Would you want to see Dinobots combining?

Dinobots as a concept (Gen1 themed, which has been homaged/reused over the years in many forms), even dabbling in a couple of combiner forms during that time (Energon & PowerCore Combiners)... should they be a band of individuals, or would you prefer to see them designed/written as being a combiner group?

- Never, they should stay as individuals in both story and as toys.
- Only in story, not as toys (because Hasbro will screw it up).
- Only as toys, not in story (because the writers will make it lame).
- As toys and in story, because it would rock.

And would your answer still be the same if the Live Movies introduced the Dinobots... as a team or a combiner.

I have always found the idea of a G1 Dinobot combiner repellent. There are countless subgroups that don't combine, there's no reason why the Dinobots should and gestalts always result in weaker individual toys. I hate the concept so much that if they do make an official G1 Dinobot gestalt toy, then as of this moment I intend that to be my cue to drop Transformers forever. One of the reasons why the Dinobots are so awesome is because they have heart and guts and don't need to combine into some lame gestalt robot to kick butt. Anyone who's ever read Marvel #27/UK #111–112 (versus Trypticon), UK #135–136 (versus the Predacons) or Maximum Dinobots (versus Shockwave and Scorponok) should appreciate that. Leave the Dinobots alone!

It's certainly very well detailed, using Gen1 toys, but it just looks too much like the cartoon Menasor, in that it is just a robot with dinosaurs/cars stuck to it's limbs (Sludge looks really bad, like a tumor :p ). There is a lot on that figure that doesn't come from the five member toys. As impressive as it would look in a cartoon, I'd love to see someone create a combiner that had the bulk of it from the individual toys.

I personally really enjoyed the fight between the Dinobots vs Devastator in Heavy Metal War and in Transformers The Movie. Come on -- the first time you saw TFTM our hearts dropped with,

Then after that Devastator was just unstoppable, tearing Autobot City apart. Then Optimus Prime's shuttle arrived and what's the first order Prime gives?

YEEAAAH BABY! How exciting was it to see the Dinobots drop from the sky, transform into their Dinobot modes and just bring on nine colours of Smackdown on Devastator @$$! Booyah! Sure, the Dinobots got thrashed too, but they stopped Devastator! He was just sitting on his butt half buried in the side of a building -- that was the end of his rampage! The Dinobots didn't need to combine. Likewise on Quintessa when Hot Rod and Kup were swarmed by Sharkticons and all hope seemed lost - pow - here comes the freaking Dinobots! :D

Having said all that, if they did make a gestalt team toy set, I'd buy it. Hey, I bought Mega Dinobot... it couldn't possibly be worse than that, could it? :p But nonetheless I'm not an advocate of the idea.

• Grimlock
• Sludge
• Snarl
• Swoop
• Slag

Then NO!

I am perfectly ok with the idea though if it involves a sub, splinter or entirely different group who also happen to be known as the "Dinobots" (Perhaps such a group could take up the "Dynobot" title?) that do such a thing however. :cool:

They can't combine without Paddles.

Agreed. As long as its not the above team then go for it. There's plenty of other dinosaurs left. Could you imagine how dumb the combined form would be if Grimlock, slag, swoop, snarl and sludge would be?

The Dinobots are heavy-hitters, possibly the heaviest hitters there are in the Autobot ranks. They don't need to combine, they can already overpower just about every TF short of the combiner gestalts (and up) just as a team of individual members. When the Constructicons form Devastator in Heavy Metal War that's them leveling out the playing field.
Would a well-realized Dinobot combiner toy be awesome? Yeah, it would - so would a well-realized anything combiner team. But it'd also be overkill, and when you get right down to it they're humungous fire-breathing transforming robot dinosaurs. How much more awesomeness do you need than that?

Yes, I agree. A group of new Dinobots being a gestalt team would be fine -- just not the original core five characters being a gestalt. They were going to do something like this for the 1986 line up as a Scramble City style gestalt (which would have given us our first Dimetrodon TF long before Sling), but the idea got canned. Imagine if HasTak released, as part of Classicsverse, a set of 6 Scout Sized Dinobots that combined into a gestalt. Their alt modes would be:
* A tyrannosaurus-Rex (leg)
* A stegosaurus (leg)
* An ankylosaurus (arm)
* A triceratops (head/upper torso)
* An apatosaurus (mid-torso/waist)
* A pteranodon (arm)

...then repaint the whole set as Dinoforce (and possibly retool/repaint as Classicsverse Monstructor)! :D

Summons up my thoughts nicely. Lets face it combining toys need sacrifices, I'd rather have a group of nice, cool looking Dinobots than a bunch of neutered dinobots that combine into some large looking block of crap.

Dinobots no need combine, they tough enough without it.

As cool as dinosaur alt modes are, I'd rather they left them exclusively for the Dinobots (G1 continuities of course).

Makes them stand out, makes them special.

That is so awesome. And I am amazed at not knowing anything of it, since it has been out for 8 years now. I know it is obscure (only released with a UK DVD release), and hardly embraced by the fandom... but I'm just stunned that I'd never noticed it (or remembered it if I did come across it - it was during a time when I was losing interest in TFs).

Sorry for reposting a link to that thing, but it's true dammit - the Beast is basically Abominus with a different insignia and an even more stupid creative design.

After reading the current RID Annual, it's interesting how IDW Monstructor has those freakish little arms - was the design influenced by 'The Beast'?

IDW artists does do a very good job at carrying off the freaky idea :)

I'm going to say no they should not combine, it's just not the Dinobot way.

Let those other teams of big wussbots combine the Dinobots are too tough for that.

Besides the Dinobots are all big fans of personal space, you can barely get them to stand in arms reach of each other without a brawl ensuing, let alone combining.

I couldn't agree more.

I'd like to see it done once properly. Then leave it alone. I find the concept interesting and think it would be a great toy if executed if some thought.
But thats all. I don't want any story. Just 1 toy

I was all for it - sounded cool initially - but the more responses I read, the more I agree that the Dinobots are awesome in their own right. So mine's a 'Never' vote.

I do like the look of that big custom, but it does look a bit like he's being attacked by a bunch of horny dinosaurs. (sludge especially)
In the comic strip it doesn't look like they want to combine and i'm not comfortable with it if they're not comfortable with it.

Not really. The only thing "dino" about Dino-Force are their outer shells. The robots themselves transform into mechanical monsters. Like Gouryuu's shell is a T-Rex, but the robot is... whatever the hell monster Icepick transforms into. That. :p
