Have you had others MESS WITH YOUR TF'S AND BREAK THEM!?

Some people just don't respect a persons collection! They seem to be totally ignorant of:

a: the amount the individual figures mean to you. Even after 1100 figures I still remember when, how or from whom I obtained each one.

b: the value of the figures. They don't realise that what looks to them like an old plastic toy can be worth hundreds of dollars because of it's rarity.


I've had some incidents over the years: :mad:

1: THE MAIN BETRAYER
*At my 30th my wife's cousin, his mate and his girlfriend went into my Transformatorium room where he dropped his pants and his friend took mobile phone pics of his girlfriend holding some mini-cons around his butt-crack
*A year later we were going to play a game of Transformers Monopoly that I just got imported. I decided (stupidly) to use my 1984 mini autobots as markers. While I went to the next room he picked up Gears and started bashing him around the board. Subsequently Gears left shin guard broke away. He then to try and illicit laughs from others hid Gears at the bottom of a bowl of sticky, sugary lollies.
*At our wedding two close friends made a huge board for everyone to sign. The board was black with our names in the middle with a giant Autobot and Decepticon symbol either side. People were supposed to sign it with a silver pen - instead he drew a huge pair of boobs in the middle.

Needless to say I refuse to talk to her relative anymore, and he knows to stay away on pain of pummelling (and the sod just did a runner on his 8 month pregnant wife so I was proved right about his morals).

2: LAST WEEKEND
*Last weekend we had Sarah's Baby Shower/My 35th Birthday Bonfire. During the baby shower 3 of the women from my work went into my study (bear in mind they are all mature women and had NOT been drinking). With our impending baby almost here almost all of my TF's are packed away except for a bunch of my Diamond Select and HardHead TF busts, some TF headknockers and a bunch of Robot Heroes and Bot Shots on the shelves in my study. These 3 women proceeded to take my rare, expensive busts down and put them in what they thought were funny but precarious spots all over the room for me to discover later. By the time I discovered this many hours later, the cat had knocked my Soundblaster statuette onto the floor, causing damage to it. These women when confronted just laughed about it until I told them of the damaged caused, and yelled in such a white-hot fury than one left the room and cried for half an hour.


None of these people who committed these outrageous sins seemed particularly repentant and if anything found my incandecant rage to be a source of humor. When I said it would be the same as 'me slapping one of their kids or pushing their kid out onto a road for laughs' they just said to not be stupid. Needless to say I have many other friends who would never dream of touching my collection without my express permission, and many who refuse to even hold one when offered for fear of breaking it.


Do people in your life respect your TF collection? And have there been instances where they haven't and the conequences have been grave? :mad:

Fortunately I only had other people damage my Transformers when I was a kid, but there are two people I'm still pissed off with to this day because it happened when I wasn't around (i.e. I was away and my parents entertained their friends/kids/etc. with my Transformers.) If your rage is a source of humour just stay calm, and send them the bill for complete replacement at current value.

I've had a couple of TFs broken but only when I was a kid. Some guy broke Laserbeak's leg off and my cousin lost the clear piece on Grimlock's back. Small change compared with what happened to you.

I guess some people are so disrespectful and self centered. If this is just a glimpse of their attitude I wonder how far they go in other aspects of their life?

Wow.. sorry to hear that BigTFTrev. I completely understand how you feel. Fortunately I don't know or hang around with anyone who is so disrespectful that they would just go into my Transformers room uninvited and start touching and breaking things. If that ever happened to me they wouldn't be visiting my house anymore, especially if they are not listening to my concerns or taking it seriously. (My family completely understands the value of my collection and wouldn't ever dream of touching any of it at all.)

I just get the impression that people such as the ones you encountered are so uneducated and self centered that they have no idea how to treat other people with respect or decency, nor understand how valuable Transformers (or any toy/model/die cast, etc.) collectables can be - especially those busts and statues! How would they like it if you started playing tea party with their precious silverware without their knowledge or permission?

Seriously some of us spend literally tens of thousands of dollars on this hobby... those people should understand that. Perhaps placing a lock on your Transformers room will help prevent any future misconduct if you can't avoid people taking an uninvited tour of your house in future.

I also don't know anyone even remotely that bad in my personal circle of friends and relos. Perhaps it's because most of my friends are geeks who collect toys, comics, DVDs etc. themselves. ;) But even my Mundaner friends would never dare dream of doing something like that... it's just so ... awful!

If anyone ever did do that I would absolutely expect them to compensate me. That's just part of being a responsible person. I once accidentally scratched someone else's Super Speedbreaker -- I gave him a spare loose G1 Sixshot as compensation. I've had some other people (adults) who've accidentally damaged/broken my toys and they've compensated me too. It's just the right thing to do! If you've done something wrong, own up and fix it. It's what we teach children.

