Some awesome modern renditions of some space classics including this beauty:

Thats a nice way of making a smooth surface by having the chassis built vertically laid horizontally flat. A bit Star Wars inspired with the grey and little bits and bobs everywhere but very very nice. Except for the technic/bionicle tail fins.
Could've sworn I posted this before but here goes again, K-Mart has sale prices on new Lego sets (for them anyway)
Magna Guard Starfighter - $60, save $15
V-Torrent - $80, save $15
Coast Guard Platform - $69, save $15
New (Massive!) Technic truck $139, save $36
The best value is the Magna Guard which equates to a 20% off sale price, the highest I've seen Lego get discounted for (other than on clearance). I'm definitely getting that this time. Last time I wasn't sure about $65 but this is about the best I'll ever get. The Coast Guard Platform and V-Torrent look very nice too but I'm going to wait out on those not to mention that Agents is something I'm hanging out too.
Was the truck set 8285: Tow Truck?
or set b8297: Off-Raoder? Nice price for it but I have no room for more gigantic Technic sets, as fun and time consuming they are to build but thats a damn tempting price.
I call your starfighter... and raise you TWO starfighters (or two renditions of the same actually)...

Hey, just a Q for those with the classic space sets, Mr Digger. :)
Anyway, does anyone have any of the classic minifigs with the 193a2 helmets (specifically blue in colour):
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=193a2
Or do they all have the 193b2:
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=193b2
It's easy to tell apart, look for the line on the bottom of the chin strap that continues along the side of the helmet.
I noticed that all of the blue figures that I have have the 193b2 helmets instead of the 193a helmets that peeron says they should come with. Was it a common thing to issue them, or have I just happened to get the sets from people adding in later helmets?
I also have a quite a few yellow figures with the b helmets too, but I also have other yellow figures with the a helmets. I also have one white figure with the b helmet, but all the rest have the a helmet.
It's just all of my blue figures have the b helmet. :(
EDIT: As for those cool looking sets posted above, does anyone else wish this guys would put together a parts/build guide for them? :)
I can't tell right at this moment MV as am at work but I think I have mainly b helmets as opposed to a in the blue colour. I also have replaced 1 or 2 with the even thicker chinstraps which the visors fit onto perfectly.
Yes but with all these new Exoforce I have the temptation to create my own brilliant custom starfighter or mech is really getting to me.Quote:

Ok just checked MV and someone is/has making/made a big booboo.
On Peeron it says that the thin chin strap 193a came on nearly every set containing a blue helmet with the only set containing the thick chin strap 193b being the XT 5 and Droid.
I don't have the XT 5 but every blue spaceman I have has the 193b helmet and MUST have come in all those sets that say came with the 193a.
Unless I lost or had stolen every blue dude from my collection and somebody secretly replaced them with 193b helmeted men without my knowledge.
I'd inform Peeron and Bricklink if I wasn't so damned lazy.
I find Bricklink and Peeron sometimes have different parts listed for certain sets. For example, on Peeron some of the space sets have grille tiles with the groove listed for some sets while on Bricklink, they have the same set with grooveless grille tiles. Normally I wouldn't give 2 figs since they are essentially the same part but since technically my sets are not complete if they don't have the correct parts, I am giving 2 figs. Unfortunately I have no way to verify which site is correct so I just use my own judgement and I pray like buggery that I'm correct.
Yea, the three sets I have with blue men are:
6805
6808
6824
And I can see for sure that on 6808 the picture has the fig with the B helmet, and I am pretty sure the picture on 6805 looks like the A helmt.
I'm not too sure on the space dart though (6824), but it does look like an A helmet.
So is this also a screw up by lego themselves?
I noted one set had a several parts different.
but i didn't worry I was building it from scratch..

