and costs a pretty penny if you can find one.
I purchased a MOSC one a few weeks ago (since I had also traded away my loose Universe one) and it set me back about $80.
Your best bet in acquiring these two (at a relatively good price) would be to perhaps keep an eye out for group listings where a seller is selling off a couple of figures in the one lot.
Good luck!
As heroic_decepticon said, Ironhide was pretty common - I saw lots of them around the place when it was out. Ratchet on the other hand I never saw in stores. Was that toy released here?
d'oh! XO
I didn't see Ratchet or Ironhide here at retail. Or Sideswipe either actually.
But then I wasn't up on the sightings thread at the time so you know, it was mainly my own incompetence.
Apparently it's not that great a figure (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FotD5pVwBmc), hmm - I might just be fine with my movie Ironhide then :)
IMO, I agree that Universe/Henkei Ratchet/Ironhide aren't that great and I too prefer the transformation sequence of the ROTF/HFTD/AA deluxe Ratchet and Ironhides.
Having said that though, the latter figures aren't exactly homages to the G1 characters nor do their designs fit in with the rest of the Classics/Universe/Generations line, so it depends on where your collecting intentions lay.
While often the line between Movie-verse and Classic-verse lines are blurred, with these two, the lines are clearly defined - Movie-verse Ratchet and Ironhide don't belong (IMHO) on the same shelf as the Classic-verse characters and therefore they shouldn't substitute for that character.
If you're a completist (of a series), you get the figure irrespective of how lame or bad it may be (such as Universe Silverbolt) :p
I actually liked Silverbolt, because I got it for such a cheap price of $15. Yeah I can understand where you're coming from in regards to being a completist with an entire line. I am tempted to buy either of the two, but they'll probably be on the lowest of my priorities.
Keep in mind that Classicsverse Ironhide/Ratchet was a VERY ambitious toy. Remember that the Sunbow/Marvel model effectively cheated by making half the vehicle mode disappear when transformed to robot mode. You look at the original G1 figures which has the primary robot and the 'mobile deck' - where did this deck go in robot mode? It only ever appeared once in the cartoon -- every other time it just seemed to vanish into thin air.
HasTak have tried to make Ironhide and Ratchet transform from a van/ambulance into a robot that resembles the G1 Sunbow/Marvel model, but of course, all those vehicle parts have to go somewhere. And I think they've done a reasonable job trying to incorporate all that vehicle mass into the robot mode without making it a massive backpackformer like say Animated Wreck Gar or worse still, Cybertron Decepticon Thunderblast. The only thing that bugs me with Ironhide and Ratchet is the way the heads are sculpted looking down (Silverbolt has the same issue) -- but otherwise all things considered I think they did an amazing job lad, amazing. They even fixed that nasty burr in my rotator. Now let's find the Dinobots and get off this twisted planet! :p
Check out comparison pics between G1 and Classicsverse Ironhide and Ratchet here :) Another alternative would be Timelines Ratchet and Ironhide, but I suspect it'd be easier and cheaper for you to get either Universe or Henkei Ratchet and Ironhide over them. And IMO U/H Ratchet and Ironhide are much nicer toys anyway (although I do like how Timelines Ratchet and Ironhide have 'decks' ;)).

Why are some G1 MIB's more prone to have the plastic box insert 'yellowed' than others? For example the jumpstarters or clones compared to say a insecticon.
There are dozens of types of plastics (the combination of 'ingredients' within them), so some are more prone to decay/yellowing than others. Some inserts may be different plastics to others, if they are more likely to be found yellowed.
In the G1 cartoon did bluestreaks car mode have anymore black on it other than the bonnet?
I totally agree with Goktimus here, this toy, while not as elegant as some of the other classics/universe line, is a great recreation of ironhide/ratchet. I only have the ratchet and being that people are so adamant that it was never released here I must have picked it up in the states while on my honeymoon.
The "looking down/leaning can be fixed, with a good craft knife and some creative modding, it's almost as though the original model wasn't checked for clashes properly before production. if you google "fix classics ironhide" or something along those lines there are several differnt pages that used to exist. It has a fairly unique transformation, I recommend getting one not to keep in a sealed box, so you can see how it transforms:cool:.
I'm not a fan of the rest of the Geewun 'Classics', but I do like Ironhide/Ratchet - it is a great mould, a clever puzzleformer that's like a Rubik's Cube - you have to do all the rotations in the right order to 'solve' the toy.
Okay so I have a room that's mainly dedicated to TFs now, however they're just in piles of larger cardboard boxes and do need to be blocked access to unwanted guests (in particular infant relatives that'll just rip at anything because it's a natural thing to do at 3). Any ideas on how to provide a safe container for my TFs? like I want a light type of cupboard that has a lock or something. Does anyone know where I can get a decently priced one? Thanks, Skywarp91.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to simply put a lock on the collection room door rather than getting locks for every single cabinet door? <shrug>
Saw this Gobot item listed on ebay (in the TFs section), and was wondering if it was a KO of the BW2 Decoy Ship, or if the Decoy Ship was actually a copy of this Gobot toy.
I couldn't find the Decoy Ship on the tfwiki.net site to see if it's origin was mentioned. Since that is one cartoon I've never seen (I don't think it has been officially released), I had thought that the Decoy Ship playset was based on something in the BWII cartoon. Now it just looks like a cheap toy reproduction cashing in on a cartoon it isn't even in.
I'd suggest perhaps one of those toddler gate things you can buy, literally expands to fill the doorway, looks like a little pool fence. don't know how effective it would be on a 3 year old though. or where you would actually purchase one.
other than that, ikea sell some reasonable display cabinets with locks, though to have enough to display what sounds like an impressive collection, you might have to spend several hundred, close to 1000 I'm guessing.
The other option is a motion sensetive sentry gun with a 10000 paintball hopper.:D