Sorry to hear BigTrev. Do these women know how much you value your collection?

For these women and others, they have no idea what your collection means to you. For them, it's just toys. They outgrew them and therefore is just rubbish with some sentimental value. Not really valuable from their point of view. Imagine if you told them about AFA grading. ;)

I can see where they are coming from saying since kids isn't equal to toys.

For these casual acquaintances, I guess we have to set the house rules when they visit.
I usually lock rooms back home that I don't want anyone to access. Unfortunately in Oz, locks in rooms isn't the norm.

Not everyone has a collection. For me, since I don't know the value of stuff - i tend to be very careful. A simple vase could be very expensive. Even stuff at work that I use or equipment I could break could take a lot of money to fix.

If ain't mine, better be careful.

Different people have different "boundaries", I remember having guests who thought it was perfectly okay to rifle through shelves, cabinets, personal belongings and eat anything they happened to find. If these differ from your own or even the 'majority' it can be VERY hard to understand this behaviour.

These people don't understand collecting and are most certainly fishing for a bit of humour from your reactions to them messing with your collection.

My advice, like others have said, is to put a lock on your study or set some firm ground rules for all guests. You have more than enough citeable examples of how idiots have cost YOU money. If they still don't understand, just ask them how they would feel if you just keyed their car. It's equivalent to the same thing.

I think it's just a matter of respect. I don't care how much something is worth --you don't go and wreck stuff that doesn't belong to you!

Accidents happen so it's not always respect. Disrespecting someone deliberately is a cause to discontinue the friendship/acquaintance or whatever relationship you have.

I think the value is important. We brake something we can't afford to replace, it's a very big deal. If it's affordable/replaceable, then it's not a big deal. The big deal would be if it had sentimental value. It's not replaceable even if the value/cost isn't high.

Not a transformer, but my daughter broke my Centurions Jake Rockwell figure after being given it to her by my wife who thought it was a junker by virtue of the fact that it was just sitting on the floor on its own rather than being immaculately displayed like all my other stuff.

"You're such a perfectionist with displaying your stuff that I thought this was a junker!!!"

As much as I was pissed, I can't get mad at my daughter and as for my wife, she is right to an extent because normally I dont keep anything lying around in my collection room regardless of whether its a junker or not. So I guess she was only acting based on what she knows about me and my character traits. But yeah, some real c#*ts out there. :D

I would tell them what they did, bring up the ebay prices of what they were handling and as well as what they broke - might make some realise what they are actually juggling. And if they still didn't "get it" i would work the room until i got myself invited over to their houses.. :eek: clumsy me.

Also, some of us haven't run into these problems but with your run you def need to secure that room no matter the cost. And i wouldn't put the key on your keyring because that jackass would find it.

Hey I have a story to tell, it from before I started this collecting game :D

Ages ago, we had a family friend's son from overseas come and stay in our house. He was there for a while and was working casually. Anyway he wanted to travel, and so he left. Anyway I had this feeling about his character which didn't feel right. You see when he was telling a story or experience, some of the stuff seemed far fetched or unusual, and this was common in all conversations with him. So I thought he is telling a few lies, I'd like say is that for real? he said that it was.

So we were relieved that he was gone. Anyway hes gone for a few months then he turns up out of the blue, with no notice, and says he needs a place to stay. We allowed it but ya know its like we had no choice. He was supposed to be leaving the country in a day or 2. With his baggage he had some electronics with him. This struck me as unusual. Anyway to cut a long story short we had bad vibes about him. When he left I noticed some stuff was missing, stuff Id put away out of sight.

Anyway my transformers were gone from my childhood. But the accessories and backing cards were left. But the thing is I'm not a 100% sure, but I believe he was responsible. Now Ill guess why he took them he didn't like me, or sensed I didn't trust him . Afew other stuff was gone, but nothing of value. He already left , but we contacted him later to have our say. The next day he left the country. Anyway the police knocked on our door a day later or so, said they were looking for this guy. The reason was something to do with hed done wrong to someone else. They just missed him.

Sorry for the essay by the way. Im glad I wasn't collecting at this time, imagine the damage and loss which might of happened. Anyway this event, probably set me off on collecting as I was wondering if there was a way to buy g1 toys. See I was pretty ignorant, my brother said have you looked on ebay? yeah and just imagine the rest, but I think it needs no explaining :o

my older brother broke a few of my tf's when i was a kid when ever i'd upset him was really frustrating !!

My wife broke the arm off Lord Zarak. Admittedly the arms were way more stiff than they ought to be. Can't really blame her too much for that.