One of my friends just sent me this picture.
Do want!
These custom Dragonball Z Lego minifigs are ace.
oh man those dragon ball z figures are so cool.. mixing two of my favourite things together, lego and dragon ball z, how could you go wrong... they look so professional too, like if they were an official lego product that's what they would look like
We need a salivating smilie, we really do.
I love that even minor characters like Popo and Chiaotzu have been given the treatment.
(and for the record I would happily spend far too much $$$ on DBZ lego sets if they were ever released.)
On a different note, does anyone here know anything about the "Avatar" Lego sets at all?
Brickset only have two sets listed:
3828 Air Temple
and
3829 Fire Nation Ship
The ship looks alright but otherwise lacking detail for such modern sets. Although props to the ship not using a giant "ship mold".
Impressive custom minifigs up there.
Thanks for the links Stompy, so it is only those two sets, and from what it looks like they aren't in release anymore (not in legoshop). Quite expensive prices from online stores too, considering neither set looks all that big or detailed.
Air temple is tempting, especially for Momo and Sokka minifigs, if there was an Appa figure I'd be buying this quickfast!
Would have been cool if the line was continued, some of the 3rd season locales would have made very nice sets.
Those looking to get any Lego sets, particularly Mars Mission or Agents. Target is having 20% off Lego for a week between Sept. 11 - 17. Time for me to get the remaining sets I want.
I know Target has:
- Agents range Missions 1-7 (7 appears to be exclusive to them for now)
- Mars Mission - Hypersonic, Alien Ship, Crystal Reaper (Ultra Drill Walker appears to be exclusive ot Myer for now)
- New Technics bar the 4wd (Kmart has the 4wd at a much cheaper price even after 20% off)
- All new Bionicles (including the new vehicles)
- All Creator sets.
Personally gonna pick up Agents Mission 7, the Creator Transport Ferry and maybe that huge Bionicle (Red) Vehicle.
So those sets you've had since new with the blue space dudes?
It's not easy to find the 193a blue helmets. I have one coming from a bricklink order, along with a white and three yellow a helmets.
I also checked the motorcycle set 6654 I have (The only other set with a blue helmet that I have), and that one has the 193a. It's only the space ones I have that have the B, but I got all of those 2nd hand.
I'm prepared to go out on a limb with this assumption and say that no Space sets came with the blue 193a helmet as by 1984 when blue dudes appeared in Space sets the 193b was already out. Any blue 193a's are going to be from earlier Town sets that had helmeted minifigs in.
It's funny though, when looking at the offical lego pictures, (instructions), I could clearly see on some of them that they should have had the 193a helmets. :) So yea, back to what I said earlier, could it have been a cockup by lego themselves in taking pictures of things and then changing what they actually put in the sets? :)
Oh gosh I do hope we get the upcoming Lego Batman Happy Meal toys.

He is one helluva a mean mech. Arguably my most favourite to date though I did have to make a few mods to get everything fitting more snugly as well as balanced. The original design up on the Lego website was too front heavy with the chest. Very awesome and highly recommended.
Taj Mahal up for order on Legoshop.com :

LugPol goes to Town
It's stuff like this that blows my mind away. It's not just the scale but the intricacy of the design. From the roof tops to the columns to the vehicles, there's just so many places I scream "how".
Dr. Monochrome's Monodome
Can someone show/tell me how that wall curves so much when the pieces all appear to be straight?
I think they use a bunch of these (a) and these (b).
The trick would be that they are not solid blocks. You can see here that they are hollow. Attaching (a) to the back of one of the boxes, and (b) to the front of one, they can be joined and put on an angle. The lower one is build up on the front facade to make it look like one solid wall.
Is there a reason why the Lego Castle sets suck so much? I remember the classic stuff was so much better. These days, a lot of the castles look like incredibly underwhelming. I saw that Skull castle last week or something and it was barely even a castle. Seeing an online auction of a real castle makes me very unhappy.
(And yes this affliction is taking hold of me!)
I reckon castle is the best of the modern lego lines. But thats just my opinion.
It's true that, for their price and box size, many lego kits these days are very underwhelming. The size of the boxes being the most misleading attribute. The Skull tower isn't really a 'castle' sized kit, more of a 'tower' kit. The actual kings castle set is the largest castle set in the current line but I don't expect it to be any less underwhelming.
I think it is because Lego is focusing more on the facade of the castle, and actually most sets. I remember some of the older Western Sets. The Fort Legorado (or something) was awesome because it looked good from all angles. Now, I find, that a lot of sets only look the part from the front. Some of the air-craft sets are good examples. They focus on the top down or front views, never/rarely doing much detail on the bottom of the hull. Usually just a bare flat piece that they used for a base.
I was looking at the Creator stuff at Target today (the car/truck one and particularly the three dinosaurs one) and it looks like it's really good. Would you legomen recommend it?
Ok I just read Stompy's comments on the Lego Acquisitions thread about the Dinosaur one and I think I'm going to be tempted to buy it.

pretty poor song, but the video clip has lego in it.. i like the break-dancing lego-bot
More reasons to love Wall-E.
So does anyone know when 4210: Coast Guard Platform (City - Coast Gaurd set) is going to hit the shelves? It's one of the last few Lego sets of this year that I want.
Well it says on the official website that its available now... hopefully it wont be a overseas store only release :(. looking at it, I'd like to get one as well
