Score, thanks for posting.
Those bring back the memories ... ok, not really. But it triggers memories from other stores around the same time.
Totally trippy flashback... :p
I love retro catalogue images like that.
"Gudday"? Is that the Kiwi version of "G'day"? :p
(the image host, when you click on the images to go to the source, doesn't appear to screen out its random inserted advertising, as one of them was certainly not suitable for kiddies...)
(now everyone is going to go and try to find it)
Nice. I really enjoy looking through old catalogues and reminiscing :) Mirage looks especially good next to Blurrr
I like the strategic placement of the toyworld bears left foot. :p
Hehe. Gudday.
Things I noticed was - Omega's price back in 1986 was pretty surprising and obviously Toyworld NZ did their own photography (Blurr facing the wrong way, a couple of slight mistransformations).
I have never before realised the Toyworld bear is completely starkers.
Good to see the old scans, I used to have a small box full catalogues featuring transformers about 20 in total but my mum threw them out....
$110 for Omega Supreme... that seems quite high, especially considering that I paid slightly less than that for my Encore.
Love looking at old toy catalogues
Love seeing old catalogues!
For those who are interested, I believe the exchange rate around that time was 0.75 AUD to 1.00 NZD.
That means in Australian terms:
OMEGA SUPREME = $82.5
1986 Autobot 'DELUXES' = $20.25
I have no idea what minimum wage was like back in 1986 but this woulda been a lot of money back then. Sort of gives you a greater appreciation for the cost of TF's today.
It's amazing what cheap labour, improved mass production technology and reducing manufacturing costs by design can achieve in terms of keeping prices low.
UPDATE: According to some old sources the average wage back in 1986 was $400 a week. However I would like to imagine the cost of living in Australia was proportionally less.
So prices today aren't all that bad. Ho hum.
Using this inflation rate calculator ...
http://www.rba.gov.au/calculator/
$82.5 in 1986 = 194.85 in 2012 .....so like a masterpiece now...
$20.25 = $47.83 .... voy prices
Chiming in with the sentiments others have expressed; it's definitely really cool to see old catalogues from that era, given, I was only 1 at the time but catalogues didn't change too greatly from then to '89-'90. :D
Have you any more or were they the only one's you've come across? :)