My Mum broke the metal waste piece from a spare actionmaster Mainframe. She was trying to get the metal bit out and ended up breaking the metal bit. Which was the piece I wanted to get out to replace on another figure. At the time I was pissed, but something so small doesn't bother me now.

My Dad stepped on a backpack and broke Dragstrips head off which at the time was attached to Motormaster as Menasor.


Back then, I had little funds and what I bought I cherished. Now, I realise how annoyed I got was pretty over the top.


As for your situation Trev, I hate when people come into your home and move things around. They have no right to do that. I can understand picking something up and looking at it, but to deliberately move them to another place is downright rude. Some peoples values do suck when it comes to other peoples possessions.

Yeah, those women were wrong to do that. There's the accident factor of the cat's involvement, but that wouldn't have happened without their actions.

At least their actions weren't malicious. They were misguided and rude, sure.

I think the 'pushing their kid onto the road' comparison is WAY over the top though. Maybe 'incandescent rage' was disproportionate to the situation? Maybe you should have expressed your displeasure, and told them you expected that they, as people with good manners, would replace the damaged items, and that you're extremely disappointed they would do something like that when a guest in someone else's home.

Using that comparison would put someone offside pretty quick, I'd imagine. If they pointed out it was a stupid comparison, well, they were right, no offence.

Though it was guided, it was still an accident.


*I am surprised they did this to statues. Toys I can kinda understand due to the kids plaything mentality, but people usually assume statues have some value. And it's not like you can pose statues in a rude way anyway.

I agree 100%, even if innocence is assumed, the party/s should ask permission to touch what is not theirs

Thank god I don't have experiences like this. All the people who know and have seen my collection knows to just look and touch only when I hand it to them. None of my immediate circle are a$$%@*s and if I ever do ( as in workmates or otherwise) I don't invite them to the house at all. Even my aunts who annoyingly at times keep saying "stop collecting, save instead and yadda yadda yadda" tend not to manhandle my toys at all. Guess it all comes down indeed to instilled values, of which I guess those people you've encountered Trev have little to none. Send them the bill, see if they find humour to that :mad::mad:

We have a terms for such individuals - "bastos", "walang modo" :mad:

All my friends understand the value of my collection and don't dare touch anything unless permission is given, but i usually explain with new guest that i have OCD straight of the bat and please don't touch anything and highlight not to touch my TF collection. But yeah, people should respect you and your belongings especially if they're a guest in your home.

When I was in high school I had a friend who'd mess around with my toys, but not in a malicious way -- more in a harmless prank kind of way. Sometimes he'd come over when I wasn't home (to visit my brother), then before he'd leave he'd pop into my room, pick one shelf and then turn around the toys on that shelf so they're facing backwards! :D Oh, then there's Lord_Zed who just picks ONE toy and then does something weird (e.g. mistransforms it) then puts it back... a few days later I notice it. <shakes.fist@Lord.Zed> :p

But yeah... it was weird coming home from school and seeing all my Pretenders facing the wall like they'd just seen the Blair Witch. :D

Luckily for me the vast majority of my friends and family understand not to touch my collection. My wife's bastard cousin and those 3 women from work have been the only exceptions since I started collecting again in my early 20's.

Cat: In regards to my comment of comparing it to me slapping one of their kids or pushing one onto the road, I'm not sure I actually said the road metaphor to them but to someone else when describing the event and how they should understand. I did however when confronting one of the women compare it to me slapping her kid as she has 4 children whom she cherishes but absolutely no objects that she has any sentimental attachments to. She said that comment kinda put it in perspective a little but said she STILL doesn't understand. So an extreme comparison - yes. A stupid comparison - since it was the only thing that got the message at least partially through I disagree. And as for my incandescent rage, it was fulled somewhat by their total lack or remorse and even laughing in my face as if I was making something out of nothing. Their total lack of understanding and making light of a situation which has so obviously hurt me made it hurt more and Trev don't like that, no sir! And my nickname for 18 years has been 'Big Angry Trev' so they should have known what to expect ;) If they had appeared genuinely remorseful my anger would have been mollified somewhat as I don't believe they intended a breakage to happen as you said. In regards to my wife's cousin though - that sod did everything on purpose and may a Sparkeater take his soul! :mad:

Gok: I do have some friends whom will play tricks with my bots but still respect them so much that I trust them, like you described with your mate. If you look at my 'Tranformers & Humans Alike" facebook album you'll find several photos of my best mate Tam waltzing round with my RTS Rodimus in her ample cleavage. Not only do I trust her to not break my toy, but in this case my figure was more than amply cushioned :D And I did have another friend whom used to put my spare G1 Wreck-Garr and Scourge in rather 'intimate' positions with each other which was quite funny (the first couple of times anyway).

Liegeprime: I showed their friend how much a new Soundblaster Statuette would cost on ebay to pass on and get the message through. One of the women then offered me $100 towards a new one but since she has kids and christmas is coming up, along with the fact that I may be able to fix Ratbat's wing (it was a clean break) I told her to keep the money but she has to spend it on Transformers for her sons for Christmas.

Sigh, the whole thing has been a very negative experience. It has put a serious strain on 3 of my friendships and the wife's cousin has never been forgiven at all which is a shame because we used to hang out - but 3 sins from one idiot?! Unforgivable! But at least I can take some solace in the fact I have many more friends who know how to behave, and of course my Ozformers brethren to vent to :) And hopefully the message will get passed around my new community and friends (we moved here 2 years ago) Don't touch Trev's toys - he goes fricken psycho!!!!

Never been in a situation whereby a friend / relative has been in my Transformers room and deliberately damaged or disrespected any part of my collection. I tell anyone that goes in there that I have to accompany them at all times and they have to keep their hands to themselves. If they broke any of my Transformers, I would break them - simple.

You are exactly right. I hate douchebags like that, with the attitude "I don't care about this hobby so clearly it doesn't mean anything to anyone else". The fact that they couldn't even respect your property - whatever items they may have been - is extremely disrespectful.

Man, that buttcrack story is probably the best one, sorry.

When I was younger (in my teenage years and before I sold off my old transformer collection) I had a few friends over my place, who came over multiple times a week. Saw them every day at school and such. Anyway, I went to head to the bathroom for a few minutes only to find most of them had left. I thought nothing of it as it was getting late. The ones who stayed behind, we ended up going out and getting some dinner or something in the lines of that.

Once all was finished up, I got home, went back to my room only to find an enormous amount of things missing and/or broken. Such things as multiple pokemon cards (the old rare charizard which was $40~ at the time etc), star wars figures and mini playsets, random transformers and power ranger things were gone - Even playstation and computer games. And random transformers were broken into parts and pokemon cards completely folded or bent deliberately. Regardless we're talking tens of hundreds of dollars of damage and stolen collectables.

As you can imagine, I was extremely upset, and to know this was my close friends who had done this. So the next day at school I confronted everyone about it, yet none of them would own up to it obviously. Yet I started to notice something about random classmates around me who I never interacted with. They all had things of mine, the 'friends' who had stole them had given out a large portion of them to people for free. So I was seeing all things I use to own randomly around the school grounds.

Now I'm far from the malicious type, but things got a little out of hand on my side of the table that ended up in a couple of the so called friends gathering some of the stuff back and returning it, telling me it was just a playful joke. So by the end of the school day I had a small part of my collectables back. But far from everything that was stolen.

Mainly the large collectables were no where to be seen still. And the rarer pokemon cards etc. So, later on after the school day a random person from a higher year level in school came knocking on my door, with all of my cards back and a few other bits and bobs. He saw how angry and upset I was and went on a mission to get everything he could back. And to top it off, he told me he knew who had the rest of the stuff. Overhearing the people talking about who had hoarded it all at someone's house. He gave me his phone number and said when he finds out for sure he'll let me know.

So a couple of days went by, me losing my friend group and cherished collectables. Until I got a phone call. The person had found out where everything was being hoarded. He told me to come to X persons house to get it back. Anyway when I got there he was standing out front. And no one was home. So needless to say we got inside.., and to my surprise found everything else that was missing. I knew it was mine as well due to, the certain scratches or marks that were on things.

So in the end I got everything back, not in a way I'm proud of though. But at the very least I have nothing missing. Sadly only a fair few broken or ruined things which later on I sold off cheap or threw out. Point of the story, I never let anyone touch my collectables now. Period. I spend to much money, especially now I'm older, to have anything ruined.

This person who helped me out, turned out to be a great, trusting friend who I still know now. They also know to never touch any of my treasured things and vice versa.

It's a shame there are people in the world who just enjoy ruining other peoples days for no reason at all. The perpetrators have never spoken to me since, nor have I seen them in many years.

But regardless, that was many years ago now and I'm a happy boy collecting again :D

Don't know what you did to get back your stuff you are not proud of but to me it sounds like whatever you did it was probably justified. I guess you were dealing with teenagers and me with so-called adults but I still think that your story tops mine. I feel for ya bro, and glad you are a happy collector boy now :)

But that guy in the story was great for helping out. Crappy bunch of friends though.

Just an old story now, thought some of use might enjoy it. I don't mean that in a bad way. Just interesting seeing into other peoples things :D
